I wouldnt worry about using light guage strings on one of these, the P pickup has plenty of low end grunt. These are D'addario ProSteel 40's - although im not sure I'd recommend them as Theyve been on 2 weeks now and they're dead! I'd recommend Elixirs for longevity and tone :)
@MrMythste a trick i use to get more life out of a set of dead strings is boil them for about 20 min. they wont sound new but it will bring some life back into them.
@SilentPrayingmanTis Ohh those where the days! I used to do that before I started using Elixirs. I found that the life halved more or less everytime I boiled them. I don't think I sweat more than the average bass player but uncoated strings really don't last long with me!
@MrMythste But isn't it true that Elixir strings have a nano web coating? I've heard that when your hands start to sweat a lot, that coating comes off and you get these little bits of coating going everywhere on your fingers and fretboard...
@delitemyheart from my experience with Elixirs yes, that is true but not to the extent that you mention. The coating started to come off after about 8 months for me on all occasions I've used them and even then it hasnt left the strings, let alone transferred to my fingers. I'm sure after a good few years the coating would be an issue but the string itself will be long dead before then!
Great review! Thanks. I might just get a bass like this.
What kinda of D'addario strings do you have there, and what gauge? I'm thinking of getting D'addario EXL 40-100. I'm not sure if it will be too light.

I just got a BB424x and I want to change the strings. Which string length did you get super long or long because of the string through.
