I don't know why everyone has a problem with this video, your not impeding his response at all, that truck just won't go that fast. We get this all the time in our old tanker, its a 90 International with a 5-2 manual trans. It takes forever to get up to speed but I always go lights a sirens even if I'm only doing 55mph.
In Oklahoma you must pull over for a fire truck. We have called in cars plates several times and they are always written a ticket.
We have 2 F450's brush trucks that can haul ass to fires, 2 F350's from the 80s-90s that can get up to 80, 1 that can barely go 45 mph like the one on this video, 1 old deuce and a half that can only go 55.
If we are on a call, must have lights on atleast and people must pull over for us. And we get disregarded quite a bit out here.
Furthermore they may be responding with multiple units and are about to be disreguarded, or sometimes they even recieve faulse info on address or location and type of fire they will be dealing with wich all has to be processed while in route. At any rate, show respect to all emergency responders. Next time it may your emergency and you my wonder why it took so long for them to arrive, If you are not a reponder of any type you wouldn't understand!
Most grass trucks are not built for speed, and the truck will not do anyone any good if it does'nt arrive on scene. Fire trucks do not respond like a police car because they are heavy! If this truck is carrying a 300 gallon tank of water the, the water alone wheighs over a ton! Also firefighter is probably multitasking while in route, communicating with multiple units, running the lights and siren. Most states require vehicles to keep back 500 ft. There is a reason for that.
Yeah we get passed on one of the highways since the governor on the truck limits the speed and traffic usually goes faster then us so we keep to the right lane. It sucks.
Its people just like the ones filming that cause the crashes with Emergency vehicles and kill the firemen!! Maybe he was looking at the addresses as he passed them. No need to fly up on him try to pass like a complete dick.
Normally when responding to an emergency, the EV should be in lane 1 (left-most lane) In backed-up highway and interstate traffic, I often straddle the line between lanes 1 and 2 influencing vehicles in lane 1 to go left and lane 2 to move right. That way I am not traveling on the median shoulder possibly damaging tires on debris and vehicles are not trying to move to another lane.
whats so hard about getting out of the way of an emergency vehicle!? This is the crap that gets firefighters and police and ambulance crews killed because people think they are so important and dont want to move or pull over and stay 300ft behind like you are supposed to. Just think we are going to save people and property. What if it was your loved ones or your property or you in trouble and someone did this to the responding unit. Just frustrating when people do this to us firefighters
He probably has more than 2,000 pounds in the back of that old truck, how fast do ya want him to go? If you don't like it then you join the dept. and do it better.
I work for natural resources, and its even worse with our trucks because they're painted green, people seem to get really confused with a green truck with red and white lights. Not much sense to have them tho, theres no speeding allowed.
I had a hard time recognizing that as a brush truck, but I guess it serves a very cash poor VFD. That is why people _NEED_ to donate. In rural areas, it really is a priviledge to have a fire department. We can't run on nothing.
rebelbiker6969 actualy the law changed blue means get the fuck out of the way as well as red and if you fail to yeild to a blue lighter and a cop sees you he can give you a ticket
actually we saw him leave the station then pull out in front of us. Then he continues and eventually turns around. It really made no sense. The only thing that I can think is that the driver didn't know the lights were on.
@csx5197 i am a lt on vol. fire dept playing with lights is a serious buisness what probablly happend he was reponding and the was cancelled we get that all the tim we get a call and head to it and they call us and tell us to stand down its a controll burn
@csx5197 The call was canceled en route happens to me a lot. He's responding lights on sirens going and dispatch tells him to turn around simple as that.
@csx5197 Honestly if the truck can't go that fast, they should have turned the lights off. I've been a firefighter in an area like that, and that's what we did. As for turning around, sometimes the response gets canceled if another fire unit gets there first or whatever. Just let them do their job. No more dumbass videos
@dirtrider20021 I knew that was in PA just by the looks of everything...
As for everyone that knows what they arn't talking about CSX you did the right thing. Also sometimes its better to just not to go balls to the wall... If its a bs call why go fast and risk killing yourself. Lights and sirens don't mean go as fast as you can... It means pull over i'm trying to go somewhere.

I don't know about Alabama but if you pull that crap in Florida, were i am a firefighter,
you get a ticket!!!!! Even if Alabama state laws says you don't have to pull over you should allways pull over and let them have the road!!! I don't know why but for some reason when i am in a brush truck going to a brush fire NO ONE PULLS OFF THE ROAD!!!!! What is so hard about pulling off and letting us go by? But when ever people see that big fire truck they pull off the road, but not for brush trucks!
our old brush went a max of 45 mph and had a redlight on the hood and no siren! we were passed alot! our current is a ford f350, lights and siren, people yield us the ROW all the time, no problems
pull what crap? I pulled over he passed me, then I proceeded back to the speed limit and didn't dare pass him because I knew I shouldn't, thus why I was behind and following.
@csx5197 In TN the laws say you can't follow within 500ft, both lanes of traffic must yield to the right, and you must stop clear of all intersections on approach from either direction of an emergency vehicle using lights and sirens, maybe you should use that as a rule of thumb when you're driving.
if this truck was in Alabama the state law in Alabama says fire trucks must not drive over the posted speed limit besides most brush trucks that i know of in Alabama are low geared ex military i know that is what the vol. fire dept. in Anderson,Al has. and it will only go about 45mph
@radioguy100 in Alabama you do have to pull to the side. I live in Alabama they just passed that law plus the move over law. Im in the county Rescue Squad and my people dont pull over because they dont know about the law change, I have seen many people pulled over if they dont when an office see it happen. I wish we could get the tag number and turn them in but we cant
Heh, that guy was moving along considering what he was driving...hell, if I got HALF that speed in our brush truck I'd be a happy camper haha.
In Alabama you can pass emergency vehicles, you don't even have to pull over when the lights/siren are on...we can only ask for right of way, not demand it.
yeah-- but how many times have you been passed?- im in alabama and driving the brush, we typically hit only 50 tops and we have never been passed, to my knowledge.
Not sure about the U.S. but in some countries it is ok to pass an emergency vehicle whilst responding as long as you don't get in it's lane and u have to stay 200M ahead if you are to go into the lane it is in.
Just FYI it is a misdemeanor in most states to follow an emergency vehicle while it is running code. We report all vehicles to PD that do this in our county.
he originally passed me, then slowed down to like 45 in a 55 and kept his lights on, so I stayed behind him like I thought I should and continued down the road for a couple miles then turned around in a U-turn. I guess he went the wrong way. I also had the zoom on, so I wasn't as close as you think I was.
yah and if the driver is a prick like me i'd let them pass, get the plate number, and turn it over to the local police agency. there is no reason whatsoever to be tailing an emergency vehicle...especially when the lights are on.
That's why I ride the dotted line...Yeah, you may be able to go faster than me now, but when I get to the scene a mile down the road, you're just one more person that I have to get around...
That is a old Army truck with the 6.2 diesel and 4.56 gears, only good for 62-65mph tops, I assume he was WOT and you were just cruising...

You do know fire departments SOG's that stat how fast you can drive above posted speed limits and how fast you can drive to a type of fire etc?
Our rigs get passed on the Interstate every run even if we are doing 85.
Most department here have a rule of 15 above speed limit.
Grow up please, you comments during the video sounded like a 13 year old. Just saying..

Ridiculous to have those lights on if not needed.
You have every right to pass the vehicle if he is under the speed limit.
He has no right to slow you down.
You can follow any vehicle at a safe distance -not tailgating.
