Everything we think about robots now is obsolete. I think robots will be totally different than any concept we have now. Nanotech, modular multiform systems, and other technologies will produce whole new forms of Robot. But I guess we will see, eh?
I must say, this compilation is great! Work is being quickly outsourced - either to poor countries or to machines. But the Chinese won't be making our things forever, nor will any country. What will happen is robots will progressively be able to do more tasks, better, and for lower cost.
Technology is permanently changing everything for humanity at dizzying rate, and it sure is an interesting time to be alive.
I still don't think we're there yet. We need very solid AI, far better than what you showed here. Because The jobs needed to move the world around are EXTREMELY complex. For example, mining, the job of an electrician or that of a plumber. Robots can't do that YET. Once the Robts will have high level AI to match the intenelligence of humans thats when we can have RBE
@screenflicker1 People would still work in an RBE. Of course when we get to the technological singularity where robots are building robots smarter than themselves, then people will no longer have to work.
The concept of an RBE reduces the amount of work required drastically, but it does not eliminate it yet.
@screenflicker1 There is a distinction between AI and automation. Automation does not mimic human intellingence cause that's highly indesirable. An automation system is a basically a system which responds in accordance to sensory intput which attributes to it's function. An application of such is in maglev trains which needs to balance magnetic repulsion and attraction to stay without friction and to accelerate. There is practically millions of applications for it already in our everyday lives.
@screenflicker1 I am looking forward to the next stage of this. We could potentially go into a government structure unlike any every brought before. A society of machines doing the manual labor and the humans designing that benefit everyone. Venus project here we come.
@screenflicker1 AI is not needed at all for a RBE, and the technology we currently possess is more than capable of handling the tasks required for an automated system. Your examples fail to realize that all systems must be designed with the intention of automation built right in. Also, you must ask yourself what it is that a plumber or electrician do, and then ask what they're needed for, couldn't a plumbing system be designed without needing repair? BTW, robots can and do those now no problem
@screenflicker1 A RBE does not particularly mean that everything we humans do or can do is automized. A RBE would work with the present state of technology because we can automate enough to give us much more freedom to do the more complex tasks that are not automated yet with much, much less stress and sense of obligation. We do have the technology to automate much of the basic human needs like food production.
@screenflicker1 I do not believe that AI will ever achieve true sentience. Currently, they are not even near the capability of a of a 3yo child. In regards to your comment I agree (except for mining), IMO something that might help would be "standardization". If all homes, plumbing, electric, etc were identical, it would be much easier for automated maintenance. I know farms have autonomous computer/GPS enabled harvesters. Similar tech could be partially utilized by the mining sector.

combine these techniques and u`ll have no humas in the gastronomy. So far.. we cant replace the most jobs.. ;)
Nobody would need to do these boring jobs ^^

@koberask please explain how that hardly matters? Who'd do our mining for example, from where we get our resources

@screenflicker1 There are AI robots keep watching the other parts. Research Honda's Asimo A.I. Robot

@RBEconcepts yeah, i am aware of Asimo. My answer is the same, we're not there yet
