the most simple squid trap: a single block of water. Those things are EVERYWHERE.

@shamus030 I know but with 1 bloc you wont get pack spawn, but I admit it could be a heck lot smaller now, I made this for when squids were rare.

@LukeTyrwhitt Yes but I didn't go and fill each blocs with source water, you can have source blocs "generate" it self

like when you make an infinit source diggind a square of 4 blocs and fill 2 opposit corner with source , the other 2 corner become source too.

That s the same principle.

@TheSilentRefuge01 they spawn like every other mob, when you are in range (not sure if iti's the same as passive mobs) : farther than 24 blocs n closer than 72 blocs if I remember correctly

So on this test world there is no water around anywhere except in that tank, hence the squid have no chioce to spawn in it

I made the same thing on my SMP world over a huge island so I "control" the only water around a large distance.

Hope that was the answer you were looking for.
