He (Chamberlain) threw away 40 well trained divisions, lot of tanks and about 900 airplanes of a state that is on opposite side of Germany. That means war on two fronts. At that time hitler's army was not strong enough and was highly overestimated and could have easily been defeaten by great britain, france, and the Soviets who vowed to back them. by appeasing Hitler and giving him sudeten, this allowed him to build his military forces up, as well asl place them inside the czech border.

As a New Zealander, we werent just an ally. We were one with Britain in those days. That includes Canada and Australia. Britain took on force of the axies, and their access to the resources of mainland Europe, for over a year by themselves. The Soviets were the one that won the war though.

You really think the United States put Germany in the history books? The U.S. had nothing to do with anything in WW2 until Dec 7th 1941. Germany and those other countries had long made history before then. Not to mention the U.S.S.R-Finland conflict which was making history and had less then nothing to do with the United Snakes.

He (Chamberlain) threw away 40 well trained divisions, lot of tanks and about 900 airplanes of a state that is on opposite side of Germany. That means war on two fronts. Is sacrificing this advantage worth having a little more Spitfires and Hurricanes? I dont think so.

Chamberlain was only continuing a long policy of appeasement implemented by previous British leaders and other European states. Not only did he wish to avoid conflict, which is nothing to be criticised for, but his delaying of war in 1938 ultimately allowed the British another year of rearmament which proved invaluable.
Tens of millions of lives were lost in World War Two purely because of Hitler and the Nazis, not any British Prime Minister.

Czech factory Skoda Works in Sudetenland was the 2nd biggest manufacturer of arms (Panzer tanks) in Europe. Hitler wanted it very badly and covard Chamberlain gave it to him to appease him. So Hitler could start the WW2 straight away.

NC didn't GIVE Czechoslovakia to AH, he wouldn't have the authority to do that. He persuaded Monsuier Deladier and Benes (the Czech Prime Minister)to hand over the territory. Let's not forget, Deladier agreed to it just as readily, so you can't pin all the balme on Chamberlain. Also don't forget that there has to be a point, believe it or not, where you blame Hitler for the war, or am I missing something?

At that time hitler's army was not strong enough and was highly overestimated and could have easily been defeaten by great britain, france, and the Soviets who vowed to back them. by appeasing Hitler and giving him sudeten, this allowed him to build his military forces up, as well asl place them inside the czech border.

As a New Zealander, we werent just an ally. We were one with Britain in those days. That includes Canada and Australia. Britain took on force of the axies, and their access to the resources of mainland Europe, for over a year by themselves. The Soviets were the one that won the war though.

Our economy was ruined after world war one, America and Germany were both standardised throughout and were charging high tariffs, Europe could not afford another war. The Canadian and Australian troops did indeed support Britain and god bless them, but could not send much aid until 1941. America did not go on the offensive against Germany until the end 1941. They supported Britain with aid prior to this. France fell 1940. Britain stood alone for well over a year. SO don't give me if it wasn't for America...

All those counttries didnt throw Czechoslovakia to Hitler and all those countries didnt sell us just to save their asses. Do you know how that we had one of the best fortress systems in Europe all over the German borders, it was leave without fighting because we wouldn´t stand a chance agaisnt 5 milion mobilized German soldiers on border. Get your facts right vacinty75. First of all, Chamberlain was a Tory, which is a right wing Government. Secondly, you have to really understand Chamberlain's motives before you can start criticising him of anything. I don't necessarily agree with what he did, but I understand why he did it. I am a history student, I know all the PMs from Disraeli to Brown, have written a dozen essays on Hitler's foreign policy and have even played Chamberlain in a mock conference in our history debate.

Its so easy with hindsight to judge Chamberlain but some have been pretty harsh. if nothing else he bought Britain time to re-arm itself. Churchill later praised Chamberlain for all his efforts for peace. The horrors of the Great war were to be avoided but not at any cost. The British are an honourable and strong nation. We did what we thought was right and honourable at the time. We need men like churchill and chamberlain now.

Wrong, the only reason they were an "ally" was to hold Germany down, it wasn't done out of love, you are so naive. Britain didn't give a damn about the Polish people, they used it as an excuse because they hated Germany, that's what motivates real political decisions, not this cutesy sharing and caring nonsense.
And who is the coward? At the end of the war the British let the Soviets enslave the Poles under Communism, sounds cowardly to me.

Why didn't Britain and France declared war on Russia when the Soviets invaded Poland 2 weeks after Germany did? Because Britain and France really weren't protecting Poland, they were looking for an excuse to make war with Germany.

Caesar XXIV continued--Thirdly, it would have been stupid of Britain to declare war on 2 of Europe's greatest powers. The hope that the USSR would enter the war on Britain's side was one of the possible strategies to victory. Britain does not go to war if absolute and complete victory is not what is being aimed for. From September 1939, Britain was out to destroy Nazi Germany. America and the USSR were vital strategic considerations in the accomplishment of that goal.

We wasn't great allies where if they was attacked by anybody then we would help, it was just that we had a written document/statement that if germany attacked we would help, we didnt say we would help if any other country attacked.

because its not like the USSR and Nazi Germany were gonna work together. The pact was merely to put off war, as they both knew they were going to war with each other. Also, Nazi Germany seemed more powerful and imperialistic than Russia, and Russia wasn't engaged in persecution of innocent jews in the magnitude of nazis.

First of all, Germany had conquered half of Poland 2 weeks before Russian invaded. In other words, Hitler's conquest was a fait accompli, and Russia's occupation of the Eastern third could be seen as preventing Hitler from taking it all. Secondly, Stalin only took back the territory Marshall Pilsudski had grabbed from the USSR with French help in 1921. This was territory east of the Curzon line which the League of Nations had said in 1919 rightly belonged to the USSR.

Everyone knew the soviets hated the Germans, it was only a matter of time before one side invaded the other, heck, I bet there was a bit of 'friendly' firing on the front line between then Nazis and Soviets.

Learn you history.. Stalin wanted to rule the world WITH Hitler. Nazis HATED slavs and thats the only reason Germany ever invaded the USSR. The Soviets were disieved by Hitler's false promises and ofcrose thats why they weren't prepared for the invasion.
