  • Finally, someone bought the hovercraft plans from the back of a magazine from the 70s

  • I HAVE THAT LEAFBLOWER!!

  • they should make a giant air hockey game out of this

  • omg, i bet this guy smokes jays like everyday

  • how the hell is someones commentary copyrighted? like really?

  • want really good instructions on building a hovercraft? This video has a step by step guide, with a 3D modelling instructions. /watch?v=bcyFSyglWpY

  • hey, what if there were wheels at the bottom? O.o

  • Almost interesting. I don't know who WMG are, but by withholding the soundtrack they make themselves look like small minded people. Are they really planning to release the soundtrack somewhere else?

  • very cool!!!

  • theres no sound

  • Made this in my 5th grade home room class way back in 1997 when the plans were still brand new! Were the kids from other classes insanely jealous of our sci-fi awesomeness? You bet your butt they were!

Can't believe that website is still around haha

  • try on water

  • The link is underneath

  • hey!! can u give me some information on how u made this, send it as a message please! i am doing this for a science project and i need to noASAP!!!!! tell me as much as u can like:

what u need, how u put it together, and everything else! THANKS!!!!

  • your voice is copyright lol XD XD

  • no audio

  • Stan loves mythbusters

  • I can acheive this same effect by eating some taco bell, and farting on a smooth surface!!...lol looks fun..need to try it down a hill

  • Hey! I did this my junior year in my AP physics class in high school. we have these really long hallways that go downhill the entire way so it was way fun hahaha

  • I made it!

  • is there a way to make one that can go higher and does it go higher if there isnt anyone on it?

  • Sir first of all you need to do hair transplant...

    Then you can fly around....

  • hehe, looks fun :P Not... anyway great video.

  • It didn't fuck it up!

    It removed it. XD

  • u tube fucked up the audio :(

  • wow thats i thought it would at least go 2 feet of the ground

  • WTF is that fuckin' WMG

  • God damn this WMG...

  • Can you fill it with eels?

  • Interesting...here at Auburn University we make a real hovercraft every 4 months, and it goes 65mph. Except we use an engine equivalent to that of a snowmobile rather than a leaf blower

  • now if you're real ingenious. use some car batteries two leaf blowers i believe an inverter is required and now you're not limited to the length of your power cable. and if you think about use of a more effective pluenum chamber would increase efficiency and lift ability of your hovercraft. tehee =) built an autonomous hovercraft using centrifugal fans and Lego NxT brain to make it travel on its own.

  • Man Up and put it on a pond!!

  • our school does it too!

  • if you had bigger bag that the air went into wouldn't it go higher

  • If the leaf blower was strong enough, yeah.

  • I have always wanted a hovercraft.

  • push it down a hill!

  • i made one of those in 7th grade, mine looked almost exactly like that except mine went a little higher because i was a little 7th grader and didnt weight very much. haha :)

  • lol, if that thing was cordless, it would be like a hover segway!

  • gas powered leaf blower

  • yea lo but loud as heeeeeelll

  • yes but you can go around the block if you wanted to!!!!

  • LOL!!!

  • are you able to make it hover any higher by any means possible, or is this the only height that you can get to so far?

  • That would depend on the ratio of your weight to the air pressure coming through I imagine. If you had more air coming through at a higher pressure, equally balanced, you could make it go higher for sure.

  • @Spooly with a larger power source and a larger bag, yes, you could lift higher off the ground, but the bag must always be only a few millimeters, if that, of the ground. Otherwise, the craft can't produce lift. You never achieve what is considered flight with a hovercraft, sorry Orbitz commercial

  • @pyroboy08 you can attain more than a few millimeters by simply not let as much air escape, or having a bigger power source such as a gas powered blower

  • @Jdogdrums7 I think you understood me wrong, you can lift the actual craft as high as the bag is tall, but the bottom of the skirt has only a tiny film of air separating it from the ground. A hovercraft is meant only to eliminate friction with the ground, not actually fly. Although there are some hovercrafts with wings which can fly several feet off the ground.

  • @DeJordzta if you want a better hover height, then increase the size of the skirt. For example, if you make the wood disc 3 feet, then make the skirt a few inches bigger around than the disc. Say, if you want 3 inches of lift give about 4 inches of skirt leaving an inch or 2 to connect to the disc. In this video the skirt was about the same size as the disc...not allowing for hover height

  • mythbusters where the first !!!

     ahahah !!!!

  • those hovercrafts are what the graduates of that school leave with since their education cant buy them a car with 4 wheels lol. jk

  • Imagine going to work or school like this!!!

  • epic

  • this was on mythbusters as well.

  • that guys seating should have been so embarrass how disappointing... xd

  • imagine that with about 5 leaf blowers!

  • @yugi159b Dude you'd be friggin' airborn!

  • @yugi159b You sir, are genius!

  • can it go on water.?

  • it probably cant go on water but i dare youz to try!

