  • LOVE IT!

  • Can please anybody tell me how effective BJJ on the Street is. I have always been taught Never go to the floor. Thanks.

  • @2006canna I'd say it's useful. Actually, a large portion ( something like 80-90% ) of all fights end up on the ground. If somebody feels they're outweighed in punching/standing strikes, they'll often try and tackle you to the floor. Knowing what to do on the ground is VERY useful. Also, if you're really good at BJJ, you can take somebody down to the floor even if they are a good striker. You MAY eat a punch on the shot, tho. Depends.

  • Helio Gracie looks in his prime there.

  • i know you guys. seeing helio in this video brought tears to my eyes. tough as nails and smart his prolific teaching live as testament that he was a TRUE master. long live gracie bjj.

  • Respect. R.I.P Grand Master Helio.

  • dude looks like clint eastwood badass. R.I.P

  • who were the kids in 07:30?

  • @charlesrmday pretty sure its Rener and Rorion

  • @randywilliams1234 yeah.. i think too... thanks.

  • @randywilliams1234 maybe rener,, but definitly not Rorion no way O.O, Rorion is the first born son of Helio.

  • Respect for Gracie jiu jitsu

  • These guys are awesome. I really miss training, but back problems prove to be a pretty big impediment.

  • Rest In Peace Mr.Helio Gracie. Im still a young fighter but when I get older, I want to be like you. You've taught me discipline and how to execute. From the day I heard your name, I wanted to be a fighter. Of course my age said otherwise but now at the age of 13 I am able to do what you sent me to do. Thank you Helio, thank you so much.

  • i love it...1:55...:D

  • this guy is badass

  • iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii love bjj im in training 4 that

  • Cool ending

  • Borat!

  • SkemensKOS you are greatest idiot on youtube ever!!! for real! you can beat 10.000 oponents at once and they all have weapons haha hihi hoho! greatest joke ever because nobody can and you never been in a real fight! how old are you 12 years!

please shut the fuck up stupid big

  • In reply to the multiple attackers question. There is NO martial art that can consistently & effectively defend against multiple attackers. The stories of taditional MA's doing that is pure fiction. Your best reaction is to get away from the sit.- and GJJ can help you do that physically AND mentally

  • @JJI6881 BULLSHIT!!!

My martial art allows me to beat over 10000 opponents at once.

And they all have weapons too.

Ive never been in a real fight, but I know for a FACT that my martial art can make me beat over 10000 armed opponents.

  • THATS WHERE THE RED BELT IS!

  • How would helio gracie do againts two fighters? ~No doubt the man was amazing but he fought againts one againtst one whereas you heard of martial arts legnds fighting numerous attackers and still won.

  • @slouttop Jiujitsu is for fighting against the bigger man, try beating a linebacker hopped up on crack cocaine with a flurry of punches...it wont work, now try applying a blood choke, it works...however try blood choking 2 people, not so much...thats why it helps to know how to utilise jiujitsu in special situations...u wont hop on mount once u take a guy down when his friend is about to kick u int he face, u throw someone and kick them and back away, try finding a stick or something too...

  • @OffspringFTW65 thts when you do quick kimura to break the first guys shoulder immediately and move to the next xP

  • @slouttop yeah, also one of his brothers, I think Carlos, has a well documented fight against 3 men that tried to mug him or something in brazil, he threw a Kaushesaun (Ear strike) on one, did a push kick strike...I have no clue how do say it, and on the last guy he did a hip toss and when tha thappens on concrete you get injured bad....

  • why he continues to choke after his opponent taps out ?? : /

  • @AtemeRee there's a risk of letting go too early with the referee not noticing the tapout... i guess royce wanted to make it very clear for the ref to see the tap and not let go until the fight was clearly stopped.

  • @LJITLOML Very wrong the reason why he held on to the choke is because he bit Royce ear

during the fight. It was to teach him a lesson never cheat in a fight with no rules.

  • @jojeda11able i thought i saw a few other fights where royce held the choke... maybe it's just me :P haha thanks for the trivia info though :D

  • @jojeda11able but he contintues to choke for more than one opponent ..

  • @jojeda11able

How can you cheat in a fight with no rules???

Anyway, the fact is, he shouldnt have bit Royces ear when Royce had him in a dominant position.

Its STUPID to piss off the guy on top.

Thats why Royce held onto the choke...because Gordeau basically asked for it.

  • Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, and his method's are uncompareable. If someone was charge someone, by going low then would easy get an knee strike to the faces, and then the fight would be over. Wing Chun & JKD was designed not only to be an fighter doing crazy awsome looking moves, but to fight with grace, unlike Graice Jiu-Jitus. That's an another reason why you guys aren't as good as Bruce Lee is, because he had an high level of grace, when he fought on the streets an in his movies & shows as well.

