  • It's funny to hear folks call this junk without hands-on. I bought the gigabit version of this board (the cheaper version was only 10/100) for 3900 yen in Fukuoka, Japan two years ago. I put a Celeron 430 (Conroe L, like half of a Core-2 duo, only 1 core) on it for using (64 bit only) Server 2008R2 with 1 stick of low-profile 2GB DDR2 800MHz ram. CPU cost 2000 yen. My Hitachi Sata 2 (3Gb/s) 2TB drive cost just over 12,000 yen. Total cost was under $220 U.S. w/cheapo case. Still runs 24/7/365.

  • Foxconn is trash

    ...I would know :'(

  • junk

  • ROFL 1 RAM SLOT LOLOLOL

  • this should have been a retro unboxing

  • I guess for this board we do have to use the drivers that come with it.

  • i have a question,,, can i remove a ssd or a hdd when the pc is still on ??

    please answer...

  • @schabadas1 No

  • @MrBoxfacetramp13 actually you can. If the mobo supports hot swap

  • @schabadas1 True but im going on the knowledge that you didnt know that you could that they werent hotswap

  • @MrBoxfacetramp13 yeah thank you very much, i really appreciate the help. I made this comment 1 year ago when i didnt know much about computer.

  • @schabadas1 Yeah no problem. Quite a surprise how quickly you can learn stuff about computers ;]

  • @MrBoxfacetramp13 and i am 16 years old. I have a lot of things to learn yet!

  • Foxconn g41mxe thats betteer then this g41s-k

  • Foxconn g41mxe thats betteer than this g41s-k

  • Beside what the sticker says, this is mini-DTX form factor not mATX.

  • that is not interesting mobo.

  • @LinusTechTips does this support 2gb ddr3 1333 single module from corsair?

  • @MsiEvgaAsusGigabyte ddr2 only.

  • does this support 2gb ddr3 1333 single module from corsair?

  • Yay you got something to Smash! ;P

  • God damn nerds fighting over Motherboards, There are still people with Windows 98SE, Slot 1 Pentium II motherboards with 128mb of ram, SCSI 8.2 gb HDD, and they think that fast. (glad thats not me!)

  • this would be a great home server board to house your "super ancient LGA 775 q6600" but - 2 sata 2 ports - fail! its a good idea to saye your lga 775 core 2 duo or quad and put it in a mini itx board with 4 or more sata ports!

  • the mini itx board has all solid caps :)

  • LGA 775 IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @computerhacker013 yea true that! ahh i miss 2008: gtx 260s, nvidia intel based mobos (i had the 790i), and ddr2 and who could forget; the q6600

  • @Georgefromaccounting still have a Q6600! It was awesome 6 months ag now its....well....terrible....lol

  • @computerhacker013 not really lol the i7s just make it look obselete! I'm saving up about $2000 for a core i7 workstation with duel moniters :P

  • @computerhacker013 My Q9550 at 4.12GHz would beg to differ. LGA 775 is not really dead. I have a spare E8400 that I can turn into an HTPC with this cute little motherboard right here. LONG LIVE LGA 775

  • @RofIStomper I am going to smack you

  • @computerhacker013 PoopiePants!

  • 4 GB in that slot

  • @abeemanator wow better than my old dual Pentium II Xeon Motherboard with 8 RDRAM Slots!

  • Personally I prefer the Gigabyte G31M-ES2L over this board.

  • ooooh 2 pcie slots cant wait to see some better 1156 "matx" boards like this but ablr to fit in some of the itx cases

  • Mini ITX board has more ram slots lolz.

  • doesn't foxconn make the iphones? Linus be careful how you hold this

  • Foxconn sucks

  • @4ourTimber They're decent

  • am gonna build a basic computer for my mother, so am looking for a basic motherboard

  • Interesting looking board. G31/G41 chipsets are fine for budget systems - I've done two builds with that chipset. And, the size of this board makes it preferable to a more expensive ITX board for a SFF build

  • I dont think this is mATX... hmm MY mATX seem to be longer

  • @YzuKe

    it's baby AT

  • @YzuKe you're probably right as mATX should be about 24,4x24,4 cm while mini itx is 17x17 cm. This one is probably smaller than mATX but not enough to enter the Mini Itx format.

