I bought MMF2 last night, and am presently waiting for it to arrive. I'm mentally preparing by watching tutorials, and I found your videos entertaining and inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to put this stuff up!
@3kliksphilip Never realised a game could be that fun, but it's full of glitches.
One time the girl asked about her decorating, I said "I think it looks nice" and Tripp just kicked me out and said "Maybe it's time for you to leave", antother glitch is when you say the word "Melon". They will somehow hate you.
I tried editing files to change paintings and stuff like that, it was really easy and fun.
My friend has a pretty good gaming computer while I have a laptop (I get about 60 - 120 fps in source games).
I also feel like they don't really talk to you.
It's like when someone talks to you and just expects you to say yes or no and they just keep on talking, without a single thought of letting you respond before taking the subject further.
The game itself is really fun, but I feel so trapped and the bots really don't care about the players point of view.
@SWEGTA It's kind of like a more ambitious version of those old Kings Quest games. It's trying to pick out key words that you say, and will respond in a pre-programmed way. I don't see this changing any time soon unfortunately.
Still, it's a good reason to go outside and talk to real people!
@thomasl4d Valve are good at doing things like that. Most games don't seem to bother. I think that small games can be more niche and comedic than large games that try to appeal to a generic audience, usually by adding big guns, macho men in armour and lots of explosions. Or something like that. Interestingly, the portal series originally came from an Indy developer!
@Phamtom020 You can change this in the level's properties, by clicking on the level in the Workspace Toolbar, then by going to the second tab in the properties for that level and by changing the '500' to '20,000'. Not sure why you've got so many active objects, though.
i am making a game about miners, like motherload (play it if you havent, is really good) and you need to pass through every piece of dirt, so there are many active squares, as many as the mine has, and i need to put also the minerals... a lot of stuff ^^
Are you by any chance studying a game design course in Uni? If so, I would like to ask was it worth it and what do you recommend I do to pursue a career in this field?
I am currently in highschool working with Maya, UDK and hammer.
@adnanahmed316 Keep it work?!??!! What's that supposed to mean? :P
Never mind, I know what you're trying to say, thanks for the encouragement, perhaps you should start making games. Think up something as simple as a hoover and you could make an original game :P
@adnanahmed316 Yeah, I'm quite pissed at the moment. I blame the vodka. But hey, good luck with the java learning. I don't know a thing about coding, I'm still learning the basics of game design. But I enjoy it! Need to make another video like this some time, it's been over a year... which is quite scary.
Mate I found this very interesting and helpful because yesterday I downloaded the demo of this thank you for the source sdk tutorial I found them so helpful thank you
@harrygomm I don't know what those games have to do with MMF2, but no, it isn't free. Get Construct by Scirra if you want one for free, it's a very good program but I can't help you with it since I don't use it.
@3kliksphilip Please help, I made a TF2 map but when I try to test it, I spawn and all but the whole screen is black and any, I meant any, TF2 props I have on the map are all ERROR's... :'(
@tripleh04 Problem with making a tutorial on this is that every game is completely different, and even if there are two similar games, they're probably made in totally different ways. It's pretty much impossible to make tutorials on how to make a game unless I tell people how to do it MY way, which may conflict with how other people make games / might not be the best way, but it's the way I feel most comfortable with. But yeah, if people want me to make tutorials I'll try.
Yes I found the source on click site! Got it running on AEU! Took me right back!! Ha ha ha..
And I agree, I Jump'd straight into (Bat Sweeper)code! and Got Covered in Bat droppings!! lol
But Seriously - Thanks For Being So Open With Your Codes etc..It Nice To See Some1 Willing To Help Others, Instead of Just Showing What They can Do!! - You Show How They Can Do It!
Many Many Thanks!
Ps Trying To Do A Rpg/Action Game. With Paths/Nodes. Can't Find help anywhere!! - Any Ideas! Or Code!
@coxyofnewp Pathfinding is VERY hard to do in MMF2, if you look up tommyttk you'll find a tutorial on it. Though I still can't do it myself and always get him to add the pathfinding into my games (None have been released that include it yet though)
@coxyofnewp Did you know that AMOS is written by the same people as the ones who made MMF2? And thanks for the support, I find the best way to learn how to make games is to open up other peoples' games and see how they were made.
I've seen that before, and awesome as it is I mean actually doing what you did here but with Source SDK; like, actually recording hammer and speeding it up.
@sk8r2000 It sounds great in theory, but in the past when I've tried, it looks boring, confusing and you can't really tell what I'm doing until the very end any way. Heck, I'd say that this video is the same, but I'm able to add commentary to this one more easily.
I might get around to a map start-to-finish video some time, though.
i love games with creative gameplay. its true that big companies dont do that often, but valve did that with portal. another game i liked is tag: the power of paint. check it out
@zakoramaproductions You need to use some custom movement that's made from scratch for the character, then depending on the direction the vacuum's pointing when you press fire, it does different things to him. Give me your email and I'll PM you the game's code. In fact, I'll probably get a section up on my website dedicated to examples. I think I'll do that tonight.
@oOosupernicoOo I blame it on all of those games that simply imitate popular ones before it. Think of all those levels where you place towers to destroy enemies as they run down a path. Or zombie survival games where you hold them off night after night, upgrading your weapons at the end of every round. It's not the setting- it's the balance, the short and long term goals, and making it fun to play.
i have been trying with TGB, but although the engine is strong, i just run into alot of problems, and the community has died down, so i saw your videos and decided to try MMF2, ends up a very nice solid program to help get beginners on their feet, id love to see you do some tutorials!
I found this fun to watch. I wouldn't mind watching more if you made them. Tutorials would be very nice for people who are just starting to use that program.
I actually really enjoyed watching these, it's really interesting to see how a game is made, as well as just playing it. It also makes me want to make my own game, even if I do have no idea how to use the program :P.
Lol, actually, honestly from one game-maker to another, you did an excellent job mate. I use games factory (Multimedia Fusion) and i know how advanced your games are. :) Great job!
Just finished the game now. The level design was pretty slow paced but it really was the little things like puns, humor, and style (especially the clouds) that kept me playing. Thanks for the time well spent man.
Also, If you start making tutorials on MMF2, I will probably have to go out and get a copy of it myself because I think it would make a really cool hobby.
I bought MMF2 last night, and am presently waiting for it to arrive. I'm mentally preparing by watching tutorials, and I found your videos entertaining and inspiring. Thanks for taking the time to put this stuff up!

I actually really enjoyed watching these, it's really interesting to see how a game is made, as well as just playing it. It also makes me want to make my own game, even if I do have no idea how to use the program :P.

Very nice video and I love the game :)
Tutorials for MMF2 would be pretty cool.
Also I noticed some (1 major) glitch that would be great if you could update:
The glitch is that if you replay a level (such as the first level) and actually complete it then the levels you have already beaten disapear.

Lol, actually, honestly from one game-maker to another, you did an excellent job mate. I use games factory (Multimedia Fusion) and i know how advanced your games are. :) Great job!
I'd love some tutorials mate.
10/10! :D

Just finished the game now. The level design was pretty slow paced but it really was the little things like puns, humor, and style (especially the clouds) that kept me playing. Thanks for the time well spent man.

Congratulations on completing it, most people haven't been able to.

This is inspiring not because of the game, but because of the idea of filming all development. Mh.

Just out of interest, did anybody bother watching the credits?
3kliksphilip 2 years ago
I did, and congratulations on third place.
Also, If you start making tutorials on MMF2, I will probably have to go out and get a copy of it myself because I think it would make a really cool hobby.
