  • So this song was a hit in the US in 1980 but it wasn't released in the UK until 1982. Looks like this video was shot to coincide with the UK release. I wonder if it was ever played on MTV?

  • But baby keep occupying the spaces of lit urbanization and the land. We possess nothing but ourselves.

  • Artists nowadays just don't compare. They'd be all make-up to death, weave, false eye-lid, nails and some ridiculous 6 inch heels. Useless cunts of today recognize real NATURAL beauty (with talent).

  • @fomiz I failed to mention false fucking teeth too. Bitches!

  • This video was probably made in 1981.

  • Fatboy Slim eat your heart out.

  • Oh the 80's memories... :) ahhh...

  • 1:38-1:57 before hot dog vendors wore gloves. Well, so do anyway.

  • Beautiful

  • a total classic i was born in 72 so i was bout 8 when 1980 hit i was around for it all such a wonderful time the 80s was things was a lot less complicated then we will forever have the memories of it thx for sharing this

  • @dektarion Some of those people who grew up in the 80s act like little kids do you know any because I know a few...

  • @aatre05 haha yes i do happy holidays to you and your family

  • wonderful!! thank you very much for sharing, shrine!!!

  • Entertainment USA (TV Series 1985)

  • Fame was a great show & I'm glad to say I watched this great show when they first played it. I love the 80's.

  • how could you not love irene cara? she was dazzling. she was also a great actress. i remember from roots the next generations as well as her own short-lived show. she was also in this movie with tatum o'neal called a certain fury. she sings the theme song, but i guess it will never be released on cd. irene's best acting work was in a maya angelou movie called sister, sister where she broke my heart when she said: it's awful growing up in a house where you're disliked. i knew her story.

  • She was fresh and great. Voice and looks. And all downhill after this. Feels bad, since she could have another Gloria Gaynor/Estefan. But not. Shame on the producers and the team. I would have liked to hear her in big songs and on big stadiums.

  • amazing movie, amazing song, lackluster music video

  • This was junior year in high school for me...yikes!

  • One of the classics...

  • One Of Best In The 80s

Respect And Lovely From Russian !

  • Nothing better to start the eighties than with this song...MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel¡¡¡¡

  • how many money spent for making this video? haha... amazing song =)

  • Damn I miss thing song soooooooo much...

  • belter of a tune

  • The Hangover! lmbo

  • good ole irene cara knew how to jam, i think her beauty was under-estimated, i wonder what she does now?????

  • Beyonce, Rihanna, or Keri Hilson have nothing on the women of the 80's and early 90's. Irene Cara, Laura Branigan, Celine Dion, and Whitney Houston have some of the greatest voices of all time and don't have to reveal half their bodies to prove it. Thumbs up if you agree

  • @atmchickluva ..have nothing..?? I understand that song like this created the music history and I agree that Whitney Houston is one of the rare voices 4ever ever..but Beyonce is the greatest performer and singer, which walk on this surface for all time. A role model for millions people all over the world. That´s why they call her queen..and her live performance is experience of a lifetime. In fact for all listeners music is good and bad..but you cannot collate present and the past.

  • @kocouRrr1 I respect your opinion, but I must say that Beyonce doesnt have the range that the other artists that I mention do. When Beyonce sings it songs like she is yelling during a marching band. I do agree she is a great talent but there is a difference between being a entertainer and a being a true songstress. Kelly Clarkson is a better singer than Beyonce IMHO.

  • Naturi Naughton New one luv that one1

  • She's obviously lip-syncing to the single version.

  • The original!!

  • is this the actual video

  • @juliet24440 lol sadly i think it is. This was before MtV so Video's werent mainstream yet.

  • Amazing song! Wish the audio & video quality was better though.

  • latina descendant talent

  • FAB!!!

  • wow i was thinking this was the streets of New York CIty but isn't the BBC over in England? It has to be. And you can tell it's from an original tape.

  • This from a BBC airing of the video. They're allowed to show American videos there.

  • This was filmed in the early 80's in NYC Times Square.

  • the movie was so depressing. The poverty and the f word being mentioned 75 times not to mention the music was good but great beats all the same.

  • this has such a wicked sound to it. She was 19 here and became a singer actress producer dancer all within her 1980 debut

  • Fucking awesome!

