  • where the hell did he pull that from?

  • @greekie88 he had 2 drum sticks next to his right leg, and between the 2 drums on his right, you know?

  • win

  • 5 people got hit by the flying drumstick...

  • thats nick mason?

    HA/ve YOU SEEN HIM NOWW????

    so diff

  • that's one badass butterfly shirt.

  • Nick is awesome!

  • beast stache

  • I love Nick. When pushed down, right back again just as good as ever. I don't like it when people say he isn't good. He manages an extremely nice, simple beat and can do stuff I can't see most highly regarded drummers doing. Watch him in the Live At Pompeii thing; he's a fucking beast. I also like that he doesn't show off and that he doesn't go crazy and then messes up. Nice, simple, smooth, but, when he's sophisticated, very fun. Nick Mason also has good a good mustache ;).

  • Nick Mason rocks!!!! =D

  • Of course Floyd are a legendary band, but that doesn't make Mason a great drummer. He got lucky and somehow managed to stay in the band even when they had to employ a back-up for him while on tour - shameful and a true indicator of his rather naff talent.

  • @MissEgasMoniz dude your thinking of sid barret

  • @drpin12340 Ermmm.....Sid was never drummer for Floyd....not sure where you are going with your statement.

  • @drpin12340.... dude your a fucking retard

  • lol that was badass.

  • Woah Nick Mason playing drums but not super-duper laid back about it :O

  • I noticed this. No biggie!

  • That's some very bizarre editing!

  • it takes drummers with balls to lose there stick and keep going

  • i can´t get this typed

i took a dart from its hole in the middle and put it back on on 8 yards nearly maybe i drum better but who else ?? eagls

  • People who say stuff like, "well he's not the best drummer in the world" - Are you fucking mad? what a stupid thing to say.

  • I like how he pulls a spare stick out, as if he was prepared this was going to happen!

  • music is an art not a sport... dropping a stick is not like fumbling a football, it's not an indicator of musical talent.

by the same (silly) logic a painter who drops a brush would be a bad painter or someone who drops their pen is illiterate.

  • I think one of the great things I like about how Nick Mason plays is that a lot of what he does is simplistic and laid back while many other drummers feel the need to go crazy. Also, the fact that he's very humble is cool too.

  • I NEED THAT SHIRT

  • Ha ha! fortunately he had another one up his ass

  • I'd like to see some of you critics play. Never understood "simple music" snobbery. Get a fuckin grip. Nick Mason can hold his head high among greats like Bonham, Moon, etc or even stack the deck drum kit fiends like Neil Peart. I love Neil and I fucking LOVE this tune, But I wouldn't even download Niel doing this tune, for free.

  • those fills he does seem really simple and straight forward but they're not easy. To stay in the pocket on grooves like in echoes and this song and so many others and keep that feel even through these basic end of the bar fills is amazing. I think a lot of people try to dowhat he does and merely only think they've got it (guilty!) when really it takes a huge amount of precision and soul.

  • I like the face he puts in the drum fill just after he looses his drum stick :D

  • Dont know why new generation drummers ignore him :-( but worship other giants (Paice, Bonham , Moon ) ?

  • Nick is plenty talented; he's just not a show-off. Nick is a class act through and through.

  • Man, I know this can sound a little gay, but... I love that moustache!

  • hahaha

  • AWESOME RECOVERY.

  • Nice recovery. I don't rate Mason much as a drummer, his style does fit Pink Floyd's almost laid back style but there are plenty better than him. However, I've not made millions from 40 odd years of drumming work, so who am I to say.

However, having just read his book about Pink Floyd I can say one thing - he is fucking funny!!

  • @spikejrt "inside out A Personal History of Pink Floyd "? yup I bought the book, and the audio book. always a good read.

  • There isn't a drummer alive who has not lost a stick while playing. It is how you recover that shows what kind of player you are. Nick keeps the beat while replacing his lost stick. I would venture to guess that many people in the concert did not even realize what happened.

