NO....WAY! I've been hooping for a while now and had completely accepted that this was not a move I would ever accomplish. Saw this tutorial and now i can do it (ok one in 10 times, but thats better than not at all). Im so pleased, thank you so much! Im gonna go practice this one some more!
Thank you, SaFire! I have only had a hoop for four days but your tutorials are so helpful and within three minutes of trying this waist-to-neck technique as you described it, I could do it! It's a miracle! Still have new trick face but that'll go away soon enough, I'm sure.
whenever the hoop gets to my chest I experience some pain in the sides of my lower belly (near my kidneys).. is this just muscle cramps/pain or should I worry?
I just got this down - thanks to your video!!! It really helped me to try this with a child's light weight hoop first & in a bra so the hoop can grip to your skin.
SaFire, I love all your tutorials, but this one is awesome :D I was always wondering how to shimmy the hoop up without using my hands (I succeeded a few times, but by pure luck), and when I tried your method, it worked instantly. Thank you!! :)
I loved your comment about the "new hoop trick face", and it really made me laugh out loud. I have been conscious of removing that look from my face when I practice! hehe
I have a really hard time keeping my hoop up once i get my arms in. No matter how tight I keep them to my body, the hoop seems to recognize that I'm no longer a circle... Then it just kind of flops around and hits the floor! Any tips?
@bluekittysk8er You have to kind of duck your boobs under when it gets to just below them or get a great sports bra to practice with, I'm a D also Coraleeena has a great tutorial for this, Hope you get it!!!
@bluekittysk8er you probably figured this trick out by now but for the benefit of those reading...visualize if you can: the hoop has made it up to the valley of the rib cage and you need to get it over the mountains, your moving as if you are chest hooping, on a back push dip your front in a bit and the hoop will move up. it's a very small and subtle movement. it happens with a back push that is more powerful than your usual back push. as a fellow buxom gal i understand the frustration. HTH :)
I'm 5'5" and about 117lbs. I have a 43" hoop and it kinda looks ridiculous when I hoop because it is so much larger than I am. Do you have any suggestions? I think I should be using a 39". Can ya halp?! O__0
I always recommend having multiple hoop sizes and weights because core moves are usually easier with a larger hoop while small hoops are great for off body moves. Overtime you'll settle on a hoop size and then fluctuate less.
@baka15kun When I started hooping I got the 43 inch hoop, and I ended up taking it apart again and cutting it down to about 39 inches lol. Ironically enough I'm about 5'5" and 115lbs. Lol! So yeah. I noticed hooping was a lot easier once I cut the little bit off. :) Are you just starting?
Was able to do it randomly while practicing, of course when I was wasn't thinking to much about it. I did it the first time while watching, it helped so much! Thank you for posting! :)
The reason I love watching you videos so much is that you look like you are having so much fun when you're doing it. It makes me want to smile when I'm Hooping! Thanks so much!
Me too. As soon as I roll my chest the hoop spirals down. Its not falling or anything, just spiraling downward like thats whats supposed to happen or something. :(
Try this one by dropping your body lower each time the hoop comes around. It isn't really the same as bringing it up, but will give you a stepping stone to work with.
*humph* I still can't do it! I'd love to get it past the chest, hands pressed together pointed straight in the air and get it up to the hand to do hand-hooping as well. First step: getting it up to the damn chest. :P
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just got this one for the first time. I also hooped at the chest a couple times..granted it was quite brief but I know I'll improve!
Hope to meet & hoop with you at Burning Man next year if you go!
Absolutely I'll see you there. This year I'm gonna try to get a hoop workshop in the booklet so look out for it and I'll have a video up sooner for when/where it will be.
why can I do this trick after 5 mins, but cannot, just cannot do the shimmy trick!!!!!!!!!! So annoying. I just cant hoop around the chest with my arms down!!! Its annoying. Thanks for the tricks your great.
I just wanted to make a pointer that might help somebody else out here. At first I would do the wiggle and sometimes it'd work and sometimes not. One thing I noticed that worked all the time was when the hoop was touching my stomache in front, I'd start the big waist motion from the back. That kicked it up to the chest area very quickly every time and from there just arch your back and chest to keep it up.
Yeah Baby!!! I've been "workin' the wiggle" but forgot about the big hip swoops. Thanks for helping me get it all together. (my Smaller chest size comes in handy ;)
I'm glad you asked! Sorry that I didn't mention it.
As the hoop comes up your stomach and is just under your breasts, give an extra and more forceful popping motion that is angled upwards to help the hoop "jump" over yourself.
I've heard a lot of people call it the "beam it up." I'll do the up motion in both the harder and easier versions, then make a separate video for putting the hoop back on the waist.
Thanks hun! Doing that trick backwards feels REAL awkward for me so I figured I was making a face a struggle (You should see my poi faces... hilarious!) If it wasn't for the request of a tutorial for this trick, I don't think I ever would have tried dong this one backwards.

Let me guess. Just under your rib cage?
You'll have to transition into chest hooping at that point.
To practice the transition, you can also drop your body down a bit to bring the hoop that last way up.

I have another request to add to your list.
Float up? Some persons really have a hard time understanding the grip change. I can't figure out a way to explain in a way that makes sense.
Oh and I don't know if you call is float up, but its basically just taking the hoop from your waist into your hand over you head.
Thanks again!
