  • Amen! Very nicely done!

  • That was AWESOME !! I always credited Paul Simon with this, but Bach was the creator of it.....WOW, nice Job !!!

  • lladnekj, I really really enjoyed your playing. I've never heard it done on guitar but liked the beauty and simplicity of it. My husband plays the guitar in the same style. I'm going to ask him to watch your video and learn to play it.

    What is tablature form?

  • @starshine428 This is not from tablature. lladnekj is a friend of mine, a former student actually. He figured this out himself by ear, and as far as I know he hasn't tabbed it out properly yet, though he did try to do it for me. I couldn't figure it out from his "tab," so I just watched this video and got enough from it to figure out a similar, but slightly different arrangement. He is really good at listening to a piece of music and figuring out how to play it on the guitar!

  • @guitmartiman my husband also learns by watching and listening; he doesn't read music. I remember when Dust In the Wind came out, he bought the single, listened to it 6 times and got it. If you're too young to know that song, check it out!

  • This is lovely..thank you for posting. I will share it with my son John, he'll appreciate it also!

  • Do you have it tabbed yet?

  • As a professional choral director with a degree in organ performance, I was shocked to see this arrangement on YT. Once the shock wore off, I was entranced. I love it, it moved me. I hope your spirituality in playing can continue to affect people as it affected me. Congratulations on a fine performance, and a fine acoustic recording as well.

  • That was really nice! Your Taylor gave it some depth.I remember singing that song in HS choir many years ago.

  • One of my favourites. Thanx man!

  • More Christian guilt trip.

Humanity is not responsible for death and disease. It may be culpable in not doing enough to relieve human suffering, but it is not responsible of for the "fallen state of the world" and I didn't kill Jesus.

Stop trying to lay a guilt trip on me and the rest of humanity.

  • Great tune, great arrangement, great guitar. Love that Taylor sound, in the hands of a talented musician.

  • epic

  • Beautiful. I haven't heard this in years (long story). Thank you.

  • Beautiful rendition! Sometimes simplicity speaks louder than a shout.

  • Very nice playing... I think I will sit down and learn for Sept 11 memorial. Thank you for posting.

  • so beautiful! thank you. I'm just in the middle of making a slideshow with the choral version of this set to photos. One of my favourite hymns.

  • Beautiful Brother...Happy Easter and God Bless You

  • I agree with DrugReaper. This is a beautiful Bach passion. If you don't enjoy playing it than we wont' enjoy listening to you play it.

  • absolutely beautiful. i could fall asleep listening, very mellifluous and peaceful.

  • Beautiful. I just learned the name of this hymn as it was sung in the movie Bonhoeffer (who resisted again Hitler). Your version is very pretty. Nice work~

  • great job amazing romantic and sacred

  • Hey Jeff,

Matt Minikus here. Nice job on this song. How's life for you?

  • Praise the Lord! I have tweaked the song a bit since this video and it is much better now. Life is good here, How about for you? It has been awhile.

    God Bless!

  • Thank you for that. I enjoyed it. Do you have the arrangement for that in tablature form?

  • Thank you, Praise the Lord! No I do not have it tabbed, sorry, Hopefully I will get it tabbed some day.

  • Thank you!! Just right for Palm Sunday.

  • I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 29), I played this for Sunday School assembly. Just thought I'd share.

  • This was very beautiful. My kids are working on learning this song on violin, piano and guitar, so it was very nice for them to see this. Thanks for posting it!

  • Love this song, so sacred & touching

  • Beautiful arrangement. Just the thing to listen to at the start of lent.

    God bless!

  • Very nice work and thank you for sharing. Our Music Minister has wanted me to try this but I needed to hear some guitar to work it out.

  • Very pretty.

  • Ah, Bach! Excellent!

  • Very nice man, well done. One of my favorites.

  • The song started out, as you said, in the seventeenth century as a popular song--the melody was then used for a hymn, which became a Lutheran standard, which Bach later arranged.

Art Garfunkel played a Bach recording to Paul Simon, who indeed incorporated most of the melody in his "American Tune" and has credited the tune (incorrectly!) to Bach.

  • Very beautiful! Now I'm going to be humming this song all day! But that's a good thing. Thanks for posting.

  • You are blessed with a wonderful gift and did a awesome job on that piece!

  • Very nice., Thank you for sharing. GBY. Kang47 {*_*}

  • I love this...great work. I really wish I could play like that.

  • Nice pickin... didn't I hear about 30 seconds of Paul Simon's American Tune in there near the end? God also blessed you with a really nice guitar, too... if you want to take fingerstyle to the next level, check YouTube for Tommy Emmanuel videos! :-) Peace...

  • There is a line in here that does sound kinda like American Tune but it is not. This is just my arrangement of an old hymn.

  • It sure does, I re-listened to the old Paul Simon "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" album and I wonder if he adapted that song after that hymn now... a LOT of that song sounds the same... check it out! :-)

Did you get a chance to check out the Tommy Emmanuel vids on YouTube yet? Peace...

  • Well the Music for this song were written by Hanns Hassler in 1601, so I guess Paul Simon may have heard it and said "man that sounds cool" and made a song based on it. Who knows? I have looked at some of Tommy Emmanuel's stuff, that guy knows how to play the guitar!! I don't know if I will be able to keep up with him for a few years!

  • I doubt there is any human being alive today that can keep up with that man on the guitar. Glad you liked the videos... I enjoy them alot myself and have bought 3 of his CDs -- his best is Endless Road if you get a chance to give it a listen... Keep up the good work, thanks for the info on the hymn -- it is interesting to see where Paul Simon "borrowed" that tune! :-)

  • Beautiful rendition and excellent playing...five stars!
