Excuse but that is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. Without learning the knowledge of scales, you'll have no idea how to create them and most importantly how to use them when improvising. Especially with modes. Each mode goes specifically under a 7th chord. So what are you talking about? You must not want to be a real advanced guitarist because all professional guitarist recommend learning music theory.

Actually Jeff does know theory. He stated that when he was younger, he picked up a book on scales, which will contain the theory behind the scales, and he learned it.
Plus listen to his music, without knowledge of theory he wouldn't have that music because everything would be random without knowledge of theory. All the professional guitarist know some of theory, that is what I'm basing my statement off of. Jason Becker and Marty Friedman knew some theory also.

Professional guitarist doesn't have to be virtuoso and know a lot of theory. Virtuosos are often sitting in their homes and can't do even some carrier. Beb has a very unique way of tapping and it sounds very smooth and clean, but for my money Stanley Jordan is the top dog.

I always found most Satriani stuff to be pretty boring and predictable. Most of his stuff sounds the same to me that i've heard.

well you know how i feel about becker and yngwie LOL but seriously, its interesting how some people find certain styles predictable when they aren't and vice versa, i know people who dont even like guitar and think everything is predictable so..yeah, interesting way the brain works eh!

Yea... no point anyone arguing over music in my opinion, since it's all subjective.
On a forum i go to here were some people arguing over how the Phrygian Mode sounds. One person said it sounded Middle Eastern to them but then this other guy got all pissy about how it is from Spain originally. Once again it's subjective. Makes for some good lolz though when reading it.

He's really not a tapper. When you think of Jason Becker, you don't think of tapping. If anything, you think of sweeping. I think his comment wasn't cocky it's just in his mind he knows there's better tappers out there in the world. He's a sweeper and a shredder way before a tapper.
