  • You need to play louder in the tenor register and softer in the lower register to even out the balance in the sound. The F#3 to G2 and E3 to F#2 in the first movement can be a lot bigger! You're tone is very nice and you have very good rhythm :D A great peformance!

    Thank you for your insight, I will give that a go. Bassoon dynamics can be challanging and in this piece they are so important!

  • @Bassoonandsax It's not that they should be difficult. You need to make (or find if you dont make your own yet) a good reed and a good bocal for YOU. I hear all these people buying all these tremendously expensive bocals because they are shit expensive. But there is a match up of the reed, bocal, bassoon, and player. Everyone is different. You just need to find your perfect match for you.

  • @dirknaderpwnsu AGREE!! And there are some intonation issues, Not ear-wrenching, but they're there. It's just the tendency notes of the bassoon that you need to control better. It's a Fox 240 no? Good vibrato and expression. Technique is good. Those are your strongest points. Cool beans- Good work. ;)

  • Hi Mark, this is really good for your age level. Great musical and artistic shape, I can tell you make this a priority in your playing. However, sometimes it is this same priority that causes you to push flat when increasing in intensity. I'm no bassoon player, but I hear this can be solved by simply changing from an "ah" vowel to an "ee" vowel inside your mouth on the notes that want to be flat. That combined with using lighter and more buoyant air can really help bring these notes to life.

    Thank you very much for your insight. Pitch is a problem I have been tackling alot. different reeds and weather changes can effect this alot and the more I push to stretch my dynamic range the more I have to pay attention to this. Dynamic contrast is key in this work and I have been pushing to find the threshold of each end. I will experiment with the vowel sounds you mentioned.