  • i was born in 86 i love oldies...best music ever

  • F*#c ur Sexy!! lol.. yeeahhhh.! and can sing like an a mothaf**# too.!

  • yeh she was hot and not artificial i wish everyone was like 70's- early 80's chicks

  • yeah she was hot

  • Nobody sings this like Irene Cara. Period!!!

  • So Old school.

  • I don't care who sings this song for the new version: NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE can compare it to those sassy soulful vocals of Inrene Cara. I don't care what ANYBODY says!! As for this new film version, people forget that it caputered a time in music , the story of a city, NY and of a school that not many outside those who aspired in the arts had ever heard of. Those were the ingriedients that made it so successfull & timeless.

  • I sometimes feel i was born in the wrong era. As much as i love the pop songs of the 90s i still love 80s music even though i was born in 86. Lol. Fame is a great movie i'd love to see the new one in the cinema hopefully soon!

  • lol..I thought I was the only person who felt like that..I was born in the same year too

  • hahah i was born in 86 too :) i like the good mix too :)

i bought the dvd of the old fame movie one yeahr agoo i luv it :)

  • New song should be better: but no one compares to Irene Cara

  • LOVE THIS SONG...GO SEE FAME

  • the new one looks beyond horrendous!!!

  • LOL, SilverShields, U are soooooooooooooooooooooo right on!

  • A great song! Irene is so good

  • This song is so amazing. It really deserves a better video. It looks like they filmed this video in a half hour. The funny thing is they credit so many people at the end. It took all those people to make this video?

  • This video is taken from the UK channel UK Gold, you can see the gold block in the corner of the screen...it is from a Top of the Pops programme from 1982 and the credits are for the whole episode..not the Fame video. Hope this clears up your question!

  • great song!

  • i absolutely LOVE this song...but the video is terrible!!! lol

  • the video looks a bit dated.

  • omg we are dancin 2 dis in our dance show!! can't wait to get my clothes!!!!

  • have listen to the funky freakz remix. it's perfect for partys today!! very good!

  • TOTP!

  • I LOVE this song. I attended a Performing Arts School so I relate to this song! Irene Cara is so talented!! Thanks for sharing this video. FABULOUS 1980'S VIDEO!

  • Fame (1980), awesome post-disco pre-new wave dance pop.

  • i was born in 83.....soo ragin i missed this...but it seems its coming bak!!!

80's fever!!! the funk!!! the colours!! the gay-ness....am lovin it:P

  • Great tune. Damn she was cute.

  • Great song; hope the New Yorkers weren't too put out :-)

  • That's a quite beautiful song.

  • I'm stuck in the 80's totally choice

  • You can't win. Bus just comes for you on time.

  • i love this song! i love songs from 80's and 90's where life was more simple. not a lot of music today is really meaningful nowadays. that funny part is that i'm still a teenager. :D i love singing this song on the karaoke. lol.

  • "I wanna live forever, I wanna learn how to fly"

such catchy lyrics, ive not heard this song in about 5 years yet i still remember these lyrics!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG me and my friend are dancing to this in our school talent show... we will be doing gymnastic moves as well as dancing...AMAZING SONG!!! LOVE IT

  • The simpler the times were back then . not the greatest video, but this was a early time for videos. She was real cute and still is on top of being a great singer. i saw her in coney island at the free concerts they give and she tore it up. Everyone was having a great time and then we forgot what made us great in that time. now we have war, racism, high gas , etc. forget a new direction, i will settle for this time again.

  • Times Square NYC 1980's

  • Irene showed pure hart being on the streets with everybody else in NewYork City.Real 80s here.Nobody will ever do this today......

  • Great song

  • Det er SPELT sangen, joo x)

  • jepp, det er det x)

  • i love all the comments i saw on this page .. at this moment.. everyone loving the 80s.. i love the 80s too and god to go back in time.. id be so happy.. shame on kids today thinking the 80s are shitty.

  • hell ya i love the 70s and 80s wtc us up and the cars rock.

  • all i know is that I see the way people interact together !there is not such a thing of pure love a child would know that !but what I see is that more information from internet is good on one hand but brings confusion as anyone believe anything they hear !too many informations does not make it better ! & now there is more people on earth & some have no thing to eat !I can see how people are agressive !!!before !it is even a good thing for some to be that way like a sign of strenght!its a fashion

  • afro

  • Love this song!!!

