The MSX version was the best with music....and it still kicks ass. The MSX-2 system have indeed smooth side scrolling... it is possible.. but the programmers where no good at the time... One company did a good job with side scrolling. It was Konami with the side scroll shooter "Space Manbow"...that is a smooth scroll. And many horizontakl srolling like "Aleste", "Aleste 2" (many compile games) good old "breaker" and don't forget "Undeadline" from T&E Soft.
It's not actually NES music -- it's for a PC system called MSX2. Garudoh went over it a little in the comments. Cool to hear these toons changed around a bit, isn't it? Not as tinny = more ear friendly. :)
The MSX systems were computers, so I can't say how many bits they had, but essentially they were in the NES ballpark. The system didn't do moving screens so good, so it was kind of gimped from the start, but it did do a few other things better. It also was the starting point for a few franchises, such as Metal Gear.
Type 'MSX' in Wikipedia and you'll get the full rundown.
the second song its in FF I, VI, and IX, well i think in more too but i cant remember, is clasic sing of FF same as Prelude, that is the first of course
This video confirms it. The sound and graphics were better on the MSX as opposed to NES--just listen to it and look at the roofs on the world map, they have color!
Except for the choppy animation. And they had the push the system's hardware to accomplish that. Most MSX games were a screen by screen affair like Metal Gear and Vampire Killer... even it's version of Contra had no screen scrolling.
well, the MSX had much more space available for music and graphics. It had 2 fatal flaws though, which IMO gave the NES an edgle. The loading time and the infamous Attribute clash glitch (see wikipedia)

Good ol' Square, constantly remaking this game even back in 1989.

This game was before my time, but emulating sounds (Literally!) like a good idea.

'Kay, wow, the music is amazing, just the battle theme alone is insane
Quez256 2 years ago
Yeah you were right about MSX not doing moving screens well. =D did you choose to use this version because the music sounded better?
Celestrious 2 years ago
The music and the graphics were better in the MSX version. But the animation was choppy as you mentioned.

The part that starts at the 1:00 minute mark almost makes me want to stand up and put my hand over my heart. Is that weird?

Thanks for posting this. I didn't even know that this MSX version of Final Fantasy existed. I like its music better than the NES version.

boxcarguy07 3 years ago
That song has been used in every game. It's the theme of the series.

Still brilliant after 20 years. The battle theme in this version kicks ass.
garudoh 3 years ago
It's brilliant. The best one imo, next to FFVI's of course.

Yes because it wasn't meant to move at all.
