The most 80's of all 80's commercials. Whoever wrote the jingle is an absolute master because I remembered the words and melody for 25 years. I was talking with some friends at the bar last night about 80's commercials and I remembered this one and sung it. Looked it up on youtube this morning and here it is.
@iluvbogs I KNOW! What is it about these things??? i guess cuz its fantasy. I dont even like that chocl. but the commercial i can hear al over again....
Unbelievable! So I was looking for this commercial and found the 89 version, but knew there was a swing, or since I was 5 mixed up my memories and there it is. I thought I was the only freak that had an aesthetically contemplative moment with this. For sure not apparently. Now, what are the chords?
OMG This jingle was stuck in my head. I can't believe I found the commercieal. I used to have a crush on the guy with the blue eyes and wanted him to take me away to dream land . Sweet Dreams you can't resist....I used to watch this commercial at night during Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW) OH the 80's!
Holy crap, woman at the end looks like a hybrid of Kristin Stewart, Madonna(when she had black hair, circa "Like A Prayer" era, and Kate Winslet! :O She looks pretty! :)
Now I know why this song would always pop into my head when ever I was swinging when I was little.. It's amazing, I still remember the feeling of it all.
I loved the way the guy with the white turtleneck takes a bite, then looks up toward the heavens (while standing in the sky of course). I ate so many of these as a kid, I made myself sick! I wish they would bring them back! of course, at my age, i can no longer enjoy candy bars and get away with it ;)
They really REALLY don't make them like this anymore. This song is like Choco-Porn, and makes people wish Nestle produced cocaine. Though that alpine white chocolate was pretty damn close.
Can't you just picture Mickey Rourke and Carret Otis winding down long twisty roads on a motorcycle on their way to purchase Nestle?
It's not just a jingle, I believe it is a spoof of a very similar sounding pop song of the time but I don't know the name of it. If anyone knows please post a comment.
HOLY SMOKES! I still vividly remember this commercial, so I'm surprised to see that it was from 1986. Then again, I loved Alpine White as a kid so I guess the commercial always stuck in my mind (I'm so mad they discontinued this chocolate!)
Wow, I had this video as a favorite for months and just found this one, with superior quality sound. I'm amazed.
I grew up knowing the Sophie B. Hawkins version... I don't remember seeing this one or the third version Nestle came out with, and I found this all here on youTube like everyone else... the song just popping into my head randomly one day.
Darn Nestle for taking this chocolate bar away. I must've had it once or twice as a child, but it wasn'r easy to find.
Spelling out the company's name in a jingle was nothing new; this was primarily an updated version of the jingle Jimmy Nelson and his ventriloquist dummies sang in the '50s:
You are so right. I find it funny that Nestle would use that tag from what is essentialy a kids style puppet to put in their eighties contemporary ad aimed at adults.
I had this in my head today, for some reason, so I decided to come on here and find it. God, I haven't seen/heard this in 20+ years. So hilariously over the top. And the guy at 0:07 looks like the guy from The Blow Monkeys.
I agree this is a romantic encounter, but I would hardly categorize it as pornography. They are fully clothed, and what's so bad about the imagery? They appear to be in some arctic paradise, in a dream, or who knows, maybe even heaven.
If this commercial is soft porn, then all the rock music from the 80's must be HARD CORE porn as nearly every single released that decade had to do with sexual intercourse.
Soft porn? What a joke! If ANYONE sees this commercial as "soft porn", they CLEARLY have some sort of deranged sexual white chocolate fantasy that they're trying to project on others to cover up their own shame, lol.