  • mybe if it had 4 leaf blowers?

  • this is awesome! this may be the vehicle of the future!

  • indeed!!! XD

  • thats retarded it wud be faster to walk

  • that's not the point.

  • it isnt? whats the point of having a cardboard circle with a leaf blower? i guess you have a point about it sbeing special somehow but like its got no control n pretty much no speed

  • It's not meant to be a mode of transport, it's just demonstrating the science behind hovercrafts... and it's fun, therefore it doesn't need to have steering, though you could use a fire exstinguisher to do that.

  • really? i see so like cud u actually make one that goes really fast?

  • Definitely yes, but it would take a lot more work, this one's just for a quick demonstration and a bit of fun really. A lot more work is involved in construction a fully working one.

  • i think you should build me one =P lol so what other things can you attach to a hovercraft?

  • i will be creating a generator powered self propulsion on my self

  • ha ha! i did this with a hair dryer and a teady bear! it worked!

  • how many power or volts does it use???

  • would this work on water?

  • hover boards don't work on water! Unless you got power! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • lol, haven't you seen back to the future?

  • no i wouldn't becase of the corde

  • they could use a gas powered leaf blower maybe?

  • last year in my old science class we made that and rode it inside the classroom. it was sooo fun

  • ever heard of silicone???

  • better lift can be achieved with more slack in the skirt, strong plywood and cutting down the tube on the leaf blower. In my model, (with the things mentioned above) it was able to lift an obese man. However the edges should be protected because otherwise the hovercraft can tilt and dig in on one side, thus destroying the skirt. Duct-taping and innertube being cut and placed around it but I have not done either of those.

  • it works holly shit i made one

  • I did this in High School in the early 90's

  • I've done that before. lol its always fun.

  • it looks like these guys took the desighn from the mythbbusters >80

  • They weren't the first to do it by far.

  • The design is universal, since it is a model to achieve air lift. The device is called an "air film bearing" and has been used to move heavy loads on flat floors for many decades. There was a home-built plastic sheet version in THE PHYSICS TEACHER magazine in late 1989 or early 1990, called "human hockey puck."

All of this predates the Mythbusters. No matter how much I love them, they did not invent this design.

  • yep. they don't have a myth to bust without there being a myth in the first place. right?

  • @redwingsboy94 mythbusters are alsome

  • looks like a thicker sheet of plywood would be more efficient, cool.

  • i built a hovercraft for my high school physics class and with a good push i was able to make it the entire length of the school.

  • i used the exact same plans he holds up at the end.

  • looks fun how much weight can it hold?

  • dogg tht tight

  • Genius!

    but...

    Wired Hovercrart?

  • A battery for that would make it not inexpensive.

  • wat??????????????

  • hahaha, the seventh graders at my school make one each.

  • im making one

  • if you use another leafblower you can make it like a motor

  • i like watching the old guy push the kid around

  • ain't that ridiculous :D

  • This is how I get to class every day.

  • Genuin Mythbuster technology

  • the one at great mills highschool is beter, i test drove it

  • I'm making one for my kids when I have some. lol That'd be one of the funnest toys to have.

  • timbo is a gogo

  • no it was on mythbusters and thats exactly what they did and it worked pefectly

  • only on concreate though the sands a little too tough and the hight on it was a little to low

  • i only weigh 76 pounds, zooooomm!!!

but i wonder if i added a back mounted leaf-blower on a pivot, for direction and speed...

  • r u anerexic! your supposed 2 b 26!

  • LOL DUDE THAT 1 SUCKS my friend is in 6th grade an he made a really good 1 that acutally hovers

  • very cool ill have to get someting like this of my own going

  • Do you think I could do this i weigh 92lbs?

  • Definitely :D

  • @Spooly if i weigh 160? an i?

  • this is the hover craft they made on Mythbusters. But differnt adjustments.

  • i'm actually going to do this in the science fair.

can someone please put a video of how to do this.

  • i would deffinetly fly, im only 65!

  • lol i would fly i only way 96 pounds

  • cool xD

  • hey how 'bout a wireless hovercraft? lol

  • it can be done just look up nikola tesla wireless energy patents, definatly can be done!!

  • i like your video and im useing it for a science fair

  • My friend and i made something like this! it was simple. it was pretty fun to.

  • huh.

this reminds me of that one episode of mythbusters. pretty cool then, pretty cool now.

  • I'm gonna build me a hovercraft myself, but a little more extensive than that one. Also a school project though, but I'm expected to put an entire year of work in it.

  • aw, i wanted to see the one from jimmy neutron

  • hahaha good ol' bighead

  • i see two issues: 1: no propulsion of its own and 2: you have to have it plugged in!!!!!! cool, but its just a proof of concept really, not an actual 'hovercraft.' craft denotes something that moves, if im not mistaken. this requires external propulsion.

