why make it round and not square? would be easier to cut

Square cuts have corners that catch. The round design makes the plug stronger and the template that comes with it makes it VERY EASY and fast to install. The round cut is pretty simple to make. Plugging a hole takes less than 5 minutes after you have done one. Less than 10 minutes if it is your first time. This is the easiest and ONLY drywall repair product that any level of skill can install. So easy, high school kids can fix a hole in the wall before their parents get home! :)

@apicecream one thing you missed is that my fist is three times as big as that hole. now the hole is pretty big. idk how to fix it.