If you think I'm making the softcore porn music thing up, get your hands on softcore porn from the 80's and watch it. This jingle is drenched in sexual overtones. Creamy white...sweet dreams you can't resist. You're being brainwashed to associate their product with the sensual pleasure of a romantic encounter. It's not even a strech of the imagination, just look at the imagery. I dont blame them though because in the end... SEX SELLS.
Man I used to like this song as a kid. They use to play this a lot back then,. Good memories, saturday morning cartoons, Nintendo. Ah to be a kid in the 80's
I was born in 1976..but after 1986 my life has never been the same since hearing this extremely catchy jingle...I wish I could rewind my life back to all the time that I hummed this harmony in my head, probably 100 different days in 1987, 73 different days in 88, 96 different days in 89 etc all the way right on up till this year..I was probably standing in line, or jogging, or at someones wedding or spending the night at a relatives house one of the times this song was on repeat in my brain!
Something led me to look this commercial up after first hearing it over 20 years ago...I was a radio announcer and kept hearing the audio version of it while I aired syndicated programs that Nestle sponsored such as "Solid Gold Saturday Night" with Dick Bartley, and Rick Dees' top 40 countdown. You are all correct: the music is haunting and just has a way of sticking with you. Truly a quirk of being an 80's child, yes.
For anyone who lived through the 80's you would recognize all of the inferences in this commercial. The music was to be reminiscent of "The Police" who were popular at the time. There was the scene with Rachel from "Blade Runner" (1982) and the ending scene was almost a replica of Maxfield Parrish's "Daybreak" re-popularized on cards and stationery. I know as I have the card.
LOL... so was I, I remember this commercial pretty well. They showed it mostly on the east coast when I was 6 then only occasionally on the west when we went to Vegas later that year.. or it's popularity had just phased out by then.
Wow! This commercial takes me back! I remember the second version of this commercial more than this one, but I like this one better! Thanks for the upload, tvrewind & thanks for the memories, Nestlé!
Sircamvialco, when I read your comment,Thats almost exactly what I was going to say. I was just a kid when I saw these commercials running and this song stuck in my head for years. I think this is one of the best advertising jingles of all time.
Honestly, this song has also haunted me for years. I've heard several other songs since then that actually reminded me of this commercial because the melody and chords were similar. Yet I always wanted to see this one again. However, if reminds me of hearing it in the background while having a ton of homework to do, when I'd rather be watching TV with me family. Who wrote this gem?
OMG...this song and video has been sooooo stuck in my head ever since it came out when i was a kid. It also gave me flashbacks of watching Moonlighting! lol

I now know that I was only 4 when I heard this, but it always stuck in my head, I think the Sophie B. Hawkins version actually, but there's something a bit magical about it, like it's a product of a culture you want to be a part of but that doesn't exist on earth anymore.
i want to learn audio software to make a trance version of this song - wouldn't that be so cool!? you know maybe a 5-6 minute song bringing parts of this song in and out, but based around this song all the way!
It reminds me of cartoons on saturday morning, Gi. Joes, Aliens, Watchmen, Jase and the Wheeled warriors, oh and fingering Amy Aliborne behind the tennis courts at day camp.
First time I've tasted white chocolate was from watching that commercial. Out of all the chocolates, alpine white is still my favorite, including that commercial.
OMG!!!!! I have been wanting to see and hear this commercial for SO MANY YEARS!!!!!!This is amazing. I love this commercial!!!! The music is haunting and I have been singing it in my head for over 20 years and here it is in front of me!!! THANK YOU!
Me too!! I searched for it before and couldn't find it. I actually had an awful audio file of it from years ago but was hoping to see the commercial again. The music IS haunting. AWESOME!!!

To the person who asked if the lyric is N E S T L E S or Nestles, I'm not sure but I think that's part of the appeal of the song.
I still can't believe so many people actually remember this commercial...but I'm sure it came out in 1987, not 86.

i want to learn audio software to make a trance version of this song - wouldn't that be so cool!? you know maybe a 5-6 minute song bringing parts of this song in and out, but based around this song all the way!

It reminds me of cartoons on saturday morning, Gi. Joes, Aliens, Watchmen, Jase and the Wheeled warriors, oh and fingering Amy Aliborne behind the tennis courts at day camp.

I can't stop watching and listening to this commercial and I HATE commercials with a passion! No wonder FNM covered it back then.

First time I've tasted white chocolate was from watching that commercial. Out of all the chocolates, alpine white is still my favorite, including that commercial.

I do believe singing N-E-S-T-L-E-apostrophe-S would have been a tad unwieldy.
