@juliusspin You're right. Youtube is a wonderful medium, but the comments are disgusting. Is this the way to communicate with eachother? Insulting and cursing behind a false name?
This video really touched my soul and your mission to inspire people to never give up is accomplished. you've said exactly the right words to me and i needed that. so thnx
@theorator84 My point had nothing to do with themselves being religious, It had to do with them not believeing in Yaeweh which @Mrtitelist2010 said otherwise, so your point is mute.
Well i do have that right. Its called free speech. Diversity and equality in religion? You cant be serious. I wont give you an essay long history lesson about how christianity has treated people that act or think differently. You are shallow, brainwashed and hopeless. Good day sir.
P.S Im from a little country called The Netherlands. Now shush and go have a prayer or something.
@PALETRON87 first of all, im not christian idiot. @PALETRON87 more than 4 religions actually, and im using that as a figure of speech, if u are to attack me for that. i can give u a long lesson on how atheists treated people. an athesit's world in soviet russia and communist china? vietnam? many other pagans and heretics. those are people, not religion
if i was alone at my house i would literally cry the s**t out of my eyes. unfortunately my parents are in the other room and my brothers are watching tv, therefore i will wait till they sleep to cry.
BTW. the guy didn't want help from his dad to finish the race. He put his lifes work into this and wanted to finish it himself! If anything his Dad was embarrassing him and taking away from his sense of achievement.

I've seen many motivational and inspirational videos...this is by far the most moving video I have yet to see. It is definitely at the very top of my all time favorite videos.
What a great video, until God came along and ruined it. Have you ever seen god come down and help!! NO don't take away the strength and determination of people. People are great not god!!! Holy crap way to ruin a video.
If we all believed in ourselves and celebrated our own accomplishments life would be alot better. Stop minimizing our success by saying god did it. No YOU did it!!!!!!!
Plenty are fat, lazy and unsuccesful, does God not take that achievement? Or is he only there when someone suceeds. What a great God eh, it's up to me whether I carry on when the pain is unbearable, no one else.
Saw this my incoming freshman summer of highschool. Everyone is the class cried, guys and girls. I hope that if life throws me something like this, I will have the strength and courage and faith in God to overcome it with as much perseverance as this man showed.
amazing video, really emotional. that guy did something that many of us wouldn't do, why ruin the video by saying "god" did that.... god is just a twist of your imagination, just as all religions are.. that man accomplished what he did with a lot of effort and love from friends and family, not god
great video until the end. this has absolutely nothing to do with god. to disgrace his father and derek's ambition to finish the race despite his injury, and say it was gods work, is a disgrace to them both. It was their will to continue and finish, not gods doing
I watched this video to be inspired... but seeing all these comments bashing on people because of their faith. I'm disappointed. I mean just SHUT THE FUCK UP and let them have their say.
The video is supposed to inspire you and make you feel good but alot of these comments are giving the opposite effect. Quit fighting a pointless battle like this you limp-dick pricks just so you can feel good about arguing with a faceless person. Just enjoy the video and the emotional story
We see the light through Him, when we put all we have in our race, He watches over our shoulder and gives us the motivation to move foward. God is good. All the time! Blessed be His name.
this video is AMAZING!!! I have shared it with many and ALL OF THEM, ARE MEN AND ALL OF THEM CANNOT FINISH THIS VIDEO WITHOUT CRYING!!! This is one of the most moving videos I have ever seen!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT!!!
@justin11045 Yeah great video, true athlete doing what they do best getting up when they get knocked down! this is man owning nature! this is man owning his surroundings and not giving up! nothing to do with God.

This has nothing to do with a fictional deity. The guy did it because he had courage, passion and strength - by saying that it was through God rather than his own determination you're just cheapening the man's achievement.
