while other countries, because of their larger populations, may be responsible for much of the world's pollution, there are a substantial number of canadians who cannot accept the overwhelming evidence that their lifestyle is harming this planet. that's what ignorant, blind patriotism can do. they are not to dissimilar from the fundamental creationists who turn a blind eye to the evidence for evolution by natural selection.

As a Canadian, I proudly accept this award with honour. I can assure you that my country will continue to provide "dirty" oil to the world for as long as we can extract it from our soil. Thank you so much for this price.

It seems reasonable to assume, any pollution reduction measures applied to the Alberta tar sands, would make extracting oil there unprofitable. While this would make environmentalists happy, but it would kill a major source of revenue for Canada. If Harper effectively closed the tar stands despite the loss of jobs, he would have no justification to keep the asbestos mines open, or letting the baby seal hunt to continue. It would be political suicide for him to do different than he has.

Worst GovernmentSSSS ever! Agreed: Harpers team isnt taking environmental issues seriously enough. But ex p.m. martin and ex p.m. chretien ruined canadas efforts jsut as much, if not more considering emission targets were more reachable during while they had power.
