I wonder if beachings have anything to do with excessive sound that the whales can't handle from the earth rumbling. Just a thought. I can't see it being magnetic disorientation. If a whale is so desperate or hurting that it wants out of the water, then something is seriously disturbing it. I wonder if earthquake fissures poison the water?
