Do you happen to know what the rest of the song is in English? I noticed it only goes up to 3:26 and I'd really like to know what the rest of the song is in English, if that's okay.
Singing aside, the staging and the lighting leaves a lot to be desired. As for less is more way of thinking, even minimalist staging can be effective. Gardiner's dvd is mostly bare stage but great lighting. This version is just bland. (and yes, I have both dvds so I'm not blaming the YT resolution.
Rosemary is indeed excellent!!!!! Outstanding performance, very alive music and made so well, that is relly totally interesting and heartfelt. And the pronounciation is perfect!
This is the performance to DIE FOR. 0_0 (Fortunately, I won't have to do that to have it for myself, only to wait for a month or so... Not sure, though, if I can wait that long.)
It is indeed, matie. ;o) Some reviewers hated the staging, but I think it works quite well in telling of Orpheus' plights. It focuses on the singing actors... and when you have Kasarova as Orphee, you don't need fancy staging to make it work. And Rosemary Joshua is a first rate Eurydice, too. :o)
Exactly. I think she could just stand here doing nothing but singing, and the stage would be hers. (She practically does just that in Zurtich's 'La Clemenza'.)
Indeed! Jon Miller was so lucky she was the Sesto there. That staging of the assassination sequence just wouldn't work without a Sesto with serious charisma. She's got this aura when she's on-stage... you just have to look at her (she did that just walking on to the stage at Dom Sebastien in '06. 4 guys already on-stage, she stalked in so slowly and deliberately that I couldn't see anything else! You catch a glimpse of that in the Cenerentola duet clip with Araiza just before she sings). :o)
Esta obra es la locura!!!! no sé porqué aquí en colombia nunca la han presentado... creo que el día que la pueda oir en un teatro moriré de la emoción

@buffyrules01 Ooops. I must have gotten distracted while adding the subtitle. Have gone back and finished it. Thanks very much for the alert. :o)
