I was in Doura during the Surge, and we did so much good. There was a lot of deep shit to wade through first, but the place really turned out to be a safehaven for the Iraqi people. We had such a problem with people coming in and stealing homes because it was so secure!
We lost seven or eight in al Doura trying to tame it. In the end, I think the sacrifice of those Scouts was worth all of the lives that were saved.
I normally patrolled one mullhala west of 60th street, around Saha apartments in early 2007 before we headed across the street to the NE part of Dora. Good to see things changed, its something I guess.

i was there in the 2007 and it was a horrible place to patrol, lost some great friends in that neighborhood. iguess after killing everything there, it got better..............
i lost a very good friend on this street to a efp. when we got there we were told we were the first nato forces in there in over a year . it sucked! i have had problems with that part of my tour but seeing this video makes me think we really did something that summer . we were moved before we could see anything that let us know we did anything good but this little clip just gave me some closure . RIP W.G. Oct 2007
I never liked Bush, or the War in Iraq. But I've got to admit the obvious, Bush was right on the surge. The lives of American servicemen and the Iraqi people have improved thanks to that decision. Lots of people on the Left have difficulty admittings that, theire hatred of Bush has become almost mindless. His handling of the economy? That's a different story!
I'm glad you liberal shits are on here making sarcastic remarks about the success in Doura. I lost 18 of my buddies while we were there in '06/'07. 2/12 INF is the reason that place (Doura Market) is the way it is now. But please, armchair the hell out of it. We got thanked daily by the populace for being there and doing what we were doing. They cried for us when we lost guys...afraid we would leave.
Big change brothers. I remember a lot of our Currahee/Warrior heros. A lot changed when we instituted the HOMo's (Hero of the Muhalla's). That was weird pulling up to a bunch of armed Iraqi's that you know were shooting at you just a month ago.
What I find disturbing is how many anti-war folks are apparently UPSET that violence is down in Iraq and that the Surge worked.
I guess Bush being wrong is more important than the lives of Iraqi people. Sad.
I oppose the Iraq war but couldn't be happier that the war seems to be ending. And if the US Army is able to claim victory then I'm happy with that too.
A democratic, peaceful Iraq. Who wouldn't want that?
I served in Iraq. Apr 7th 03-Feb 14 04. I also served in Bosnia, Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo and Egypt. Folks its about the children. In Iraq they had no schools, no power, and shit for water. We brought the children some peace. Its too bad the media does not report this side of it all. The children there would rather have a pen or pencil than a candy bar. Part of my life is in that country. So all you haters can FUCK OFF. Because your LiBeRaL. And your opinion is based on nothing from expierienc
Why don't you show a comparison of that town before the U.S. Decided to wage an illegal war on a country that had nothing to do with 9/11. The U.S. invaded on false information. Where are the weapons of mass destruction?
Why is the "after" filmed at night and "before" during the day??? Also, did my tax money pay to build those buildings? How silly, what a waste of lives and money; all because we had bad intelligence. Did anyone get fired besides the RNC!
A friend's reaction: "I like how at the beginning the white balance is all red, making it look really crappy. Then, later on, the white balance is not only more accurate, but they include night footage, which tends to hide the dirty and pop the highlights. Very smart, but, sadly, EPIC FAIL (unless you are a pro-war neocon)."
See the thing about this is we shouldn't of been there in the first place. I am just as happy as the next guy that the surge worked, but it's kinda like getting only one question right on a final exam... you still fail. Too much else has gone wrong with how this war was managed to be considered right or a success.
Too bad we can't have a "surge" in say, Detroit! Or New Orleans. Or any of the other "black cities" in America that make Baghdad look like '50s America!
When thugs mess with US troops abroad, we KNOW how to handle them.
But when thugs destroy whole cities here at home, we stutter. Then we talk about fake things like "racism."
The we give the thugs money and make them Community organizers!
In a year or two the democrats will deny the surge worked just as they deny they gave South Vietnam away after it was won. Do a search on Lewis Sorley "A Better War". "He concludes that the war in Vietnam "was being won on the ground even as it was being lost at the peace table and in the US Congress.""
Well, I'll tell you this: sheeple will be dreaming of another President Bush by the time Obama finishes up destroying the country economically and foreign wise. Socialism at its finest. Jimmy Carter - 1976! Real change? Don't think so!
this takes me back in time. b troop 1/4 cav. place was a hell hole when we first showed up back in 07. rip brothers in arms

If it was illegal why did the Iraqi government have to get an agreement with the U.S. before December 31 when the UN Mandate expires?

Sadam had gas chambers. Do you not count them as weapons of mass destruction? Or is mass destruction only limited to buildings?

I would guess your age at about 18, mental age 11. Winning a war is not "getting only one question right on a final exam," it's acing the exam.
