  • Yeah... that's actually common Neph behavior. He's not very concerned with reality, he seems to be under the impression that every choice he ever makes is the "best" or only choice.

Except for when he hit his boss and got fired. He had to lie about it and say he was fired for "not being a brown noser" or something like that.

  • So what av software would you recommend?

  • @Maxdwolf

Its been 5 months, but I'd recommended Avira. I'm told that's what the government uses, and I've had the least problems with it by comparison.

  • I have a hate hate relationship with Norton, but see sites like ICSA labs, West Coast Labs, Virus Bulletin VB 100% certification, AV-Comparatives for benchmarking. I was thinking about compiling a vid, but I've been lazy.

Norton antivirus 10 on PC world ranks at #2 but not because of virus protection, but because of ease of use and other features. "...but those willing to deal with a less-refined interface can get stronger protection." take with a grain of salt, but still.

Now Norton's flaws isn't so much it's lackluster virus detection, a poor ratio of bulk and system drag to performance, it's lack of stability and failure to include a proper uninstall sequence (see wiki). It's main issue is it doesn't play well with other programs, even other Symantec most notable is Winfax pro.

Symantec is an old school company which buys other technologies by the bucketload, but fails to understand them (See Desqview on wiki). Interoperability was a non issue...

  • ...issue in the dos days, but positively vital.

Bang for the buck, one's better off with a free anti-virus solution. Avast, AVG, Avira. Pay solutions, Kaspersky's, Bitdefender, or hell G-Data (AVK) with both AVG and now Bitdefender's scan engine.

The only evidence that Norton detects more viruses is perhaps with false positives, and even then I think Panda beats NAV. The ONLY reason to run NAV IMHO is ease of use, and even then past products have been bug ridden pieces of filth.

  • Amen about Norton: Norton is to computers, what AIDS is to people.

I have spyware doctor-its bigger than all of mac-dom

  • Neph is just a crazy person.

  • Oh that is hilarious. And woot first post
