When my father and I built my 1992 Mustang Hatch, we threw in a marine cam.. I believe even then my dad knew I was going to wreck it.. Now, it's in our '02 MasterCraft.. Bitchin' little small-block!
Has anyone ever heard of the Dodge D 500? I remember this term from many, many years ago but have no idea as to what it refers to. Engine type, maybe? I also had a 241 ci dodge hemi that had 'Red Ram' on the valve covers. Was this name by Chrysler or after market?
d-500 was/is a chassie # d was rear drive 500 was 10-ton . w --was 4wd 150-1/2 ton. 250-3/4 ton and w350 was a 4wheel drive 1 ton ..so you have a 10 ton rear drive @554687858

I would like to have this 331 in my living room as a conversation piece. So when I wanted to show it off I could just turn the key. Nice!!! Floating down the Mississippi river in a house boat. Home "sweet" home. lol.
very cool! i once came across a hemi powered industrial water pump out in the middle of a blueberry field in rural michigan, i was astonished once i recognized those valve covers, i want to say it was either a 331 or a 354..i so badly wanted to fire the thing up since nobody was around haha
Chrysler had three Hemi's that they marinized. The 331, 354, and 392 cu. in.
Somewhere in my stuff I have the shop manuals for the 354 & 392's (used to be a dealer). They had two piece stellite sodium cooled exhaust valves with replaceable stellite valve seats - a real bear to seat..
331 cu inch marine equipment 250 HP.there was a 275 HP also.Alot for 1956.392 marines were scarce.was in a cabin cruiser because gear reduction transmission.I sprayed WD40 and water in the fresh water pump for run.quite a few 331 hemis in runabouts like CC Capri but few 2x4 motors in runabouts.I looked but don't have the cam spec don't know where to find it. would like info and 275HP spec as well.
Is it a 392? I guess bored? Any info on HP and cam? I wish these vids could give more info.. that is a cool old marine motor. I wonder what kind of boat it was in?
i know what you mean, where i go to school theres mostly chevy boys and im constantly correcting them on mopar info, hell i even correct them on chevy and ford info lol
A little more careful observation will show that the so called extended bell housing on this beautiful motor is a bolt on item. The cast in extended bell housings on Chryslers were '51- '53 inclusive.

Is that reverse rotation? lots of the marine engines were for dual engine installations.

The D500 was a car made by dodge in the 50s. The 241 Hemi was called the red ram by dodge, so no that wasn't aftermarket.

This is making me think I should do something with mine.
I have a 270 CID Super Red Ram, without the bell housing extension. It's been in the barn since the mid sixties, so it has a few dings.
Looks like it's time to dig this ol' gal out, and see just what I have here...

Why aren't there any accessory drives on this motor? Where's the water pump? It looks cool, that's for sure. And sounds good.
