  • Love this song. ....."Play Misty for me". Nutter alert!!

  • So glad to have found this song, after all these years... I lost the single 20 years ago and could not remember the singer, only found all the slow versions. But I like this one best! Even though its not the original version. Look it up on Wiki....

  • I don't know my right foot from my left the way it is----I don't need to be misty....

  • I thought of this when I heard Kate Bush had a song called Misty on '50 Words For Snow' !

  • Definitely, categorically, Ray Stevens' best song ever and THE best version of this standard by anyone. No one can even come close to this masterpiece. Thank you for this memory from 1975, when times were good, indeed.

  • When does it get to the funny part?

  • @Precipitation Sorry, it doesn't. One of his "serious" songs. Lets face it, Ray could sing the phone book and make it sound good!

  • @BgMsDangerus I was just making a joke :). I used to listen to Ray Stevens a lot in the '80s. I even saw him play live in '87. He did do some serious stuff early in his career, and I don't believe he actually became a full-fledged comedy act until He Thinks He's Ray Stevens came out. I like this song quite a bit. It reminds me of what it felt like to have a crush on someone when I was 12.

  • @Precipitation Thanks for the heads-up. Have a bad case of the covets since you actually got to see him play live. Have you heard his Indian Love Call uploaded by bettyd1954? Its one of his serious songs, the only humor is if you know 50's doowop music. The female backup singers are singing shaloop shaloop. Plus, the photos of different animal couples are gorgeous, especially at 0:21. She looks like she has blue eye shadow on. At least I think she is the she of the two. Happy listening.

  • Photos boring??? I wish my backyard looked like that.

  • Reminds me of a happy childhood - love this!

  • Every single time I listen to this it makes me feel happy! Fun!

  • asian american sing misty more please take a look

  • You done real good Ray, but ya ain't no Johnny Mathis!

  • @TheNWBerry Apples & pears. You might equally have clicked upon Johnny singing Bridget The Midget (I know there's no such version) - & concluded that Johnny's no Ray Stevens! ; )

  • This song is so beautiful -it brings tears to my eyes as it takes me back to when I was 12 years old-looking out the rear window of a 1970 Chevy Impala heading down to Myrtle Beach S.C.with my Mom and Dad and 2 brothers--It's a "good feeling" song---REAL Good

  • My mother named me after this song.

  • Greetings from Dublin. Great song and photos not boring at all!

  • Thanks glad you like it. Ernie.

  • The veiws are lovely, and really suit the song

  • from bradford , but rcognise the scenery , been in australia a hile now , loveley pics

  • Love this song!

  • Look at me, yee-haw!

  • Ray hit #14 in Billboard, 7-12-75. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • @DaveWollenberg This was Ray Stevens' last top 40 pop hit under his own name, he would return to the Top 40 in Feb. 1977 under the name Henhouse Five Plus Two with a clucking chicken sound version of "In The Mood".

  • Man, I wish I had that view in my back yard. All I have is pine trees from the ground up.

  • Wow, great memories, and great photos!! Reminds me of my teenage years. I loved this version. Thank you.

  • Loved this in 1975 & love it now . Great arrangement , great singer & great memories of the 70's , in my opinion the best decade for music . Oh and great photos too , a better view than I have from my garden in London !!

  • Such a good job of singing. He can sing anything. Love it all.

  • Ray Stevens won a Grammy for this arrangement. I love it!

  • As a OTR truck driver and waking up many times in the Great Smokies...this song makes me want to " Buck Dance " to breakfast !

  • got to agree.

  • He just too Misty and turned it inside out, and wow, what a version!

  • Makes sense for this song to be upbeat.Being in love makes you feel that way.

  • I've never heard this version of Misty. Very nice. My grandmother had an old record (LP) of Ray Stevens. Awesome cover!

  • This is, quite honestly, my favorite song.

  • Great singer, perfect song, and wow amazing view!

  • I love this! It's so different! Never would have expected Misty to sound like this...

  • i love both Johnny Mathis and Ray Stevens version....:)

  • i was listening to the Johnny Mathis version and then i realised that this is another version of Misty . I love it.

  • I love this song by Ray Stevens!

  • Que versão! Foi a primeira música country que ouvi, lá nos velho tempos da adolescencia. Boas lembranças!

  • This is such a great summer version by Ray....love this too.....xxx

  • what a beautiful sight. even though i may never see it in real life. i can say i saw it in a pic. thanks.

  • Absolutley brilliant song 11/10, great post and great pictures, I always go for a drive out that way with my daughter, it's nice out that way above the M62 (from Leeds). Thanks for posting.

  • this is one of ray steven's more serious songs showing he can do more than just comedy songs

  • @tikibird1970 I agree, I love this song and The Streak!!

  • I love this song - always have - reminds me of my childhood in the 70's when life was simple

  • Ray is the best!!

    ----------Ellen

  • This has always been one of my top five... the arrangement, the sound... wonderful...

  • I love "Misty" by Ray and a nice patch of planet earth the poster owns in the UK!