  • Lol, there's a plum in his headset.

  • Essa porra E muito Loca !

  • If a Gracie is talking he is lying.

  • I am a member of Ryan Gracie jiu-jitsu, they have some awesome moves, and i enjoy the challenge very much.!

  • 6:40 is wassup!! haha

  • HELL YAH!

  • Wait a second gracies took all this techniques from KARATE! freaking thieves they are! they took karate techniques and applied "theGay" to it!!!!!!

  • @electronikita

    yea....sure

  • @electronikita And any one of them could kick your ass.

  • karate is gay...there is no practical application to karate besides acting like your "gay"

  • @samnaps1, ... Maybe you should take a second look at karate. This is coming from a BJJ Purple belt.

  • @samnaps1 Ha Karate is Gay huh, o.k fella i started in Karate went to one belt off black, and now study Bjj and MMA i can tell you now with my experience in karate my kicks are stronger and punches more focused, because of the channeling of Karate, even when i spar with kickboxers thier kicking power doesnt compare, (not putting down kickboxing) and electronikita since when does karate have alot of ground submission moves??? you dont know shit.

  • karate = no application ...just fancy moves.....

    karate vs. jiu-jitsu .....jui-jitsu wins

  • @samnaps1 karate is a fabulous art. it works in MMA very well, and is the foundation for modern kickboxing you see today.

From: A BJJ white belt who just earned his first stripe. ;)

  • @samnaps1 you are a nobody, try fight a good goju/wado kuykoshin kai karateka.. every ma has someting to offer

  • @samurai184.....haha nobody..good one.

you sure you took karate???? hard to believe that comment was said if you did. Now see I took karate and jujitsu and I can say that jujitsu has WAY more application than karate, and there are other martial arts that have even more application. Karate is mostly for show because kata is gay and the stances are fucking retarded. Might want to retake karate again ;)

  • @samnaps1 i train bjj, etc also, only say respect other styles also

  • @samurai184 Very true!!.... I never said I didn't respect it, all i said was I don't believe that there is any practical application to karate considering 8 yr olds can get there black belt.

  • @samnaps1 there are some nice street applications with karate. but i dont believe in kata also.

  • I also train bjj, and used to train karate but thats another story ... side note:I know what your comment means but its phrased in a way that it doesn't make any sense.

  • Look at little Rener and Riron right there!

  • Keeping it real !!!

  • THE JAPANESE STYLE DOES NOT EMPHASIZE SPEED AND STRENGTH

  • The best in the BUISSNESS........TY Gracie Familiy

  • Shit Helio looked good there.

His body and soul may have been put to rest, but the spirit and determination of this warrior will never die.

    Rest in peace Helio Gracie.

  • THE GODFATHER OF JIU JITSU RIP FOREVER

  • i respect all types of fighting, but Brazilian jiu jitsu isnt the greatest thing out there in jiu jitsu form...people that are looking into taking it, thats good..but at least look into judo and traditional Japanese jiu jitsu too

  • I wonder if mayatiita ever learnt it?

  • thats brazilian Jiu jitsu!!!

    Thats BRAZIL!!!

  • Gracies ROCK Jiu-Jitsu

  • buuuuuuullllsssshhhheeeet

  • jiu jitsu's the best

  • brazilian jiu-jisu is amazing and clever.

  • You sound like a Pedophile saying you are trying to sell your wrestling style with a story about people grabbing your kids... wtf you people are freaks. Start at 3:06 and listen to him preach why he sells his wrestling style... to help you protect your kids.. wtf?

  • @Preludeboy09 Please go sit in a corner somewhere... seriously.

  • @Preludeboy09 clearly you don't understand what Rener Gracie is saying. He means what if you were mounted by an attacker and that attacker's friend was near by trying to grab or take your child and the only thing between you saving your child is escaping that mount and not, what would you do? Listen to it again. they are not talking about molesting children. And its not wresting, its Gracie Jiu Jitsu.

  • @Preludeboy09 u are such an idiot that was an example. he said "IMAGINE" if someone was kidnapping your kids and someone had you in that position what would you do? ........ you are one of the dumbest person ive ever seen on youtube.

  • @Preludeboy09 I'm going to assume you are a troll and not the complete idiot that you make yourself out to be...

  • @Preludeboy09 you mustnt understand english lad.

