It's called having lots of money to pay artist who are masters in their field to do these paintings. It's also having the money for a huge studio to shoot all of this in. I don't care how good you are with the software. If you don't have the money, it will never come close to these!
@Nekotico actually, with textures and lighting you can turn crap models into amazing scenes, it's all about craming as much as you can in to as little as possible.
@HBMHD I don't think the big companies use Mocha, but yes that's what they're for. It's actually much easier to track those dots than to try creating the perspective from scratch.
In the Torque clips, 3:20 and onwards, it seems lik there's being added some kind of depth layer? It makes the whole thing look way more realistic with displaced depth. How in the world is that made?
wrong, Maya was used in film first because the film industry standard was Alias / Wavefront back in the SGI days...not because Maya was the most powerful. It took maya a couple iteration after it launched before film started adopting it. Max was picked up by the game industry primarily because of its cost being 4k at the time vs Maya unlimited that was well above 10k at the time.
Plenty of film and games were made with both packages.
I've gotten pretty good at shooting and editing and am about to start into chroma or green screen effects, and I gotta say, stumbling upon this video is friggin awe inspiring. Thanks for posting!
@DeeTeeCG they do project 2D matte painting in 3D surfaces from the camera ! after doing 2D or 3D tracking but in this videos you saw they use also 3D application for digital environment like Extream Vue ... i hope that help.
very cool video, ive recently started using Adobe after effects to do simple VFX but i gather you can do shots similar to these using it? i would interested to know what programs they used.
@sirROBOMAN No, for the 3D (CGI) stuff they used Autodesk Maya, because it's the most powerful 3D modelling program existing in the world, Autodesk 3DS MAX are the second most powerful. Game developers picked up 3DS MAX because it was more functional (meaning that they could create games with interactive displays, quests etc.) and filmmakers picked up Maya because of its INSANE quality :D
@daveexperiment Correct you, are on the right path. Using the Adobe Suite and your favorite 3D application (Lightwave, Maya, Soft Image C4D) you will be well on your way!

The Foundry makes a good one called camera tracker. Most 3D camera trackers are expensive as hell.
