Do you have any advice/tips as to working for MAC? I've tried sending in an application either twice or three times, and have never gotten a call back :(
where can i purchase a professional make up portfolio, and can you suggest a great foundation pallette for me to carry to shoots good for all skin tones?
ok correction, there is a difference between cosmo school and makeup school. If you want to be a makeup artist why would you go to cosmo school for hair.GUYS THERE ARE MAKEUP SCHOOLS TO WHERE YOU CAN GET YOUR LICENSE. tHIS IS FOR ENKORE
Koren, I watch your video's all the time, they are so interesting, and they teach me a lot. i LOVE to play with make up. But this really surprised me, because here, there is a school and its three months of schooling, all make up and you come out a completely lincensed make up artist.
Buttt Thank you SO much for sharing all these videos they help a lot
Make sure you take atleast 1 course for make up classes. Try doing freelances and getting youre name out there. theres plenty of ways, but i dont think enkore is going to bother to answer any of us. ;]
Love Love Love! I really want to be a makeup artist but I was soooo unsure about to go about it. It was stressing me because I wanted to start school but didn't know if cosmetology school or aesthetics school was the better option. Thanks for making everything a bit more clear :) Your amazing!
I love your videos! Thank you so much for the advice. I am starting Paul Mitchell school in April and they cover 1200 hours, 100 hours of which cover makeup. I am so excited. Can't wait to watch your new videos!
Oh if you have time, please have a seminar Jacksonville, FL or Orlando, FL. I will definitely attend! :)
Thanks for this, so much. I'm just getting started back from a long mommy hiatus, doing makeup for weddings/ fashion shows etc. These tips are very useful to me! Again, thanks. :)
hey i jus want to post a comment replay to everyone else..i live in nj and have my cosmo lincee its a 1000 hours but u can do anything wit that makeup hair nails skin etc. as far as jus doin makeup i would say take the esthicins program its alot less hours and makeup is a huge part of it they also have jus makeup schools and classes all u have to do is research it..its not hard! hope this helped!
Do you have to buy every shade of foundation in the world when your a makeup artist. Because of all the different skin types there are in the world. And what do you do when you do someone and you dont have their makeup shade.
thank you! that was my primo question! i was wondering if you broke the bank to buy every color of foundashy. also: how do you know if poeple are cool or warm toned? i thought about going to beauty school but i heard they don't even teach much about makeup... and i already know a lot and i believe experience is the best teacher...
first thats why i will not go to beauty school and only makeup school but than i dont think i would get my full hours cause the school in hollywood is only 3 months long for makeup, thats not fair why would you go to a beauty school when it doesnt teach you enough about makeup and then have to take another school and that will cost a fortune
I'm 4mths from graduation, its not a makeup only course, but its Esthetics, so makeup is a MAIN segment. The best is this school teaches the advanced stuff you have to pay tons for at workshops (i.e. eyelash extentions, theatrical makeup (including latex, silicone, and gelatin work), airbrush technique, in addition to skincare (super important for an artist) hair removal, body wraps, microdermabrasion and chemical peels....but NO HAIR!! If you are an aspiring artist, try an Esthetics license :)
Hey all you aspiring makeup artist.. if you want to know about a great and affordable makeup ONLY school send me a message and I'll let you know all about it. I have tried to post this message numerous times but for some reason it isnt working... contact me I am an alumni
I went for about... 4 months. I hated it. Why do you think theres so many drop outs?
Its not really what you expect. You'll pretty mych learn perms haircuts fingerwaves wetsets haircolor and all that stuff but NOTHING about make up which was what I wasnted to learn about. Good luck.

Just a footnote for those viewing and reading. In lieu of the 1600 hr cosmetology course which does take 2 yrs and mainly deals with hair. You can opt for esthetics which is in depth skin care and facial treatments and offers generally 30 hrs makeup training. This course is usually 600-750 hrs (depending on state). I completed the course within 10 months.
How can you learn more about makeup then? After the 1600 hrs for comso, is there any way I can take more classes on makeup? Thanks for this helpful vid!
there ar eloads of never-ending classes to take. Even now, I still attend classes and workshops and such from where ever there is available. The 1600 hours is mandatory by most state to complete to get lecensed.
Ugh! Hair... LOL! I didn't think so many hours were for hair and not make-up! Anyway, I guess it just makes people more rounded in the industry. It's good, b/c if you ever get a client who wants their hair done, you can suggest what make-up can go great w/ the 'do. And that can definitely open a door for more business & clientele. Love your videos, keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congradulations on making youtube partner! It means that you get a video that auto plays on ur channel and you get a advertising banner as well, and you will have ads pop up on your videos too, like a banner, also it's an elite group of youtubers.