  • @castlehilldude I'd guess you're right since there wasn't anyone (save for crew) at this "concert"

  • incredible touch and timing. he always knew when and when not to put in a fill

  • Nick is one of best drumers and a legend..BTW he loosed his dromstick twice in Pompeii movie here and ath the end (Echoes 2) but the rhytm was slowrer so it didnt seen well...

  • OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!!!!!

    MAESTRO!!!

  • That was so smooth....

  • There's another mistake in the song, earlier. He fails when tries to hit the saucer or whatever it's called.

  • @baseballfuries08 UMMMM No!!!

  • Haha, awesome video! I thought about editing this part and putting it on my channel but someone beat me to it! Check out my Nick Mason drumming video from Live at Pompeii, if you like this you're bound to like mine!

  • That was brilliant. Right on!

  • good recovery.

  • Happened to me live once. And my backup sticks fell of my drumset just after we started, so i had to play with one stick while trying to reach the other stick.

  • gran inspiracion...grande NICK MASON!!!!

  • parece que cuando se le escapa re vuelve loco jajaja

  • Si no fuera por el, no sería baterista.

    NICK MASON IS GOD

  • la verdad que pink floyd nos engancho a muchos y seguramente acabamos tocando algun instrumento gracias a ellos, saludos desde sevilla

  • that recovery was so amazing. I think is the coolest person to look at on this movie. He is just so into it the enite movie.

he really does stand out in this movie.

  • Nick may not be the most talented drummer ever, but he never lost his beat. The man is a pro, and the band is a legend.

  • @Rolandzebub He actually did lose his beat a few times during the pompeii sessions, but he's still awesome artistically

  • @Rolandzebub NICK MASON NOT ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED? hey

    you're insulting music, really

  • @Rolandzebub isn't that really what matters in the end? I'm no drummer but keeping the groove going sounds like the most important and most fun to listen to.

  • such quick recovery...love Nick.

  • Love it. Nick Mason is one of my heroes.

  • ?? Ooh and You are so talented bitch! Waste of life.

  • @thebadsuits what the fuck do you know? you're probably a 60 year old gay bartender who buttfucks his pedophile uncle every night. nick mason is one of the most talented drummers whose ever lived. the only time you've ever used a drumstick is to shove it up your fat wrinkly old ass!! fuck off you old fucked up bag!!!

  • @thebadsuits im not even gonna gratify that statement with an actual response oh maybe i will,....... go back to ass fucking children in the basement dickweed

  • @SPAZZO186 good addition

  • best drummer ever

  • Haha!I just remembered, got it on dvd...Jeje!This guy is amazing!Loooove him!!!!!

  • haha, nice save!

  • i have not even notice!!!he is an awesome drummer!!!by the way ringo is awesome too, few people notices his work but without him the beatles doesn´t sound the same...

  • Love Floyd. Love Nick's sound and tatsteful style. He's a total beast in the Pompeii film. Slick recovery from the stick drop too.

Still, the timing slowed during the groove a fair bit at times in this clip. Was that him or the tape?

  • Uno de los Grandes!!!

  • one of best drummers ever

  • Fuck you, man. There's no need to be hating on the Beatles. Nobody should hate on the Beatles. One of the most musically talented bands there was.

  • Comment removed

  • You're just wrong you ignorant fool. Get your shit together.

  • zhizhizhi

  • The strange thing is, that he loses his drumstick.. but the drum is the same that you can hear is the studio album! He was a little bit lucky why he loses the stick when he had to play anyway with only one stick... still a great drummer!

  • regardless of the loss, he gets a replacement as he keeps playing the drums. he's complete pro, i agree with seendaa. THE SHOW MUST GO ON.

  • Drops it at 0:19 - great recovery!

  • he played that off like it was supposed to happen!

  • look how he recovers it! he is a professional!

  • pete best was best... that is all... saying anybody else is best is meaningless... unless their name also happens to be best. :P

a more accurate statement would be nick mason is my favourite drummer, or i enjoy pink floyd's music more than anybody elses.

that way you don't come off looking like an ignorant knob.

  • That may be, but Ringo ended up being the Starr of the show.

  • NICE!!!

  • i didnt even see him drop it haha

  • Nick is an absolute legend! His drumming on early Floyd music is brilliant, well backing up Dave, Roger and Rick.

