I've got an Army Woodland Camouflage modular sleep system. It's got a goretex bivy cover, 30 degree patrol bag, and a minus 10 degree cold weather bag. It's heavy at 10 lbs and bulky, but it's supposed to be good down to -50.
Tests show that when your sleeping, up to 75 percent of heat loss is downward and only 25 percent up through the top of your sleeping bag. So, it is imperative you use a good quality pad under your bedroll. While in my sleeping bag, I sleep in my underwear only, nothing else. I have never been cold. It is your body heat that warms the air and the air is the insulator.
ive got a 'german sniper' sleeping bag, fully waterproof outer skin. unzips to transform into a coat, because it has sleeves. and folds away into its own hood so you cant lose its carry bag
The thing that concerns me about Down is getting it wet. i keep hearing that if I get a down bad wet it's virtually useless and I might as well throw it away. Is this true???

try to dry a down bag with a nylon style shell near a fire after it gets wet after a hike into camp in a rain storm.