  • any one have the other two versions? that is my request for anyone

  • nice version! love it!

  • I heard this on BBC Radio 2 the other day and when it started and I realised what the song was, I thought, "Oh, he shouldn't have done this." But as it went on I liked it more. Musically interesting - my congratulations to whomever arranged it.

  • Hit #3 country, #14 pop in Billboard. How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg No 2 in 1975

  • @DaveWollenberg It reached no 2 in the UK singles charts in 1975

  • great sliding geetar!

  • tune. end of

  • Yeeeeeeehaaa dag nabbit musky

  • This song was actually an accident. They were in the studio rehearsing for an upcoming show and decided to take a break. They were playing around with this song, not intending to record it or make fun of it. But it started sounding good, so they recorded it. Took two takes and it won a Grammy.

  • Funny, that this the version I first heard on the radio, of this great song. Once I heard Johny Mathis, obviously the classic rendition, I appreciated the song itself. But Steven's is the one I look for, because it's such a fun version.

Reminds me of top 40 radio, in the '70's, when, as a youngster, I made no distinction between a Ray Stevens, or a Chi Lites, Spinners, or even Captain and Tennile.

Just all fantastic music, all on the same radio station.

  • Ditto, great comment!

  • @ecpizza - Me too !

  • your photos are just fine. thank you.

  • GREAT SONG..trying to learn it on banjo at the moment..NOT EASY!! great photo,s

  • WOW! He's not a threat to JM but he has sure done a great cover, one of the best I have heard.

  • I agree.

  • I'm thinking of putting a ii-V C#min7 F#13 in there, but the 13 might be a little much for the country version, I'm trying to do... I'll figure it out though. sorry if I'm rambling, I've had a bunch of coffee haha

  • this version has alwaysw amazed me. I'm learning the chords right now... and of course... JUST LIKE JINGLE BELL ROCK the internet's not much help because most of them are just reposts of the wrong chords some dumbass typed in several years back. But I've found one that's really close, and my ear keeps getting better. there's still ONE PART that's baffling me. "...how hopelessly I'm lost" the site says it's a Bm7 but I know it's not. Either C#min7 or F#min7.

  • Thank you for posting this wonderful old song.

    --------Ellen

  • Great song!

Love it and the view! Thank you.

  • My summer holiday with friends- riding a parasolled tandom. Lovely memories thankyou.

  • I have loved Ray Stevens since the 70's. I only went to the fair in Knoxville because he was playing and that was the only place I could see him. I would have payed whatever to be at his concert. Thank you so much, Ray, for being out there for your fans. I am so happy you are here on YouTube to let other people see what a great talent you truly are.

  • Great rendition! Thank you for posting.

  • wow, what a neat version of this song. I love it.

  • Ray Stevens was the king of novelty songs, but his non-comedy musical output was varied, with this amazing cover of this and Indian Love Call, and gospel songs like Everything Is Beautiful and Turn Your Radio On.

  • Awesome........love the back garden............it suited the song, MISTY...........Surely Stevens best? Well it 's a timeless classic. Makes all us non country fans think again........well for a minute anyway! Thanks again for the great post.

  • Thanks for posting this...big Ray Stevens fan here...love his funny songs too but the words to this one are sweet and cool

  • Great job!!!..I love this version. Nothing worse than a music snob!.. :) Well maybe a cat hater !! lol

  • All those jazz snobs make me laugh. They even give George Benson a hard time...WTF?

    This version is awesome!

  • this is the best song of all time

  • I think I would be pretty accurate going by the comments I read that there's quite a lot of people out there who are like myself Misty Eyed when hearing this great song thinking about their happy carefree teenage years, you just don't hear much class like this anymore.

  • Brought a lot of happy memories back, when I was a teenager without a care in the world.

  • Thanks for this, felliered! My favorite Ray Stevens song! A perfect example of taking an old standard and remaking it (better, in my opinion). His vocals are awesome and the instruments are sublime. Good stuff!

  • this song fills me with happiness! love it!!

  • he has a heart good work

  • I read somewhere that although this CW version of Misty never got huge in the States the English were mad about it and it made No.1 in the UK pop charts for three weeks! Maybe the US fans were jaded at the time, but this song just puts you in a great mood and the Brits gave ol' Ray his due for this joyful arrangement of Misty.

  • Us Canadians had an awesome time with this song too.

  • I love this song even though I`m really not a fan of country music ! I guess it simply brings nice memories back ...

  • It's funny...I was brought up around country music. I really could never stand this music because it is all I heard from my parents. AM Country radio in Buffalo, NY area in the seventies. Then for some reason as I am shaving this song pops in my mind. Maybe it's a sign. Anyhow, I just had to listen. BTW, the pictures you put in are great.

  • been awhile since i've heard this song..still sounds great.. peaked at #14 , summer of 1975, according to Joel Whitburn's Top 40 Hits book

  • brings back so many memories for me ... great song.

  • This version came about while Ray and the band were goofing off in the studio. The producer convinced them to record it and they won a grammy that year for best arrangement.

  • west sussex loves him too