  • vinnie colaiuta suck my dick very well!!!!

pink floyd are the best thing all over the world!!!

  • Thats a matter of opinion, Pink Floyd is my favourite, but I try to not argue best it just pisses people off no matter what side you take :P

  • Flawless recovery!

  • Mason is regarded as one of the greatest drummers. He can't be underrated if he's on the top.

  • At least David got credit for the #2 best solo ever with Comfortably Numb.

  • Doesnt seem hes too underated #51 on best drummers of all time

  • Nick's one of my all time favorite drummers. I saw Pink Floyd live in '94 and Nick's playing was stellar. They opened with "Astronomy Domine" without the second drummer and played superb. All drums on The Division Bell was Nick. Even all of the drums on Delicate Sound and PULSE was Nick. Took a few shows on the Lapse tour before Rick and Nick were playing like they did in the old days. Roger Waters tried to ruin them, David Gilmour (God bless him) saved and rehabilitated them and their playing.

  • I saw Pink Floyd in 94 as well. I was 14 at the time. Pink Floyd was my favorite band then and they still are today. On the day of the second show here in Atlanta I was sure I wasn't going to be able to go and then my mother called saying she knew a couple who had two extra tickets. She even worked my cousin's shift at the restaurant where they both worked. It was the best gift I have ever received.

  • If only I could pull out another stick that smooth! Nick Mason is quite the drummer!!!

  • that brocken stick creates one of my absolute favorite brakes. when the crashes turn silent for a moment and only the snare remains. soooo good

  • i think nick as well as the rest of pink floyd were all underrated as muscicians with the exception of Roger Waters who was a great lyricist but not much on bass. Gilmour was certainly and still is a great guitarist definitely in the top 15 imo. And there are no words to describe how much I admire Rick Wright's work.

  • i'm sure..he's he best drummer i know..i love how he drums and i love pink floyd's music..

  • you're not far wrong about Mason ...he is certainly underrated as a drummer...he has tons of feel

  • I prefer masons feel and playing over Bonhams..i know i'll be in the minority here with that statement, but there's something about the way nick plays...so spacey and tasteful...such an overlooked musician

  • I agree with you - Nick Masons drumming is very tasteful and spacy. I love Nick Masons drum "solo" on the song "Time"

    Shine On

  • people, dont forget about Keith Moon also

  • I wouldn't be a drummer if it wasn't for NICK MASON!!!!!!!!!!!! so fucking awesome

  • MASON TE AMO!

  • Guys, guys, guys, He is the best drummer, and yes, he probably is stoned when he retrieves the other stick. . . . . . but just one thing, nick mason does not 'lose' his stick actually breaks!! if you got the pompeii dvd slow it frame to frame and you'll see the broken stub in his hand still! what a legend!!! he definitely is my inspiration.

  • he and Jhoan Bhonam the best drummers ever

  • Well on thing is for sure, this guy is great and fun to watch.

  • its not about difficulty its the way it sounds and his energy and emotion.

  • bully for you

  • the best drummer ever

  • I 'll bet Nick is heartbroken to hear that.

  • skill

    hats off to the man

  • I'm no drummer, but I'm just in awe each time I listent to that part, and when I watch it, I can't help having a BROAD SMILE of pure, unspoiled, joy. This is just perfect! :)

  • holy shit!!! nick mason what a legend!!!!

  • starting at :20 that bit he played with only one stick is friggen awesome, goes really well.

  • yes im obviously a fan of the floyd but even if i werent i would still say he is one of the best drummers of all time

  • That tom stand looks a bit unstable

  • you know every one didnt know how to play their Insturments to Begin with but look how great they became

  • Awesome!!

  • In fucking sane is the word. The drum playing in Echoes was the only song that Nick out did himself even more than this. He was one of the greatest drummers in the greatest rock and roll bands to ever walk this planet.

  • Doesn't miss a beat.

  • thats ausome how he pulls out a spare

  • it's funny, Nick looks like biker back then, now he looks like a banker

  • what is the name of the song?

  • One of theses Days.

