  • THIS IS EYEWITNESS NEWS AT 6... nice.. succinct right to the point

  • "This Is Eyewitness News at 6". Pretty much needs that and that's it. Other than that, it's not a big deal. I don't get the big deal about being "big market". Just look good enough to be on TV and get the news in a tightly bundled package.

  • Well, now I see New York lost its title for "big market" quality newscasts. Sad to say the least. You can have "big market" quality packaging and still be to the point in my opinion.

Even if they cut on the packaging, the news quality will still be just as cheap like the new NG cuts or the cheap graphics. Local news peaked more than a decade ago. Now they are on their last stand, hate to admit it.

  • Nice seamless transition into the 6. No nonsense, no clutter, no honestly pointless announcer VO. I like it. The music choice was very smart, as it's not only attention-grabbing but also pretty difficult to ignore.

  • i don't like it. at least now they have a new theme song but my problem is that it does not have the fit for wabc's broadcasts as the old music package did; just like how wnbc's current music package is compared to its past. and having no announcer is not good at all, i remember everyone in san francisco complaining when kntv removed its announcer in the openings in its current 2008 package with wnbc's 2003 music.

  • Yeah Talent Opens are no longer gonna occur and WABC is currently the only station in this DMA that features talent opens, and it will likely be the last, as the new direction is to get as much news in as possible by maximizing time. That means gaining an extra 30 seconds by removing the talent open. For those who mentioned the music change, its something that will occur over a slow time frame, its not gonna all be done overnight. The voiceovers by Charlie Van Dyke have yet to be recorded..

  • now that i'm back to this video, i saw the 11:00 pm segment and the opening theme was the theme before so i don't think it changed. it may have been a one time thing or probably because it was due to the snow storm we got today that they decided to do a "breaking news" sort of type thing.

  • @DrSurprise no this is not a 1 time thing..theyve been doing it since last week..

  • @weatherpro93

well why is the 11:00 pm segment still use the old theme?

  • @DrSurprise

They are slowly making the change. Its not something thats happening overnight..

  • Just when we thought WNBC was out of its mind for removing the "New York feel" out of its studio, graphics, website, and anchors (going to a cable-like set and plain graphics compared to the old) WABC does this. I'd have to say I don't like what's happening to the flagship stations.

  • WCBS isn't what it used to be ether, I consider it like an affiliate like station in the biggest market.

  • this sounds better but the typewriter sound was getting outdated..wabc still the best either way

  • this song sounds horrible! why did they have to change the old song? i liked it! i'm not a WABC fan but i believe the old song was great! and this theme doesn't even sound like the original beat the other themes have had, even since the 70s!

  • I completely agree with you

  • true WABC should have an announcer (Bill Ranther), and have a talent rejoin, or talent bumper like other stations do (examples: WXXA, WNYT, WJCL/WTGS, WLS @ 10PM)

  • They got C. Van Dyke. And they're gradually starting to de-emphasize the talent opens.

  • what i mean is: the talent open isn't needed, but it is a great idea to have a talent slide for rejoins or going to commercial break after the 1st 10minutes (like the stations listed previously)

  • True, although barely anybody [those stations exceptions] does that anymore. They sure as hell don't do it here now. WFTV got rid of them a few weeks after going HD, WOFL never had any, and WKMG hasn't had em for years. Like, after they turned to NewsCenter 6. WESH 2 was the only one that still had theirs, before they went "Local. Live. Latebreaking." every open and rejoin.

  • also true. some stations don't need it, but others do to "fill in the gap". to add to your long paragraph, KYW never had 1, WBBM got rid of theirs when they got rid of the old graphics, plus Fox 13 utah, WNYW, KTTV, KSAZ, WCBS, KCBS/KCAL, WNBC, WTEN, KNXV,and KGO currently don't have 1 either.

  • so are all those anchors on the same set?...

  • @anchorman87 yup

  • intriguing. The De-series4-ing continues.

  • not sure if this is the new EWN/NG news package, but if this is then there is a Chris Gari monopoly of the local Big 3 stations.