  • with im going to get in brazilian jiu jitsu and the school im getting in is gracie barra university in hawaii is that the best school to learn gracie jiu jitsu can somebody please tell me please

  • R.I.P. Helio Gracie

  • Gracie Jiu-Jitsu does not come from traditional Japanese jujitsu...it coems from Judo! Maeda was an expert in Kodokan Judo, which at the time was also known as Kano-ryu Jujitsu, which is based upon leverage and technique, not brute force. Rorion knows better. What the Gracies did was esentially preserve pre-1925 judo and refine it somewhat.

  • Sorry to tell you but you are wrong. Although he was an expert in judo. He did not start training in judo until he was 18. Before that he had training in the traditional japanese jiu jitsu. Meada did challege fights and relised some of the techniques that were discarded by the kodokan that he learned from his early jjj years worked well. He added this to his judo. This what he tought to the gracies. The name of the first jjj he studied was ten-shin shinyo-ryu jiu jitsu.

  • maeda did study trad jj but his fighting ability like everyones was honed through sparring which rarely occurred in jujitsu. The strategies he learned through catch and other challenge matches were added to the judo he taught the gracies.

  • @charliemurphyslaw if you look at that style of jujitsu its nothing like bjj, neither is bjj anything like any other jap jj style.Maeda only had a few years of jj before switching to judo so was by no means an expert in that style plus he was only a kid.Its obvious that bjj derived from a randori heavy style of which judo was the only one at the time, nearly all the classical jj never sparred like they still dont.

  • @billysue2 i never said it looked like BJJ. I said he incorperated some of the things he learned from it into the judo he learned.

  • this must be a well known sport...,my name is gracie, when ever i google my name this always comes up!! haha

  • is it different from brazillian jj

  • @Raiton45 ya its not completely different but there are some differences, thats y its called gracie cause the family gracie add and changed stuff from regular jiu jitsu

  • oh thanks

  • @Raiton45 they're the same as far as I understand, but it is definatly different from jiu jitsu or judo

  • I wonder if my old instructor watches these videos

  • i need to learn This ART NOW!!!

  • me too

  • hey everyone go to my channel page and view the featured video its a great mma and helio gracie tribute you will love it i garuntee

  • Gracie Jiu Jitsu is so effective with such a history it is what the US Army is teaching for hand to Hand combat. RIP Helio Gracie and keep fighting the good fight!

  • Helio is probably putting god in the armbar jk lol

  • @toxjfi its only a part of the program, wrestling boxing and thai are also used.

  • Peace, everyone. Let's try and have some respect. I prefer other arts, and I'm a big fan of Fedor, but I respect the Gracies and their art, particularly because it is very effective and has been innovative in the world of mma. Credit where credit is due, plain and simple.

  • this is for

    sigitemelianenko

apparently you are some ignorant little shit and cant realize a true martial art system that has faced every challanger and has defeated them fedo is nothing compared to helio or any gracie

  • ur nothing compared to fedor.

  • if it wasn't for the gracies, people like Fedor wouldn't exist

  • he might have, mma in the form of shoot comps already existed in japan prior to the first ufc and jap pro wrestling was heading towards mma in some promotions. Also there were unsanctioned mma and shootfighting matches in america before the ufc.I doubt mma would have been as big without rorian starting the promotion though.

  • @sk8pirata fedor never trained bjj in his life. You mean that mma wouldnt exist. The ufc wouldnt probably but there was mma in japan before the ufc with shooto organisation. Also oleg taktarov fought nhb in russia a few months pre ufc 1,its on youtube, look at the date,1993.

  • @billysue2

but UFC started in 1993 also...

  • @skemeB34 and oleg fought several months before it,therefore ufc was not the first vale tudo tournament outside brazil

  • @billysue2

yeah i know. didnt pancrase in japan start before UFC?

  • @skemeB34 pancrase had there first tournament a bout a month or so before ufc 1, I KNOW KEN SHAMROCK WAS ONLY AFTER COMING BACK FROM IT WHEN HE FOUGHT IN THE UFC.Pancrase wasnt MMA though,it had no face punches and no ground and pound and submissions had to be released if you grabbed a rope.Pancrase changed to MMA rules in the late 90sapprox.Shooto was the first MMA organisation from1989.

  • @billysue2

    OK, cool.

  • I train in Torrance, CA with the Gracies. I must say that Gracie JJ is by far the best form of self defense any one could take. Man, woman, child. Doesnt matter. Nothing but love and respect for the Gracies

  • They certainly reintroduced reality into the martial arts world. We should all be grateful for that and yet there's a lot of hatred toward the Gracies. I don't understand that although I wouldn't be surprised if the green-eyed monster had something to do with it.

