the old train executive units are the best running and the longest running units ever made. That new xb series trane might get out of the warranty period with only one compressor change and mabey 2 expansion valve changes. The new r-410a units have realy crappy expansion valves (TXV) they only last about 4-5 years between valve replacements. LONG LIVE THE OLD EXECUTIVE LINE OF UNITS. That old unit would still be running strong even after that new one is in the scrapp pile.
My old house had a o'keefe and merritt (or maybe magic chef...dont ask lol i didnt know they made a/c) central unit which was on it's 23 yr and running when we moved out of the house. Way underpowered though.
I agree with the woman in this video that had the AC for 37 years things were made to last back then, unlike today its all made cheaply in china and your lucky to get more than a few years out if it b4 it dies. if i was this person id keep the old unit even though its not as energy efficient as the new units. my dad has a window AC that he got back in the 80s and it still works great to this day.
@coondogtheman1234 Chinese-built appliances had a reputation for poor quality, thus short life but that is changing to good effect - but American-made ACs still reign in quality!
good I hope quality control gets very strict and the quality of stuff goes up. heck scrap made in china completely, we dont need them to make our stuff America can do it. I've been looking for "Made in USA" on products lately and buying those products. the reason this country is in so much debt is b/c all out money is going to china vs staying here.
@coondogtheman1234 Actually Carrier/Bryant units along with Goodman/Amana are all made i n the USA/Mexico. only Haier/Fedders units are made in china POS.
I'll get an amana or goodman. my parents had a Amana Radarange microwave oven back in the 70s and it is better than the new microwaves you can get for 60-100 bucks or more at walmart. and more powerful for less watts. so old stuff is definitely better. Sharp makes good microwaves made in USA with some imported parts.
Omg, we used to have that same exact unit except the fan grill was badly rusted. It ran from 1971-1998 and was replaced in 1999 with a Bryant. The unit was date Nov. 1970. The old GE furnace was replaced in 1986 with a Rheem.
Interesting Video, I have a customer here that has a GE ac indentical to that one still in operation in a floral shop. Its from , It circa 1968. Love all your videos and the Narration lol
So did my dad except his was manufactured in 1970 and was replaced in 1999 with a Bryant. The houses around my was that was built in 1971-1973 still have those old GEs. My dad still has the old charging chart for the old GE and has a date of Nov. 1970. I believe these units debuted in 1967.
nothing new lasts as long these days Ive replaced compressors in brand new yorks like crazy, and the same goes with cars my brand new Nissan maxima went throgh a tranny @ less than 5000 miles, and my neighbor has an 86 maxima and its got all the original equip and 180k.
if it lasts 3 years with out a call be amazed.

yeah, they want it back to see why it lasted so long so they can make damn sure the new models don't last that long or they'll go out of business

If you read my comments, we had that same exact GE central ac from 1970, but it only lasted 28years. Its the same house with the 1986 Rheem furnace.

Nice, its good to see these old units still running strong. the reason the new units dont last as long as the old units is this:
old units= Made in USA. Quality
new units= Made in china. CRAP
Nuff sed

Some of the houses around my way including where my dad lives that was built between 1971-1973 still have those old GE units and still works.
Vinylrecordsneverdie 2 years ago
So if the old one still worked why did they change it out?
jasonlava 2 years ago
The new one will probably last 7 years.

@burtoncharlessmith you forgot the "3" in front of the "7".

Looks like they gave them the ol' XB13. Standard efficiency level model but still great like all the other Trane systems.
