You need to go to > option > tools > settings > internet > Go online at start up > SELECT ''''NO'''.

That has nothing to do with the GPS. You don't need any network for the GPS. If you havn't ever gotten a GPS lock on ur N95 before, go stand in a large open space and hold the N95 (with the maps program open) with the slider up, and the area around the "0" key uncovered and pointing at the sky.

The phone needs to calculate your GPS position.

No, not at all. The internet connection can be used to download the maps, but you also have the option to download them using a computer instead so even if you have NO CELLPHONE SERVICE whatsoever. The only internet you need to have is internet on your home (or work) computer.

i really got conned by n 95 people.

i didnt realise its simulation on offer rather than proper navigation based on gps signal.

this stupid machine says no gps signal found in any city and ask to go online.

then if u select simulation, it assumes u go at a particular speed and ask u to turn bloody left or right when u shud be at that point according to its spped. ( irrespective of whether u r atuck at traffic or have passed that particular turn driving fast)

Ahh, no, you're wrong. It uses GPS satellites and their signals and it DOES work in a city. I've used it in large city's including Manhattan, Los Angeles, Boston and Hartford (well, that's not really a large city lol) but you get the message. In each of these city's and in the middle of nowhere (i.e. the interstate between Bretton Woods New Hampshire and Hartford Connecticut) and each time, it has taken mere SECONDS to achieve a satellite lock and it worked while going at a multitude of speeds!!

Yea, there is a way, you can go to "tracking" and it will show your route.

Yea, you'll need to download the maps for the phone, if you have a memory card, you can use Nokia maploader. This can be downloaded from the nokia website or, you could just search up "Nokia Maploader" and find a download for it. Alternatively, you could use a network connection (either wifi (WLAN) or your service provider (e.g. AT&T)) to download the maps however using your service provider will cost you for the data that you download.

Yea, for WLAN another way (in addition to Maploader or using a 3G internet connection) to download maps, is to use WLAN to download the maps that you need. But for Bluetooth, you might have, under the options for positioning (Menu>> Tools>> Settings>> General>> Positioning>> Positioning Methods), *Bluetooth GPS* ticked.

This will mean that as well as using the inbuilt GPS receiver, it will look for a Bluetooth GPS receiver.

By un-ticking this option, it should stop asking you for a Bluetooth connection.

As for the WLAN, when in MAPS, you can set the network usage for downloading the maps. To choose what it uses, Go: Options>> Settings>> Network>> Use Network: When needed OR Never. I have it set to When needed and it is set to use my home WLAN connection. To stop it asking for ANY WLAN, choose Use Connection: Never.

Just the built in Nokia Maps software. MGMaps gives you maps like Google maps (streets and roads, not aerial photos), but I haven't bothered using that one as I am happy with the Nokia ones.

Can you use tomtom software with the N95 man? I love the nokia maps anyways but i was wondering if u could get that software for the N95 and what you do to get the navi simulation if in case i wana show people how to actually work this out, where do u activate it? lol

Yea, you can use tomtom on the N95. If you do a google search with 'tomtom N95' there should be someinformation about it.

As for how good it is, I have never used tomtom on the N95 or in just a stand alone unit.

To get the Nokia Maps Demo, when you are in the route planner, (Options>> Plan route>> (after selecting the finish and start points) >> options >> show route>> Options >> Start Simulation.

That should take you to the same simulation as I have got in this video.
