They already did, it's called ArmA: Combat Operations, and it's available from Steam for $30. Same engine, same basic functionality. VBS2 is the military version of ArmA.

I wish they had all of the units in VBS-2 though. They have an AC-130U, F-16C, HEMMT, AH-64 and AH-64D and tons of others I like. Also the RTE, the fact that you can make infantry groups, much more complex and simple editor and even all the vanilla arma 2 units. I really want it!

The only unrealistic thing about this is that vehicles blow up in flames like in hollywood movies.

Vehicles, even HMMWVs, can certainly catch fire after being hit. There's plenty of flammable material in the cab, not to mention the fuel (which doesn't "explode" in the sense that the gas tank itself explodes, but the force of an IED will certainly throw it in all directions as it ignites, which gives you that "fireball"). Plenty of IED videos attest to this.

Hell, I've seen a Buick Rendezvous get hit in a head-on so hard, the engine block immediately burst into flames.

If you can't afford VBS2, buy the game it was developed off of - Armed Assault, which you can find at armedassault dot com.
