As a Nixon draftee in 1970, my friends told me "I was going to die" as a skinny guy in Army Basic Training. So I enrolled in the Outward Bound - Minnesota Boundary Waters expedition. After hauling 50-lb sacks, plus canoe, plus personals, over 45 degree slippery slopes and rocks, for an entire month, I found Army Basic Training to be a breeze. As a veteran SGT in an Air Cavalry unit in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, I applaud these opportunities that are provided to our newer generations.