    Epic song.

  • REFLEXES LIKE A CAT

  • HE"S A MADMAN !!!

  • Man its as if it never happened NICK you are GOD.

  • Oh!

  • it happened to me once ;]

    very nice recovery.

  • happy birthday nick

  • nice save!

  • i would have NEVER caught that.

    what a genius :)

    he recovered so quickly.

  • He didn't catch it, he grabbed another one

  • no i meant if no one told me i would have never known.

  • nice recovery!

  • He recover the stick very well!

  • why do most bands from this era use coated drum heads?

  • i think it's because most drum head makers, didn't have the technology to make them like they do today.

all the drum head's ive played on, sound so much better with coated too

    also, nice recovery by Nick

  • He alwys wears another one in hic pocket :)

  • nice

  • Ha. Im feeling that butterfly shirt. And great dvd and performance btw.

  • I don't know if anyone's ever noticed it but, on the Meddler album, their unofficial album of BBC radio recordings, the cover has the ear in Meddle reflected on itself, forming a butterfly, much like on Mason's shirt.

  • i love nick!!

i almost met at a car show a couple years ago

it was the only time i missed that car show in my entire life

    i almost cried

  • I'd like to think that oysters transcend national barriers.

  • Haha. The oysters are good aren't they. I don't know what nationality they are

  • the oysters are alright aint they.

  • The oysters are alright

  • underrated great Nick

  • Iv done that a few times lol

  • that is just an occupational hazard

  • lost the stick but not the timing ......10/10

  • Really, I just want those hairdos to come back into style.

  • nick is the shit

  • yes pink floyd put a lot of effort in their music. and of course every album was on the charts. nick masons amazing

  • They looked so cool in 72!

  • He is so loose. His stick flys off and he doesnt even care he just picks up a new one and goes back into it. He really jammin here. He just feels it. Thats why hes a great drummer

  • Nick Mason must be the best drummer in history:)

  • Pink Floyd wasn't a band centered around drumming like some prog bands (Rush). They were more guitar and keyboard centric. Not as keyboard-centric as Yes however. To be perfectly honest, I think all 4 of the instruments were equally important in Pink Floyd. That is what made them so great.

  • I love Pink Floyd, but we all really have to admit that Nick was an average drummer. Not that it affected the band's sound, for them he was OK, but let's face the facts. The best example is that when it came to play odd-time signature patterns in "Mother" and "Two Suns in the Sunset", Andy Newmark had to be brought on, because Nick just couldn't handle it. And his contributions to "Momentary Lapse" were less than minimal (even if he was a regular band member).

  • I have to disagree with you there. Time is and excellent piece of music with phenomenal drumming. Also in this very song, he's simply incredible.

  • There are couple of songs with good drumming (phenomenal is bit too much), I would say Time, Money, Sheep, One of These Days and maybe couple more... Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad drummer, certainly better than Ringo, not worse than Charlie Watts, but when it comes to technical skills, he's average. But hey, I still love Pink Floyd and I don't think that he made the band worse or something. In fact his style of drumming perfectly fitted their style.

  • he really made the most of his carrer. pink floyd is mostly slow music but he really complemented the songs with his drumming

  • I know it's all opinion...but that's like saying the space shuttle is an average airplane...

  • I know it's all opinion, but nothing about Pink Floyd was average...maybe Nick Mason is average amongst Carl Palmer,Ian Pace, Neal Peart, and Keith Moon

  • That's exactly what I'm saying. If we consider Pink Floyd one of the best bands ever we also have to rank/compare its members with the best instrumentalists. If I had to chose top 10 guitarists, keyboardists, bassists and drummers, from PF probably only Gilmour would be among the best. As for drummers, I could probably list about 20 better than Nick. More skilled that is. But skills are not everything. You don't need to be a technical band to be great. The Beatles are other example of that.

  • that's good,because skill-I have none LOL

  • Well, I can say you that Richard Wright was one of the best keyboardists who ever lived. Remember all the weird psychedelic melodies and such?

  • Thats like saying Hendrix was average amongst da da da da....BUT for their time they were outstanding.

  • agreed!
