Remember that the Hasbro DVD shows them in the order they originally aired, not in the chronological story order. In chronological order, the two parts that make up "Dinobot Island" are actually episodes 30 and 31, meaning that Autobots like Powerglide and Beach Comber have already appeared in one episode in the chronological episode order (though how Powerglide appeared out of nowhere late in the episode "A Prime Problem" is a complete mystery).

@kev0897 This is what sucked about G1- as awesome as the idea of transforming robots fighting a civil war on Earth was, this series hardly had a plot and only some character development. It was fun to watch as a brainless kid, but seeing it again makes me scratch my head why the writing couldn't have been better.

I guess the priority was making essentially an animated commercial for the toys, and it worked!
