Yes, this would actually work. I know enough about computers to know that this could happen. However, writing the "virus" would be difficult and would require some understanding of the system on the target computer.

Also, someone would need to install it, meaning that either you must have access to their computer or they must think that the program is something they want. Either way, the entire process is tricky.

The joke here (check the date) is the oversimplification of the process.