  • throw in a q9650 oc to 4.0ghz with a 5970 overclocked a single 4gb 1200mhz dimm overclocked....all watercooled....lol.

  • @PCTechTalks oh and dont forget a raid card in the pci slot with 2 256gb ssds in raid.

  • you didn't mentioned that we should not use the driver CD and download the latest drivers . . :)

  • it does support 4gb of ram

  • Linus, that's 5.1 channel audio, not 7.1...

I'm picking up this board hopefully tomorrow in Markham, this video just made me feel better about my choice. Linus, do your research before filming please :P :)

  • Linus, 6 channel audio = 5.1 audio

    3x3.5mm audio ports = 5.1 audio

  • i love your job linus..

  • really good for a home theater pc :) install a 5770 add cheaper ram and slow cpu connect with hdmi simple case and maybe a 32gb onyx ssd and ur set!

  • it's still able to play crysis...

  • Compare it to the mainboard you unboxed a few time ago.

    It was XL-ATX. ^^

  • nice, more like this..

  • Odd time to unbox this. I just purchased an ASUS P5G41-M LX2 mobo to put all my spare parts to work (finally). Coincidence? I think not!

  • you missed the fact it has an HDMI header next the the digital audio - to put sound through the HDMI port on the graphics card

  • so... the mini itx board has more ram channels? :\

  • only one ddr slot?

  • it's made by a slave in China

  • @brian831114 WHAT isn't now-days......

  • Linus, finish off the videos that you said you were going to do with the H55N-USB3 (the mitx board in the video). =D

  • Hey Man! When we will se some CFX vs SLi match?

  • Oh actually It has only 1 DIMM :))

  • you could fit that into the sugo 5, 6, and 7. how does that qualify as micro ATX?

  • Does it support dual or triple channel ram?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrDucktaper quad channel, with four dimms per channel

  • @InternetSandman Good to know, for massive damage :D

  • mas nindot pa ang GIGBYTE ui bati nang foxconn

  • OH MY GOD!

Linus didnt say "dont use this download the latest drivers off the website"

  • @koop21 I bet it's because this socket is so outdated that he wants to spite all those who buy it >;D

  • Hey linus, where u put u'r camera..on u'r shirt?

    LOL

  • Just in case no body knows this Foxconn makes all the components for Asus and Gigabyte and Msi And the iphone and the ps3/xbox

  • Thumbs up if you think this is an old Asus board that Asus no longer wanted and the cheap asses at Foxconn didn't want to lose any money.

  • What's the point of putting together a budget foxconn system ?

You may as well buy a dell ... you get the same hardware LOL

Looking at boards lately, my two favs are either Asus or Gigabyte ,

Gigabyte's been coming out with some impressive boards lately.

And I use to be set on Intel's but right now, with AMD's you can get more processor for the money; they've been impressive.

My last build was an Asus w/ AMD and DDR3, and it f*#!'ing flys!

My next build, I swear I'm gonna try Gigabyte ;)

  • @SysAdmin86851 - Tell me what you think, my next build I'll probably go for AMD, as when you're a teen as I am, you tend to want to get as much bang for buck, or bang for sterling in my case :P

I'm still sitting on the fence of whether to go for ASUS with re-assurance of EZFlash and my comfortable use with ASUS boards, or go for the Gigabyte's which look a little better on the AMD side.

  • @AmH032uTuBe I don't think you'd go wrong either way, Asus has great features and their hardware is good quality, so is Gigabyte & about same prices; even the pc's I built with inexpensive Asus boards performed well & reliably. I'll tell ya ,I've put together an AMD w/DDR3 that out-performed my P5Q Turbo w/ Intel & DDR2 & w/ a less expensive board !

Both were 3.0 GHz Dual-cores; if the core i7/5's are out of your price range, I'd go w/ AMD & DDR3 ram ,cuz the 775's don't have hyper transport !

  • Well here's what I've put together: (I'll send you a PM)

  • supports DDR2 800/667/533 x 1 DIMMs, Max 4GB

  • Wow look at all those electrolytic caps....atleast there are solid caps on the CPU. Phew!

