Well done for restoring it. I wrote it with Tony (Hello Mike Lingard!) and have a slightly damaged VHS copy copied from the original Beta. My VHS might be a good start for an even better restoration. If I find it, and if you're interested, I could get it to you. I tried to get hold of Mike Mansfield TV to see if I could get a new copy, but I don't think they're in business any more.
The ITV commissioner hated it (filth, he said) and that's why it only went out once. Tony was heartbroken.
@TheRichTurner No thanks, my copy'll do me. Where did that prat get "filth" from?! He must have seen something in it no-one else does! ITV stuck it on as a late night filler, at a time when they were sliding so far down-market they were becoming unwatchable.
I escaped Britain for warmer climes a decade ago - but my son sends me disks of the GOOD UK TV I can't get out here. And it's pretty much ALL BBC.
You're the THIRD person I've heard from who WORKED on this mini-masterpiece.
Yes I worked on it too (make up designer) and this is the 1st time I've seen it..What is also a coincident..is I spoke to Jim Sweeney yesterday to see if he had a copy...and he led me to this site!!!!....Thanks ...Sandy Staples
@sandystaples03 - Thanks. Nice to hear from you. This is an example of what to upload. I have put up stuff that gets thousands of hits - but few comments. On the other hand, some pieces gets lots of comments, but not so many hits. However, these last are the MOST rewarding. Hits aren't everything!
Liking Tony, I recorded the ONLY (late night) transmission of the piece, when I came across it (so to speak) in the TV listings, back in '94.
But unfortunately, the VCR I was using at the time was on its way OUT - hence the quality. However, when I mentioned it to a Tony-fan, they begged me to put it up.
So after some WORK, I managed to restore it to acceptable quality and figured all of Tony's fans would enjoy it.
Yes. And this was done "in front of a live studio audience" - which is ALWAYS best (if it ain't funny, the people won't laugh, no matter HOW much you "warm them up"!)

It's because of YouTube that I, an American, get to see many Tony rarities. I got a kick out of this, thanks!

@Mikee121 - Mike,
Thanks for the comment. The fact that someone who WORKED on the show saw this - gave me PAUSE.
And MORE so, when it made me realize people can WORK on something and not actually see the finished article.
Glad you've seen it now. At the end, there is a plug for the next episode, but sadly...

This is the ultimate Spy Spoof, and we've had a lot of them. This would have been the funniest series ever if it was made. Tony Slattery is the man!