i was just wondering. if someone works at mac as a makeup artist, how much would they get paid? because somebody told me that they get paid $100 per hour. and this other person told me it was $50 per hour. i'm so confused.
hi Cookie - I have a number of makeup artist friends who works at/for MAC either as regular or freelance, and no one MAKES that much per hour. Im not sure about the SENIOR Artists - I assume they might be on Salary, but in-store artists can range (I believe) $16 - $25 per hour depending on what State/Location, and whether you're a regular employee or a freelancer.
Hi just I'm intrested in taking cosmetology but I dunno what school to go to. Theres one that cost about 1,014 and another that cost 16,000 whats the diffrence won't they both teach me the same things??
hey Ray - each school varies basing on reputation and what they have in their curiculum. And yes different schools have different stuff to teach, but all come down to just teaching the basics first. Ask around which school is best in your area, the more reputatble it is, the better it will look in your Resume.
hey cosmojes - missed this question, sorry for late response. Schooling is only required if you want to be licensed. A lot of freelance artists doesnt need to be licensed in some states and therefore doesnt need to go thu schooling. Certain companies will not hire non-licensed MUAS, and Salons and Spas are manadtory for their artists to be licensed. SO it depends on where you want to go with makeup.
Hey just a quick question which do you think is a better program to be in (I want to be a make up artist) cosmotology or estetician?? Did you go to cosmotology school??
Yes I went to Cosmo school, as my state requires Cosmo license to practice specially if I want to do hair and makeup. Estets mostly cover skincare. But like I mentioned in this vid, both only covers very few hours on makeup.
you dont have to take up cosomtology in school..if you have ot get a liscence in your state..you could get an estitician lisence..that focuses on skincare, makup, waxing..everything really that a makeup artist would need to know plus a little extra like massages and facials.
i think you misunderstoond, i was saying that if you have to get a liscence you could get an estitician liscence you dont HAVE to get a cosmotology lisence. and i suggested that bceause unlike cosmotology whish focuses mainly on hair, estetics focuses on the care of the skin and all the other things you would need to know as a makeup artist.
hi, this may be sound kind of a dumb question, but i found at michels (the craft store) loose pigments, they are "pear ex powder pigment" and they are non-toxic dose that mean i can wear it on my eyes? or am i crazy? thanks i hope you can respond..... also you are amazing!
hey frogy - NO those are not tested for cosmetic skin purposes, not to mention optalmologist approved so it can be harful in the eye area. I wouldnt use it even though it says non toxic. You can get skin irritations from it.
thank you! you are so funny and talented, i work for MAC cosmetics and i cant stop playing with other brands! i remember you said that some of the artist at the mac counter can be stingy (your face chart tutorial video) if you are ever in portland stop on by.... i will give u a bunch!
let me tell you......you are amazing, thank you for your tips, your the best. I have a question, my eyeshadow creases in toward the inner coner, i us udpp, it works ok , I get a lot of black goopy things in the inner conner of my eyes....any tips?
ah - that means you have oily lids and its causing the shadow to collect in your inner corner. After applying UDPP, just set it with powder first, but press it on to the udpp, so that it seals the oils your lids produce. Then apply your shadow. Try that.
i'm getting kind of annoyed here. why are so many positive comments getting thumbs down ratings? sorry to post this on your channel koren but i've just watched a ton of videos where nice comments are getting the thumbs down. i really think there are some douche bags out there with nothing better to do than use their mouse as a surge of power. ugh.
Here, you can really tell that the cosmo school barely covers make-up. Their practices would appaul you Koren. I watched a MA use a reg. mascara wand (the one that comes with it) on someone, and another had no clue what primer was (this is Guam and you really need it). Personally I think they should make a school specifically for MA's.
No way jose! on the mascara thing. I know better lol, especially after watching all your videos. The MA's here should spend some time on Youtube (your channel =P) lol they could learn a few things.
thanks for the great info!! I have been offered a job as a MA by my friend but I dont have any experience other than doing my own make up lol he knows, and says his wife can train me for the rest so we'll see
i love your little intro. i'm a makeup artist. well, i work at mac but that counts too, right? LOL. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Create a portfolio, work on people, hand out cards. Word of mouth is the best publicity one can have. Also, one suggestion-unless you are looking to work at a salon or spa, I'm against beauty school. Waste of money if you're truly talented. But that's just my 2 cents. Practice, practice, practice!! Thanks for the video Koren. Much love. <3333 Violet
Hey Koren!I love all ur videos,u rock!I'm getting married in the summer and plan to do my own makeup. Can u plz give me some advice on bridal makeup as to what type of products to use,do's and dont's etc.I would really appreciate that xx
hi Miz - if you are planning a mediumsize wedding. I would really advise to ask or hire someone to do your makeup. BIG mistake most brides-to-be make is planning to do their own. And, when the day comes, its too crazy that their minds are pretty scattered worrying if everything is in place. Then the little time there is, is spent on trying to get their makeup done themselves. Where it comes down to, one less worry, and your makeup will look better in pictures and videos for years to come.
Great video!I'm in esthetics and we cover a minimum amount of hours on makeup (or barely any I should say). Fortunetely, we get some clients that come in our school who wants makeup done, so there is that practice. Esthetics course is only 750 hours, so I really want to go more thorough makeup courses when I'm done.
Great advise....I went to scholl and you are right we didn't get much training on makeup. I love the end of the video.....we have about this much snow right now too... :-)
Koren, Thank you so much for making your videos! They are so helpful and informative! My mom and I love watching your videos! I thought you had a video on hot to apply mineral powder foundation? My mom has a kit but does not use it because she doesnt know how to apply it.

Personally I think they should make a school specifically for MA's.
Thank you so very much for all your tips!

hafadai Vix - now I hope you dont let them do that to you. yeah primers, in the south pacific HELPS a ton.

Hafa! :)
No way jose! on the mascara thing. I know better lol, especially after watching all your videos. The MA's here should spend some time on Youtube (your channel =P) lol they could learn a few things.

i love your little intro. i'm a makeup artist. well, i work at mac but that counts too, right?

Can u plz give me some advice on bridal makeup as to what type of products to use,do's and dont's etc.I would really appreciate that xx
mizhypnotic 4 years ago
hi Miz - if you are planning a mediumsize wedding.

I totally agree with this. I didn't do my own MU, but didn't think that it would have been a big deal to do so.
It was a gift, along with massage and manicure for a bridal shower, and it was definitely remembered for a long time to come!
It's one less worry on the big day and I got to spend some time with the MUA a week or so before and look at looks, talk, etc.
Koren is right! Don't plan on doing your own or having an untrained person do it, MU for photography is different too!