  • I don't think I'll be buying foxconn motherboards ever again... For some reason at this point it feels just like buying gasoline from BP

  • @alex14469 Yep I have the same exact feeling. Especially with all the news on the not so good things you hear about foxconn. Plus it kind of defeats the purpose of building a PC imho. Like 99% of OEM boards are foxconn...so...yeah. Good point.

  • @ArmaniDemon you know that most other motherboard companies get their stuff from foxconn right? and most other computer companies such as dell and apple are contract out stuff to foxconn? saying you wont buy foxconn is like saying you wont buy electronics anymore

  • @samwelaye Yes but no. Actually, there isn't that many things coming from Foxconn on your board. All the caps, transistors, resistors, mosfets, etc are generally from other comapnies.

And I am not saying Foxconn can't make a good motherboard. It's just that I don't like their build quality. They can have good components, but maybe not attached very securley. ASUS will put that board together with the precision we want/need in our PCs. And, with Foxconn's social/legal problems, I'd rather not.

  • I kind of like the layout but it needs to move the 4 pin connector so you can put on a big low profile heatsink.

  • fox...conn? wow, never heard of this brand ...

  • no thanks

  • max memory is 4gb

  • manufacturers need to name/label their products better.

micro-atx is almost twice the size of a mini-itx board. this board is pretty much the balance point between the two, mini-dtx... a longer form of mini-itx with an extra slot available.

  • Kinda sucks but I guess it could be good fro some applications.

  • This is an excellent solution for an htpc. Considering the zotac mini atx boards are double the price.

You could have a nice htpc for Under $300 with this board. Lga 775 still has a market for htpc..

You dont need an i5\ or i7 to power and htpc.

  • It's max 4gbs.

  • wth are the SATA ports doing over there lol

  • it says 6 channel audio = 5.1 audio not 7.1

  • Its actually a mini DTX board, not a mATX

  • @ShaTR2 it says matx near the serial 0:20

  • @MJBDC07 yeah but its not. Technically, its 3mm out of spec, but i doubt that would stop it from fitting in any dtx case. For all intensive purposes, its a Mini-DTX board.

  • I Would Like To Build A UMPC with This

  • Foxconn- Making products with broken hopes and dreams, and a couple of suicides along the way. Guaranteed!!

  • this is fantastic for a basic Media Center PC :)

  • Foxconn is a piece of shit company overworking their employees to death.

  • Who's ready for a stiped down board!!

    I wanna see some hands!

  • I don't do Foxconns this ones ok though.

  • My penis is bigger than that!

  • perfect for a htpc :)

  • They forgot to put an Apple logo on it

  • @Amebixfan Amen to the truth

  • oh my gosh if you put a 5970 on here with an e4500 you get200 fps in crysis with this woo hoo

  • Good for a homemade server

  • Are you going to unboxing the MSI 870A-GD60 the one with the Lucid Hydra chipset?

  • @CR9Compilations Yes I will once I can get my hands on it.

  • @LinusTechTips Linus answer this question and you might be able to keep a subscriber...

    THe question is

    GOT MILK??? =)

  • @LinusTechTips Any reason why you don't say the actual price of the product?

  • @minteko yo just google it

  • @LinusTechTips Maybe get some info if their will be a better version of it? because specs say it doesnt work very well

  • Linus if you think that is small and value unbox my motherboard it is a asus p5kpl am se, same features as this motherboard but it has more on it and around the same size . mine is smaller than a a4 sheet of paper length and width

  • 2 x fan controlle at this board

  • Really cheap.... $50..

  • no camera man?

  • SLAP A 5970 IN THIS BAD BOY

  • @manel0319 ew.

  • @manel0319 waste of money as the bus bandwidth will throttle it

  • ewww core 2..... WHY!

  • @laservader1 i have a core 2 duo and its perfectly fine for gaming

  • @mikey9890 but why buy a new one? there are i5 or phenoms?

  • This is actually FlexATX, not mATX.

  • not a solution for anything if u ask me

  • oh and - 4 GB 800/1066/1333 mhz ddr2

  • Is there something like that but for AMD cpu???

  • 0:04 Outseehh?

    LOL!

