Gary, with wet sanding, if im able to do it outdoors (like with bike parts) then ill have a really slow trickling hose pipe playing on the sanding block all the time to keep it totally free of removed material, but if you're not able to run a hose ( in a garage it would flood the place out), then i use a hand held plant sprayer bottle and keep pumping clean water on the work area...the key is to keep the removed meterial off the job asap..it prevents clogging and stops the clog from scratching
@Moonfleet41 Thanks Del. Yes, we were not quite setup like we needed to be for this one. Definitely would have done it out side, but we had the front suspension off the car so we couldn't roll it out. I like the pump up sprayer idea.
You might ask the pro guys about that upol #8. I think it's a rattle bomb. Most of the pros shy away from that stuff. I'm guessing they would typically go with a standard acid etch. Darrin and Matt can give you the info.
What a great feeling to have the car sanded and masked ready to paint first thing in the morning. Good luck tomorrow!
sealer seems like such a pain in the arse, do you really have to use a sealer? I will be doing the same soon, and i cant help but think sealer add's even more chance for me to ruin things lol
am i right in saying sealer isnt sandable, which means you really cant stuff it up?
@GarethDavidWebb Probably don't have to use it, not sure. We have a few bear metal spots and one spot where filler is exposed. We bought 2 different kinds, we have an epoxy primer that can be mixed as sealer, and a urethane sealer, but I dont' think its meant to go over bare metal. Its not meant to be sanded. Of course you can probably wet sand it with some 600-800 if you messed something up.
@GarethDavidWebb sealer is priceless ,i never used it back in the day,the first tyme u get the basecoat eating the primer,EXT. u will wish u had used sealer, cuz when that happens u R done put the gun down, wait days 4 it to dry then u get 2 sand that spot,i have done it I LEARNED the hard way PEEEACE
Looks like your going to hit your deadline for tomorrow! Great job guys! Oh and I wanted to ask you how do I go about getting all these helper's to come over and work on my project? lol
@Rasd4Metta Oh yea, we had the whole crew over, they came about halfway through and did a good job, goes alot faster with 4 people going at it, clean up is fast, and masking is fast! I have to buy a masker, I see them online for like $50, and our local PPG jobber sells one for $70, I am having a hard time paying that, but it sure would save some time...
@turbocobra Ya I was actually thinking about one yesturday when I was taping up the car lol You know with your talent you could probebly just make your own and it will probebly be cheaper then both of them!
@Rasd4Metta I saw the one Matt and Jim made, in one of their recent videos, lol, need one like that. My masking sux! Will have to get better at it trying to do a 2 tone paint job will be lots of extra masking required

I don't re guide coat after 400 but it won't hurt to do it. I also like to squeegee off the residue as I sand. Looking good!

@slowsrt Yea, we guided coated a few areas after 400, then stopped doing it, didn't really seem to need it.

@turbocobra When you do your two tone pattern are you going to use fine line tape first?
Rasd4Metta 2 months ago
@Rasd4Metta Yes, absolutely, I already have a couple roles of the 1/8th inch, I have used some of it messing around, so may need to get more.