@rafamct By saying that it is through his own doing is cheapening God's achievement and therefore glory which He deserves all of it. We are capable of nothing without God. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
@MrTitleist2010 so your saying that god helped this guy finish a race but he wont end wars or feed that one starving kid that prays for food every day of his fucking life
@MrTitleist2010 People like you scare me. So EVERYTHING we do is for the glory of God? Or are you going to read through the lines again and ignore the fact that people do bad things too? Murder, rape, etc. All that would then have to be done for the glory of god too. Some god you have. He impregnates a virgin so he himself can be born, only to kill himself again so he can "save" us from the original sin that he condemned us to. Awesome stuff right there!
@MrTitleist2010 I am a faithful believer outside of the context of religion (Don't do religion). When I hear people say man achieves because of their own efforts rather than Gods', it blows my mind. I want to call them "ignorant," but it would not be fair either. However, I do feel compassion for them, for they don't know what they are missing.
@Ether702 First off im not religious. Im not protecting anyone or any group. I judge things from my own perspective. You religious fanatics are so confused because you have no idea what you are debating. I suggest you take that talking snake, wrap it up , shine it up real nice and shove it all up God's candy ass. yes i just quoted the rock, you know why? Just simply because i can, deal with it.
@PALETRON87 i never said u were, i say you put yourself and humans over everything else in the world , and they are the ones destroying it. you hhave no right provoking anyone else's faith in what they believe in. and your response is even more nasty...scum of the earth, people like you is what is making it hard for diversity and equality in america. u cannot live aside, but u have to live above.
@PALETRON87 the trees that grow in my backyard are ebtter than you and of all of humanity, for u to put yourself over the earth and creator is disgusting
@MrTitleist2010@MrTitleist2010 Lennon did it without God, Buckley did it without god, Einstein did it without god, Gandi did it without god, Neil Armstrong did it without god, Tillman did it without god, Adams did it without god, Twain did it without god and many, many others... It wasn't a supernatural deity that pulled themselves through the tough times, it was themselves, Their own perseverance that got them through the tough times and lead to their achievements and not crunching on a god.
@FunAssFunProductions - Then why bother bringing up whether he was Hindu or Christian? They're both religions, so there's no need in us even having this discussion. Plus you're original comment implied as much. Gandi also practiced tolerance, which is more than I can say for numerous people commenting on this video (yourself included), who let their prejudice against religion overshadow the main message that this video was trying to depict.
@theOrator84 I'm sorry I think your a bit confused... Would you mind reading my comment and the comment I replied to? Thanks. I was simply stating to MrTitle that you don't need his god in your life to be a good or successful person, and then I named people who didn't believe in his god. It's that simple.
@FunAssFunProductions - I don't mind reading them, but perhaps you should be more clear with your words in the future, thanks. For example, I get that you were naming people who didn't believe in the Christian God. My point was still that at least a couple of them were religious, such as Ghandi, whose inspiration for non-violent protest and advocating peace was heavily influenced by religion. And you still demean the original message of this video, which was unnecessary.
@theOrator84 1. Don't assume, ask questions. 2. My comment had nothing to do with the video it had to do with a comment. 3. It doesn't matter if they were Atheist, Agnostic, or other I was simply saying that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a Good or Sucessful person, Which non of the people I listed believed in Yaeweh. Also the message at the end of the video states that the father acted like God. But once again my Comment had nothing to do with the Video.
@FunAssFunProductions - 1) It's not my job to clarify your statement for you, you should take it upon yourself to be clear. 2) I never said your comment had any relation with the video, I said your comment demeans the original message in this video. 3) Whether or not you were referring to a specific God/religion is irrelevant, my point still stands that many successful people are/were shaped by their religious beliefs. Which is why I brought up Ghandi, and I can also list MLK and Malcolm X also.
@theOrator84 I'm simply saying that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a good person that's it. It doesn't matter if your religious or not. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic or Scientologist you can still be a good person. I was simply refuting what MrTitleist said. My comment did include mostly Atheists/Agnostic I included Gandi purposely and I know him not as a Atheist nor Agnostic I know him as a Hindi.
