  • Thank you

  • This was 1 of the first songs I ever heard .i let my PAPA hear it and it brought back good memories for him. THANK YOU X

  • had this one for years...love the sax!

  • i've got this on an old 78 rpm disc . . . never thought i'd hear it again.

  • In addition to Wynonie being a great jump boogie performer, he was a very, very handsome guy. Nice to look at.

  • My kind of love song!

  • This is my great grandfather :)

  • @YgoAddict you had a cool and talented great grandfather! can you sing too?

  • @YgoAddict Really, can you rock??

  • heard this driving one night 10+ years ago - looked for it many times using 'like two morello cherries, in a bowl of curdled milk' - just found this and it's great and sounds the same - anyone know if he ever used morello cherries and curdled milk instead of ordinary cherries and buttermilk? - maybe it's just my memory...?

  • Country star Hank Penny wrote and had a country hit with this song in 1950 on King Records. King's owner, Sid Nathan, owning the copyright on the composition, then had Wynone cover the tiune for the R&B market -- also on King. It worked, becoming, in 1951, Harris' second to last hit. Known as "Mr. Blues," Harris rarely recorded any slow, sad songs. He loved uptempo, rockin' party music -- making him the male version of the heroine of another of his hits, "All She Wants To Do Is Rock."

  • Wynonie rocks

  • They oughta do a movie about Wynonie Harris. He truly lived fast, died young and left a good lookin' corpse. He was one wild child.

  • Wynonie didn't volunteer at a womens' shelter.

  • great song

  • beautiful!|

  • Big John Greer doing that soloing tenor sax.

  • So is this Jazz or Blues or Jump Blues or Rhtym and Blues? I'm still learning to tell the difference.

  • @DimensionsofChange I got here from checking out a site timelining rock'n'roll.

  • @Khultan I got here by listening to a Best of Big Bands cassette, that I picked up at Goodwill in Hastings, MI circa 010.

  • @DimensionsofChange This artist has never been mentioned before pre-Internet.

  • This song kicks ass.

  • thought it was Prima too. who came first?

  • Must listen to Richard Thompson;s version. Great song and both excellent interpretations.

  • Killer tune, very Louis Prima...

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • I first heard done by a band in the 70's, called Lucifer. not bad but nothing compared to this take by Wynonie! Love all these fun jiving guys; Louis Prima, the amazing Louis Jordan, Fats Waller. Wonderful, wonderful music. Thanks terracite.

  • @MilSepic60 I have that 45 by Lucifer, are you from around Detroit??

  • @jzzlvrmee

I was raised in Hamilton, left in 73' on a bet that I could find work in Toronto and been here since. I think I bought it in Hamilton. I knew some folks from Windsor and they all had lines in to Detroit, especially one guy who found a blues station from Detroit.

  • @MilSepic60 It's been a while since I've been in Toronto....I'm in Oklahoma now....

  • @jzzlvrmee I am...I would love to get a copy.

  • @GonzoGuyy I got mine on eBay, and if I were set up to post a video, I would post it....

  • wynonie was the man! My uncle gave us his compilation album of the greatest hits!

  • Comment removed

  • The vocals actually sound like Prima's tenor man, Sam Butera- but it is Harris. It was Butera who brought the R&B shuffles to Prima.

  • Wasn't this remade in the 70s with slightly different words? I remember the very end had something like "on the good ship Lollipop, you can have your choice of hash or pot." I think the first verse was completely different. The second verse sound fairly close to me.

  • @GonzoGuyy That remake was done by Lucifer for Invictus Records....

  • @jzzlvrmee Thank you so much for the info...I am tracking down a copy now...

  • used to play this in 'Sheebeens' ( illegal drinking cellers) in England, way back in the day. Ty for this.

  • a massive smash hit in jamaica for about 4 years, I am always amazed hardly anyone ever covers this it would be the ideal tune for a covers band. The old ones are the best. One mike and one take and its in the bag.

  • the old ones are the best - a massive smash hit in jamaica for about 4 years, I am amazed no one does a cover of this song its got everything !

  • Where's his place in the pantheon of R&B singers? The beginning of Rock 'n' Roll, right?

  • Thanks for the feedback,

    Emanuel319

  • Hey Terracite, this sounds like Louis Prima to me. Wynonie Harris has a different sound and backing bands. Let me know whether I am right or wrong.

  • @emanuel319 Hi there, It's definitely Wynonie Harris, from the album, Jackals Rockin' Collection, Track 13. Tag, The Best Of '50's Music.

  • @emanuel319 louis prima? man you got no ears at all.

  • Wow ! Excellent ! One of the funniest songs ever ! Thanks for posting !

  • doesn't anybody rememver the version by Lucifer on the Invictus label in the early 70's?

  • @j50t Yes...I certainly do remember their version. The singer had an oddish voice but the horns were great if memory serves. I would love to find that entire album again...I can't even find anything on it on All Music Guide. You wouldn't happen to have it would you??????

  • @j50t Incidently I surfed to this video looking for Lucifer...it was a light blue album cover that was kind of plain if I remember...please let me know if you have a copy of it...it's kind of the holy grail of pop for me at this point in time :) Cheers