  • just strip the wire and take a car batteri with you put wires on car batteri and there ya go

  • it would get to heavy

  • yea but you know the rc cars?

just take a batteri out and that just 2lbs just strip wire and there ya go

  • or u can use a gas blower :O wut a concept.

  • or u can use a gas blower :O wut a concept.

  • Yes....

  • this will get booring after 1 day lol :)

  • THAT THING IS FREAKIN SWEET!!! How much weight can you get it to support? I'm about 200lbs, whadda you think prof.

  • Haha, that's awesome.

  • wow, i made a better one in 7th grade, we had races in the gym

  • i made one with a vacuum engine that was taken out ill put up a video if you want

  • Sure! That would be awesome! Be sure to upload it and post it as a response to this video. I am sure everyone would enjoy taking a look at it.

    Thanks :)

    -spooly

  • CAnt you imagine it? everyone it town on an plate, having an leaf blower, flying around xD

  • needs to be a gas powered blower...lol

  • thats awesome!

  • I WANT ONE!

  • i made 8 and they go in the air not over the ground i have same design except air holes on bottom and uniquely centered mine goes almost a foot off the ground

  • does no part of the hovercraft touch the ground on your one not even the skirt?

  • yeah not even

  • hey, if u can give me the blueprints, i will give all credit to u but i need a hovercraft for the science project next week!

  • well if you go on to google and type in human hockey puck it should bring up the blueprints

  • Don't believe him till there is a video.

  • I really doubt you can make one go a foot off the ground... If you can, how bout you put a video of this "Magic hovercraft"?

  • It makes you "hover" JUST above the ground, so you can drift along if you're pushed. There's holes in the bottom of the tarp and the sir from the leaf blower pushes out of the holes and exits out from underneath the hovercraft, levitating it a little. Sorry if you were looking for a solution for early-morning traffic problems. ^_^

  • That's cool!

  • well someone says that want a turbine, you really mean a real small turbine, i saw few turbines on a RC JET, they are really cool, but really expencive... something like 5 thousand dollars, i saw because i use to fly sometimes, but my airplane had a normal engine. ( a magnun 1/45) and its cost like 100 dollares : D maibe you could try with a RC engine of a airplane. they are powerfull

  • Why does everyone make tiny ones, there good but I want something with a bit more grunt im making a 4x8 foot hovercraft with a 390cc 13hp generator engine and a 3/4 foot hovercraft propeller i might put it on youtube, watch this space!

  • sweet man!! cant wait to see your video! be sure to post it as a response to this video, sounds like an interesting idea you have. :)

  • Very Nice!!!!

    :P

  • I built a smaller hovercraft with a vacuum-cleaner! Yes, it´s working! NICE MACHINES!!!

  • nice invention huh..it must be wireless

  • I'm sorry, but this seems extremely simple... at least compared to how difficult you'd THINK it would be. Can someone tell me why we don't have more of these...? -_-

  • Because people are far more interested in playing Guitar Hero and watching TV than getting out and building scientific projects. :) But I agree, more people should be out using their hands building these cool projects which are in easy reach!

  • how is this scientific?

  • Physics and gravity are not science??

Excuse me, I am just puzzled by your comment.

    Are you serious?

  • You have to understand that youtube attracts the illiterates just like convenience stores (all those bright lights) attract thugs. You should be very concerned at just how illiterate people are. And the leaf blower is not "electronic". It's "electric". Next time, use a gas blower.

  • I know! we must join the AGE OF THE HOVERCRAFT CAR!!!!!!!

    fun fun fun!

  • I've built two of these in school. They are very fun.

  • i am ready to build somethin like that, only a bit larger, different shape, and a diffrent lift engine and fan. i just need some free time, 2 engines, and 2 decent sized turbines. where do you get turbines and fans?

  • no idea man, no idea...

    *grin*

but good luck in your quest!

  • excellent

  • If you get two matching surfaces smooth enough, you can float a block of concrete the size of a house on a layer of air thinner than a hair.

  • this video still makes me laugh. looks like lots of fun.

  • come check out my lil boys homemade Hov craft.. I just posted it on my channel and they used the same plans seen in this vid! Its also called the human hocky puck! Note in the end of the vid... the head grab..lol

  • Dude, I love this. I wish all school could be that much fun.

  • might as well sit on a trolley and let someone push it.

  • try its funner on a trolly that is thing.. and more DAMGEROUS XD

  • And plus ! we don't need ELECTRICITY ! experice the joys on one of man's 1st creations at an extremely low low price.

  • True.. No ELECTRICITY and u can go as far as u like xD and not DAmaging THE ENVIRMENT XDDDD

    wot woould u go on??

A Hover which can go up to like 5m

Or a trolly Goin around... from NEw York to Enlgand xD

  • too bad sammysaurus93

  • well good, i wanna make one but my mum n dad wont let me buy a leaf blower

  • they are preventing your progress in science! :P

how much does a leaf blower cost anyways?