@theOrator84 My statement was not unclear in any sense of my point, I made a point of not including anyone of Abrahamic Faiths. Gandi is a WELL known Hindu and it would be ridiculous to think otherwise, It's almost like asking "Is the pope Catholic?" Also instead of asking me what my point was, You assumed and concluded that I was stating that you can't be religious and be a good person, I'm stating that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a good person.
@theOrator84 My comment simply said "They did it without God" Not "They did it without a Diva or Higher Power" or "They did it without Shiva" By saying God It is to assume the Monotheistic Religions of Christitianity, Judism, or Islam are being referred to not Buddhism (Which doesn't have any Deities) or Hinduism (Which has a unlimited amount of Personal Deities) Once again it didn't matter if they were religious, It just mattered that they didn't believe in Yaeweh.
@FunAssFunProductions - So looking in that context, my point is anything but moot, you're just ignoring it. Which is fine, because I honestly care as much about your religious views/preference as you do about mine. Having/not having religious beliefs doesn't make either of us bad people. My beef, and it's not just w/ you, are those who insult other peoples' beliefs simply because they're different from yours. As my Mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all.
@theOrator84 Yes I can name many good religious people as you said Malxom X and MLK. I can name Mother Therisa, Martin Luther, Buddha, Confuca, I can name evil religous people like Hitler, or Osama Bin Laden. I can do the same for Non Religious people Like John Lennon or Albert Einstein and Evil Ones like Stalin or Zedong. I'm simply stating that you don't HAVE to believe in Yaeweh to be a Good Person you can believe any religion or lack of and still be a good person.
@FunAssFunProductions But to sum it up short and easy: You stated "My beef, and it's not just w/ you, are those who insult other peoples' beliefs simply because they're different from yours." I'm not stating that at all, I'm simply saying that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a good person. That's it. I in no way insulted your or any other beliefs, I simply defended other beliefs in remark to what MrTitleist stated otherwise.
@rafamct well yea God did have some stuff with this. He gave him the opportunity and if he thinks he did it all himself tht is bad. Without God we would do nothing. Any time he could take this away. Im not being smart by the way...
@xSa7uRN Oh you don't need to clarify that you're not smart. I'm sure we can figure that out all on our own. With the millions of people around the world dying of starvation, I'm sure a god really has time to help this one person finish a race or to help that baseball player hit a grand slam. If there is a god he would not dictate the lives of pety humans like the insecurities of relgious groups would have us believe.
@55jacos He is every wear and always with us. We are all challenged with a diffrent test. Yes he is with all of the starving people and I know, lifes unfair, but its how you hard you get up instead how are you are hit
@rafamct I'm sure if you were to ask Mr. Redmond if God helped him to get through the pain, to fight to the very end, and to ultimately succeed in that race, Mr. Redmond would give credit to the King of Kings.
its amazing how even after a video this inspiring A god arguement ensues let every man believe in what he wants to believe in we are all entiltled to our own opinion and no man can take that away from you. As a famous motivational speaker Les Brown said dont ever let someone esles opinion of you become your reality
I watched this live as a kid and cried. I was 12 years old. I am a grown man now and it doesn't matter how this is presented whether actual footage as it happened or edited like this, I cry every time... This is powerful! It really drives home for me the importance of being there for my children.
@IntroducingTheFame shut the fuck up. you have no respect for people, maybe sending you off to the front lines would humble you a little bit more. you are one of the reasons why this country is going to shit. we should go back to the old days and change our ways now. fuckin pathetic
Amazing video. I like the spirit of running and finish the race. It could be not to be in first but it is important that he has completed the race. Amazing video I am inspired.
goosebumps, tears, respect, admiration, inspiration... almost 20 years later and he is still touching the hearts, souls and minds of so many people through his actions that day... he may not have won the Gold medal at the olympics but he did in LIFE.
