@TonyMeersmans for mud and dirt, you want to do a gentle, prelim wash down/rinse with water.. to get rid of grains of dirt, gravel, etc that will scratch away at the reflective finish. do this by hand in a bath tub. after that, just do a normal wash to get rid of the odour, oils and smaller bits of dirt that are embedded.
the biggest problem i have so far are white, water stains that i havent figured out how to get rid of. it hasnt affectted the reflectivity too much (yet)
@TheExecutioner73 its uninsulated, you have to bring your own base and midlayers. it does protect against wind very well though; its cut below the hip for extra protection. the neck cuff is very short, so it offers no wind protection up there.. when its really cold, you will need a balaclava.
i did 22km yesterday, -2C, light wind, a bit over 2hrs, 2 merino midlayer. i had the hood off for the first 1 hr and only start feeling cold the last 15 min. i hope it gets colder!
I just got it this week and this was my first run with it so I haven't washed it yet, will wash it soon tho. How are you washing the jacket? Don't want to ruin it haha, and after washing it has the reflectivity for the jacket lessened?
@The564928 i rinse it out in hot water in my bathtub after every run, after about 4-5 runs i wash it out with normal wash detergent (by hand in a bathtub). i hang dry in either case (it dries very fast). ive had it for over a month and maybe 10-12 runs.. it seems to be holding out pretty good. but, if anything major happens i would just post another video.
@JogBird If its not too much of work you think you could make of video of how you're washing the jacket, i'm afraid i'll do something wrong if i wash it by hand.
@The564928 dont worry about damaging it. the tag on the jacket even says you can use a washing machine, im just extra careful because i keep my stuff for many years (i have a pair of running tights that are over 9 years old). just use what ever laundry detergent you have and make sure to rinse well. you also dont have to wash it (w/ detergent) after every run since its an outer layer and wont start smelling as quickly as base layers.. just rinse it out instead.
After using the jacket on a run, i saw there were some smudges on the jacket, do not how they got there where i was just running, have any idea what happened?
@The564928 the only thing i notice are water residue stains when i wash it and hang dry. no biggie. other than that nothing else. have you tried washing it??
I fell in love with this jacket on a recent trip to the Nike store. I just about passed out when they rung it up, though. $350 is a huge con. Definitely seems overpriced for a lightweight jacket.
@PoweredBySteam i was with a friend when i picked up the jacket and she said the same thing and could not comprehend spending that much money for a jacket just for night running. then we went over to the apple store and she picked up an ipad and accessories for over $700.. now, THAT is what i would consider overpriced and expensive. the novelty is gonna wear off and once ipad3 comes out, shes gonna "need" that as well. its all about your priorities i guess. thanks for commenting.
Hello Jogbird,
Thank you for your excellent review.
Just bought one but what scares me is that people say it is pretty hard to keep it clean.
How can I best wash mud stains out when they appear please ?
Thanks
