I read more about this tank from a book recently published by US Naval Institute Press. The author was a former military intelligence officer who defected to the West. The tank being lightly armoured is not meant to breach fortified defences but to penetrate deep into enemy hinterland once the breakthrough is effected.
Sadly the Americans chose not do deal with J Walter Christie and went on the develop the Sherman tank. To think, we could have had one of the best tanks in the up coming war. The T-34. Bunch of dumb asses.

BT-5s were well used in Khalkin gol. Zhukov had the right strategy.
However at an earlier battle at Lake Khasan 1938, they were poorly used.