@laxguy22655 you fucking retard. theyre not saying god did it, theyre saying god gave him the strength to do it... but way to piss all over a great video
@iiAMSaM10 And you're a dumb fuck you just stated what I just said moron, think before you respond arse. No god anywhere from any point of view ever has anything to fucking do with anything in the human experience twat.
@laxguy22655 okay, were not assuming God threw ATP into his body magically and then he started running. the credit is all his, but its God's credit for giving us the ability to do the impossible. That is what i believe when i say that God helped. It;s sort of like a reminder that you have the strength to surpass any obstacles, you just have have courage to do it. he didnt give us a limit, he built us so that we can surpass any obstacle if we just tried, and that is what this man did.
@MKPAK93 If a teacher gave u an extremely hard test, and u study your ass off, going crazy, reading and memorizing every word from your textbook, and then you get an A+. Now is it fair for the teacher to go, "oh im the teacher and im the one who got you studying, so therefore i get all the credit"? HELL NO! He didnt do jack shit, but he gave him the test knowing that his student could pull of an A+ if he tired, and thats exactly what the student did.
@MKPAK93 also one more thing laxguy22655, if you thought that we thought God physically grabbed his body and pulled him up or spiritually shot glucose into his body then youre wrong. Society tells me that somethings are impossible. God tells me that nothing is impossible, thats how the man got up a succeeded becuase he knew he could do it and nothing or no one was going to tell him that what he's about to do is impossible. Hopefully that clears everything up. :D
@MKPAK93 Humans are greater then god, and god has never done the "impossible" or even the "possible." The courage came from his will to win and to compete. God has nothing to do with it., however, all it does provide is a false sense of humility, humans are great and powerful beyond measure and really do need to stop attributing anything to a magically "father figure" that doesn't exist.

PALETRON87 1 month ago
@PALETRON87 i never said u were, i say you put yourself and humans over everything else in the world , and they are the ones destroying it. you hhave no right provoking anyone else's faith in what they believe in. and your response is even more nasty...scum of the earth, people like you is what is making it hard for diversity and equality in america. u cannot live aside, but u have to live above.

@MrTitleist2010 @MrTitleist2010 Lennon did it without God, Buckley did it without god, Einstein did it without god, Gandi did it without god, Neil Armstrong did it without god, Tillman did it without god, Adams did it without god, Twain did it without god and many, many others... It wasn't a supernatural deity that pulled themselves through the tough times, it was themselves, Their own perseverance that got them through the tough times and lead to their achievements and not crunching on a god.

@FunAssFunProductions - You do realize Gandi was a religious man don't you?
theOrator84 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 Hindu, Not Christian.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@FunAssFunProductions - Still a religion friend.
theOrator84 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 I never said it wasn't...
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@FunAssFunProductions - Then why bother bringing up whether he was Hindu or Christian? They're both religions, so there's no need in us even having this discussion. Plus you're original comment implied as much. Gandi also practiced tolerance, which is more than I can say for numerous people commenting on this video (yourself included), who let their prejudice against religion overshadow the main message that this video was trying to depict.
theOrator84 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 I'm sorry I think your a bit confused... Would you mind reading my comment and the comment I replied to? Thanks. I was simply stating to MrTitle that you don't need his god in your life to be a good or successful person, and then I named people who didn't believe in his god. It's that simple.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@FunAssFunProductions - I don't mind reading them, but perhaps you should be more clear with your words in the future, thanks. For example, I get that you were naming people who didn't believe in the Christian God. My point was still that at least a couple of them were religious, such as Ghandi, whose inspiration for non-violent protest and advocating peace was heavily influenced by religion. And you still demean the original message of this video, which was unnecessary.
