  • Heard this today on local radio - and damn I thought it was a new track - it's still totally fresh today. AMAZING.

  • Huh? Sucker......Get Funky!

  • I wish I could write a song this catchy.

  • man, i had the BIGGEST CRUSH with this woman in 89, actually still do, LOL XD

  • yes! first femal "rap" :-) good memories. was and 12' maxi single. good old times.

  • This is the jam of all jams. It's perfect even today, the synths, her awesome vocals... everything! I played the hell out of this in 89 and i'm still in love with it.

  • I think I played this song 20x yesterday. Is that bad?

  • such a hot track. man, i feel old.

  • Oh gosh, I remember this jam and I had door knocker earrings just like that!!! Love it!

  • best song to rollerskate to old school

  • YUH NAH AH MEAN?

  • i was 5...and i was dancing on it...

  • That synth line blows my mind

  • OMG I had no idea Neneh was the half-sister of the guy from the 90s band, ''Eagle Eye Cherry''!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to ADORE this song when I was a little girl. I thought I was such a baddass when I sang it, lol!

  • For those of you out there who understand music theory, can you please help?

This track is laid out as follows:

    Verse: 0:13

    Chorus: 0:40

    Second Verse: 1:20

    Second Chorus: 1:38

    Middle 8/Bridge: 2:10

    Third Chorus: 2:54

Ok, can someone please tell me what occurs at 3:15, is this an extension of the middle 8/bridge or is it called something else? I really like this part of the track, especially the single, music-only, version, which differs slightly from the video version.

  • @TheSecondFoundation

You could consider it a second bridge. Some might call it a break or a breakdown. It is similar, musically, to the rest of the composition, but exists to present a different idea.

  • I remember when I was little she performed on MTV, and she was 6-7 months pregnant at the time. People threw a fit about that for some stupid reason.

  • @HailDarkened Yeah what was all the fuss about? She was on Top Of The Pops around the same time wearing a mini-dress with the a hole cut in the front for her bump. She looked awesome but there was up-roar. Why is being pregnant perceived as offensive by some people?

  • I used to be IN LOVE with this woman.......

  • She loved you too, she told me last year but your love was impossible.

  • Instant mood lifter. One of my faves.

  • LOVE the 80`s & 90`s ...

Soo glad I was born in `74

  • so 6 by 80s and 16 by 90s sweet i wish i was born at that time but sadly im only 16

  • its not sadly,

theres enough stuff to explore through aigh??

Music is forever Young, and will make us younger too!

Its My medicine, together with Eternally Love..

    Thankya

  • Correction - Don Cherry is her step-father. Her father was from Sierra Leone and she was born in Sweden, grew up in England then moved to New York as a pre-teen, accent intact.

  • She didn't do to much growing up in England if she came to NY as a "pre-teen".

Always thought she was from England too but maybe just over some time developed a Tri-state Northeast coast dialect like mostly heard on this trak. She looks Puerto Rican. ... But all that aside, this is forever a dope dance club hit. ... Nice to see the video years later ! : )

  • Well to put all doubts to the side about where she is from I can tell u she is from sweden and her real name is Marianne Carlsson. And yes her fathers name is Cherry and he is from the US:

  • Used to have this tape, right after it came out. Played the hell out of it! Memories for sure. hehe

  • When this was at its peak in popularity I would dance to this with my kids and their neighborhood clique during our summer night block parties. I laugh as I recall myself actually dancing..."so DON'T ya get fesh with me..." LOL.... crazy memories!

  • PS I don't care if this is twenty years old, it's still one of the best videos EVER.

  • Someday, just for FUN, I gotta get one of those big-ass dollar sign necklaces!

    I'm 43, it's not whack, kids : )

  • i agree. sexy as hell...

  • she was HOT!!!

  • so the "dj" in this is mushroom from massive attack?

  • Indeed it is; she was in the Wild Bunch before Massive Attack formed...

  • God I love this song!

  • Perfect, This Cold

No Money Man, Can win My love!!

    Thats that shit right there

  • Call me slow but I didn't realize she was British. I didn't recognize the accent til now.

  • shes not british, shes half african, half sweedish

  • @galinthias

her album raw like sushi was a huge album in the Uk prob one of the top sellers of 89 so i think most people think shes from the UK. Whatever the case she was a breath of fresh air!

  • She's not. She did the accent for whatever reason but she's American.

  • no she's british...but who cares?

  • Everything I've read says she was born in New York, and there's nothing that says she's ever lived in England. So my logical conclusion is that she's American. Who cares? Obviously I do or else I would't be making these comments! LOL

  • i was ten when this shit came out and still to this day when i see those to annoying girls dancin in the video i just want to jump kick them in the throat! lol

  • i love how she sings so fast it's hard to keep up singing with her

  • i wish i had a time machine to go back in time to fuck neneh cherry

  • when she says,"huh, sucka!?".......i get all tingley in my pants!!

  • Still good !

  • The pre curser to rap this lady was way ahead of her time and this song still sounds great

  • PERFECT song to do the Steve Martin to!!

  • Buffalo Stance Vogue toe may toe toe mah toe

  • hey the source of this video was VHS or S-VHS, i believe in the last option the color and luminance is so clear and crisp for 420 horiz lines

  • i remember the first time wen i watched this video in hi band definition was in a IVC9000 open reel video tape machine..it was in 1990

  • where the hell is my 8 ball jacket?

  • Voll super Lied...habe wir früher immer gehört.

    5*****

  • Time flies so fast... :(

  • Yes it does!!!

  • twenty years ago, and i still love it. suckah.

  • A short version of this song. BUT the best sounding version by far ! Could you post the ORIGINAL album version in stereo? Please?

  • I first heard this song on a fee 7 inch with Melody Maker - it was the long version with an extra rap. Hope they post it!

  • Nice quality vid.
