Some songs just don't get played live for personal reasons. I spoke with Geoff a few months back and he told me that Asleep In The Chapel has NEVER been played live. I wanted to know why in the worst way...but I didn't ask. I felt it was better to just let it be.

i swear on the 2004 tour with thrice and coheed they played it in phoenix when i saw them. i wish people back then would have videotaped concerts.. this is my favorite song. and i would have been pissed if they had not played it then, so im sure they did play it back in the day
Supposedly this song is about how Geoff and a girlfriend of his had differing views on abortion and the argument tore their relationship apart. I'm assuming that's why he's not going into any specifics in this video, and why they never play it live; it's one of their only "personal" songs. Also, the line in the song "The Lovesong Writer" that goes "The songs that he writes are too personal, he can't play them for anyone" could very well refer to this song or songs of this nature.