theOrator84 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 1. Don't assume, ask questions. 2. My comment had nothing to do with the video it had to do with a comment. 3. It doesn't matter if they were Atheist, Agnostic, or other I was simply saying that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a Good or Sucessful person, Which non of the people I listed believed in Yaeweh. Also the message at the end of the video states that the father acted like God. But once again my Comment had nothing to do with the Video.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@FunAssFunProductions - 1) It's not my job to clarify your statement for you, you should take it upon yourself to be clear. 2) I never said your comment had any relation with the video, I said your comment demeans the original message in this video. 3) Whether or not you were referring to a specific God/religion is irrelevant, my point still stands that many successful people are/were shaped by their religious beliefs. Which is why I brought up Ghandi, and I can also list MLK and Malcolm X also.
theOrator84 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 I'm simply saying that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a good person that's it. It doesn't matter if your religious or not. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic or Scientologist you can still be a good person. I was simply refuting what MrTitleist said. My comment did include mostly Atheists/Agnostic I included Gandi purposely and I know him not as a Atheist nor Agnostic I know him as a Hindi.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 My statement was not unclear in any sense of my point, I made a point of not including anyone of Abrahamic Faiths. Gandi is a WELL known Hindu and it would be ridiculous to think otherwise, It's almost like asking "Is the pope Catholic?" Also instead of asking me what my point was, You assumed and concluded that I was stating that you can't be religious and be a good person, I'm stating that you don't have to believe in Yaeweh to be a good person.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@theOrator84 My comment simply said "They did it without God" Not "They did it without a Diva or Higher Power" or "They did it without Shiva" By saying God It is to assume the Monotheistic Religions of Christitianity, Judism, or Islam are being referred to not Buddhism (Which doesn't have any Deities) or Hinduism (Which has a unlimited amount of Personal Deities) Once again it didn't matter if they were religious, It just mattered that they didn't believe in Yaeweh.
FunAssFunProductions 2 weeks ago
@FunAssFunProductions - So looking in that context, my point is anything but moot, you're just ignoring it. Which is fine, because I honestly care as much about your religious views/preference as you do about mine. Having/not having religious beliefs doesn't make either of us bad people. My beef, and it's not just w/ you, are those who insult other peoples' beliefs simply because they're different from yours. As my Mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all.
theOrator84 2 weeks ago

Im not being smart by the way...
xSa7uRN 1 month ago
@xSa7uRN Oh you don't need to clarify that you're not smart. I'm sure we can figure that out all on our own. With the millions of people around the world dying of starvation, I'm sure a god really has time to help this one person finish a race or to help that baseball player hit a grand slam. If there is a god he would not dictate the lives of pety humans like the insecurities of relgious groups would have us believe.

laxguy22655 5 months ago
@laxguy22655 okay, were not assuming God threw ATP into his body magically and then he started running. the credit is all his, but its God's credit for giving us the ability to do the impossible. That is what i believe when i say that God helped. It;s sort of like a reminder that you have the strength to surpass any obstacles, you just have have courage to do it. he didnt give us a limit, he built us so that we can surpass any obstacle if we just tried, and that is what this man did.
MKPAK93 4 months ago
@MKPAK93 If a teacher gave u an extremely hard test, and u study your ass off, going crazy, reading and memorizing every word from your textbook, and then you get an A+. Now is it fair for the teacher to go, "oh im the teacher and im the one who got you studying, so therefore i get all the credit"? HELL NO! He didnt do jack shit, but he gave him the test knowing that his student could pull of an A+ if he tired, and thats exactly what the student did.
MKPAK93 4 months ago
@MKPAK93 also one more thing laxguy22655, if you thought that we thought God physically grabbed his body and pulled him up or spiritually shot glucose into his body then youre wrong. Society tells me that somethings are impossible. God tells me that nothing is impossible, thats how the man got up a succeeded becuase he knew he could do it and nothing or no one was going to tell him that what he's about to do is impossible. Hopefully that clears everything up. :D
MKPAK93 4 months ago
@MKPAK93 Humans are greater then god, and god has never done the "impossible" or even the "possible." The courage came from his will to win and to compete. God has nothing to do with it., however, all it does provide is a false sense of humility, humans are great and powerful beyond measure and really do need to stop attributing anything to a magically "father figure" that doesn't exist.