  • damn that's cheap ! even in the UK omg !

  • I used a super cheap Asrock N68-S Motherboard in my old gaming rig. It was awesome though =D Cost me 25 quid

  • perfect for my next gaming pc

  • @tech2kn0w gaming pc?

  • 6 Channel Audio is not 7.1...it's 5.1 ;-)

  • Where do you get money for all day unboxing video ?!

  • @Shurick92 he gets the parts free from his company, NCIX

  • @Shurick92

they come from ncix where he works

  • @Shurick92 he works for NCIX he just ask is boss and takes stuff from the warehouse

  • Linus, is supports up to 4gb in max. DDR2-800

  • I bet these would be seen in schools

  • I didn't realize how small it was until I saw the ddr2 slot.

  • 富士康...

  • This is smaller than microATX.

  • @Nopiw Nope. Micro-ATX is kind of only the mounting holes' positions.

  • @Greathoof Your comment doesn't make any sense.

btw, this board is 193mm x 173mm, while microATX is 244 mm × 244 mm... go figure

  • @Nopiw I meant that only the mounting holes matter much.

Btw, I can also check wikipedia, and I knew the dimensions of this (not hard to remember if you love these stuffs.)

Also, I checked wikipedia just for this ,and voila!

"The maximum size of a microATX motherboard is 244 mm x 244 mm, but some microATX boards can be as small as 171.45 mm x 171.45 mm." (Deleted imperial sizes)

To be specific, one of us should check the standard of this, if it exists. I'm too lazy now..

  • @Nopiw I found it. Wikipedia, check external links. Page nine(9), 2.1 are the MAXes, and there are no minimums.

Also, you can't make every mobo the same sized. Wouldn't really worth it.

  • my hand is bigger than that

  • By the way, this is a baby ATX, not Micro ATX. Micro is a lot larger.

  • The RAM Slot Looks Huge!

  • @LynxAdvert Haha indeed!

  • Foxconn isn't bad. They have many reliable motherboards. This one is just painful to look at though.

  • foxconn sucks

  • wow that motherboard is small even for micro atx it looks rather small also thats a nice mini itx board the ones ive seen suck yours seems to have a nice amount of features on it none the less i think ill stick to my atx mother board its an asus m4a78 plus in case you were wondering

  • looks like it could fit inside the silverstone sg05 since it has 2 expansion slots

  • Golly, I wish youtube would give me better quality over a shorter amount of time...

  • Why would anyone get this today? Socket 775 is way out of date and socket 775 CPUs are of awful value. This outdated board + an outdated Core 2 Duo costs about the same price as a brand new AM3 board with a Phenom II X3 which performs about the same as that Core 2 Duo, except it would include newer technologies and support DDR3 RAM (which is cheaper and superior to DDR2 RAM) and overall have a FAR better bang-for-your-buck.

  • @PointCarpetMovies Unless you buy a used CPU and a USED Motherboard. LGA 775 actually performs about the same in games as the newest CPU's. . .

  • @PointCarpetMovies i habe a S775 board with DDR3 Ram....

  • what is so specal at this motherboard

  • not worth it

  • What model was that Gigabyte board? Seems like a better idea for HTPC since it has more memory slots.

  • DDR2 800/667/533 x 1 DIMMs, Max 4GB

  • it supports up to 4 gigs of 800/667/553 mhz RAM

in case anyone is wondering, $57.41USD on usncixcom

  • Could anyone here tell me if foxconn is a okey brand but just budget or just is that brand just plain bad ?

  • foxconn hardware is crap. Please dont buy that, ever.

  • @Superspemo foxconn manufacture lots of mobos, including asus .... I think

  • @Superspemo you do kno foxconn provide most components for major brands!

  • @ReplicatorsReformed yes,for apple and so on.BUT,as an motherboard producer it sucks,we have a pc with foxconn board in it,absolutely NO overclocking features, and finding drivers took weeks. Also is the quality really bad .

  • @Superspemo It's the pc builders like Dell that lock out the overclocking features not the motherboard manufacturers. Also why the hell would you be trying to overclock on a board like this, it's just asking for trouble.

  • @killforpie its nt a dell.regular pc.my mum was stupid and paid 400€...