  • its painfull to see how i miss the eighties !ignorance is bliss !today is pure hatred everywhere !i try not to be conditionned in my living from those vibes but only a woman & a man loving each others can fight that feeling!love fame pure happyness & hope for all & I was in USA san francisco then!

  • Yes, back in the 80s, there was only love. Cold war - what's that? Man, wake up

  • god, the 80's were great!

  • Yes, the 80's were really cool

  • it´s real, naturel and absolutly not fake..

    it´s lovely

most pf the musicvideo´s are fake this is not!!

  • Why is everything being so mean about this? I absolutely love it. It was not made as a proper music video. It was something made by (I think) a BBC news crew stationed in New York with no budget. It's real and natural.

  • what dick heads some people are..irene cara was alreday a well astablished name before fame hit the cinema

  • she didn't need to make a name. Fame propelled her to superstardom. I bet she made millions. Besides she was super hott!!!!

  • look at 1:17... uuuppss xD

  • Did I miss something?

  • Plus remember, computers hadn't even been invented back then .. the whole video had to be hand drawn by really really REALLY fast artists. That's how good she is to reign and rule in a colorized hand drawn music video powered by Proctor and Gamble.

  • "computers hadn't been invented then"... sigh...

  • lol i gettit

  • Never knew of this video, thanks for the posting.

  • don't be so hard guys. it was a last minute thing done for "tops of pops" in the u.k.

it was so rushed that years later she said that she didn't even remember doing it. since videos were in their infancy, they used the "street dancing" scene for the "official" video. i agree that the song deserved a concept video of high quality. ahhh...that was a missed opportunity.

  • wij heeben dit met muziek

  • Campbell Scot, youre right ;)

    I LOVE THIS SONG

    Its with my video's

  • yeah...this video SUCKS. The song is amazing, but the video is just boring and uninspired...after the scene in the movie with kids pouring out of the school and dancing all over cars...this video makes little sense...she's getting a hot dog for pete's sake...it's almost like it was supposed to be just a run through...not filmed. cuz its' bad. :)

  • I don't know why but I hate the 80s. Though not all of the music but all of the clothes.

  • Nice song

The video is stupid and boring, but the song great.

    Thanks

  • love it ;]

  • Yes... The best musical, me encanta

  • saturday night fever, and its only tuesday!

  • i went to see fame in the west end and this is no doubt the best song in the show!

  • ive seen it

    it was absoultly fantastic

  • 俺もこの歌大好き!!

  • remember,remember!!

  • Classic moroder disco.

  • Actually, it's LATE 70smusic, folks...it was RELEASED in very early 1980.

  • Times Square NYC 1980's.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • She was Rude to that hotdog guy! I lost all respect for her there!

  • Is she still acting/singing now?

  • Yes, she formed an all girl band called "Hot Carmel" about three or four years ago. I'm not sure about her acting career, though.

  • She was so gorgeous

  • Its 80's music, why is so cool, especially the chorus, and im singing it in ma lessons too XD

  • lol im singing this song 4 ma singin lessonsXD

  • Merci pour ce bon souvenir !! SUPER.

  • rvpstudios, you balintly think you are the bees knees. get a buzz, this video is great. you can't exactly do any better back then so shut you face and appreciate insted of moaning! god some people!! good video <3

  • im 10 and i love this music! its better than hip hop and pop thats all phoney this is real music!

  • this video would be a lot better if she was just running into like restrants and cafes and stuff and just dancing on the tables, then people should join in and by the end there would be loads of people...that would be cool

  • She could be singing in front of a blank background with no clothes on and it would still be a great video (even better actually).

  • Cool,Times Square in the 80's.

  • hey rvpstudios ofcourse the vidoe is bad quality because back then tv was not that advanced

  • This video is REALLY BAD!!!! The producer who did this should be FIRED! They should have had more action in it, instead of her just singing and swaying to the music. It is something that anyone could have done. I am VERY SURPRISED that being on t.v. and a hit movie, they didn't use or have the budget to do a better quality job on the video. Hire more dancers, get people coming out of the school and dance! Do different scenes! I guess it is 30 years too late for me to complain about it now!

  • she rocks

  • Awsome

  • 1982, when simply singing your heart out and looking your age was enough...alas...

  • the queen of disco

  • I thought the Hotdog guy was going to bust out dancing..

  • That would've been sweet!
