The PAD wants to chance the law so only 30% of law makes are elected by the people, and the rest by selected high status people. This is not democracy in action. The PAD should stand for People against Democracy.

The Thai anti-government protesters are nothing more than a bunch of fascist thugs. It is extremely ironic that they call themselves the People's Alliance for Democracy, when what they really want is to instigate a military coup to overthrow a democratically elected government, so these thugs can get back to enjoy their nice little bourgeois urban middle-class lifestyle at the expense of the rural poor who account for the majority of the Thai population.

It seeks to overthrow a democratically elected government through mob violence. The fact that the military and the police have been very soft on the PAD members is because they are all from the same socio-economic class: the urban rich and the urban middleclass. PAD membership is filled with ultra-nationalist, the urban rich, the urban middleclass elitists, basically your worst type of snobs. The Thai society much like South American countries and other developing nations, has a very stark economic divide between the haves and the have-nots. This entire political struggle is ultimate a class struggle between the rural poor (majority of the country) who voted for Taksin and the current administration vs. the urban center political establishment.

Its sad that PAD have resorted to violence and intimidation to get their message across. I was at the airport on Tues night on a flight to Melbourne. I had to walk 2km to airport entrance after it had been blocked by protestors/rioters wielding metal batons and knifes. It was scary. I agree that Somchai Wongsawat should step down as leader. The Thai's are a peaceful people. Peaceful, non violent ptotest should be the only way forward to achieve national unity.