  • This is very true. If you have no previous knowledge, or even if I was going to raise a kid to be a fighter I'd make sure BJJ was a staple in his regime.

  • RIP Helio Gracie

  • i really need to be in GJJ class, watching GJJ vids is not enough, I've only been accepting challenges and imitating GJJ and it works

  • cool

  • i currently train at GrandMaster Reylson Gracie's Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada and I'll tell you this much, the Gracie's really now their jiu jitsu. I love their respect they have for the students and the instructors. GJJ for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Torrance, CA

  • ll be there within the year! haha

  • I have so much respect for Brazilian Jiu-Jisu! I am going to start learning it.

  • same ;)

  • Same here. I'm going to start this Wednesday.

  • gracie university dot c o m.

i own the DVD set and have been trained formally by one of the best instructors in the country under the Saulo Ribero JJA and still found the DVD's great!!!

  • @mayatiita1 Put credit where it is due. Kosen Judo = Origin of BJJ. Rickson said in his book that the japanese held back on teaching and taught only the basics because they were non-japanese and thus had to learn and evolve the art on their own. Helio did improve it, But he did not invent it. ALL of it is still from Kosen Judo.

watch?v=xjidQQz1yjM&feature=related JIGORO KANO > HIRATA SENSEI

  • @ipyonoti rickson has never written any book nor any media on bjj for that matter. It wasnt anything to do with kosen,it was just straight kodokan judo. The strong emphasis on newaza which became kosen evolved after maeda left japan for europe and america so he couldnt have been teaching kosen(which is basically a ruleset ,not a style outside judo). judo was already in brazil before maeda ,so the idea of not teaching foreigners is bullshit .

  • @mayatiita1 its been a year since you typed that message, have u learned any bjj yet? and if u have how is it? im thinking of starting it too

  • @mayatiita1 did you join a bjj school ?

  • @mayatiita1 How is your training going?

  • @mayatiita1 How is your training going?

  • I'm a little bit new to BJJ , but I head alot about the Gracie's, especialy Royler Gracie . If I want to train under Royler Gracie's academy, where do I have to travel ??

    Thanks in advance

  • molodoychelovek im sorry but you have to do some research on this matter, im with you all the way until you said "hold on", what you must understand is that helio devisewd an encyclopedia of moves to enable a smaller frail person to be able to defend himself against bigger opponents, something the japanese never encounted because they had never seen people bigger than them back in the days. its considered a totaly new art now, if it wernt it would still be called jiu jitsu, not gracie jiu jitsu.

  • We all know that they are great fighters but hold on, This is an old Japanese sport, nothing invented today, they just added their style to enrich this sport. People used to do Jiu Jitsu before Gracies and they will do it after Gracies too.

  • But the Gracies made JJ much more effective.

  • No. Bjj is very very different from JJJ. Even more so today than 15 years ago. Helio reinvented jiu jitsu, he didn't just "enrich" it

  • Much respect to gracie jiu jitsu. But the game has changed now to the point where bjj is a required skill when training mma. The glory days for the gracies were when fighters had little or no jiu jitsu skills. Now the best are the well rounded fighters. Again much respect because they are the pioneers of mma

  • The game has changed in terms of all the rules adopted, time limits and weight classes... if you fight a bigger and stronger opponent the only style that gives you a chance is Helio Gracie´s Jiu-Jitsu.

Look at Randy Couture against Brock Lesnar: Randy is a SUPERB athlete but he tried to play the mma game (wich he masters) against a much bigger, stronger and faster opponent; he tried to wreslte him and failed; he tried exchange blows and got knocked unconscious.

  • hell yeaa

  • 6:28 what a beast, GJJ forever

  • These guys own!

  • He doesnt have coliflower ear because he was barley hit ever.

  • No! He doesn't have them because he was very technical...

  • im suprised he dosent have coliflower ear

  • Don't be! Coliflower ears are developed when you don't use the right technical escape: In other words when you try to use brute strength most likely you'll get coliflower ears when trying to escape chokes.

  • Is he wearing his gi wrong?

  • this is a sick video

  • awesome video.

    quit arguing, losers.

  • me??

  • i'll choke you

  • Class.

  • 1:57

    Wow!

  • I'm gonna honor the late great Helio Gracie by going to train bjj in a half hour.

  • Once again they refer to maeda as a ju jitsu fighter, when he was a kodakan judoka. WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THAT.

  • Maeda was a jiu jitsu fighter. What you dont know is that as time progressed, he changed his style to judo. Had something to do with the Olympics, but I'm not sure. BJJ could have very well be known as Brazilian Judo, but that would've sucked lmao

  • Hello agallardo25. I have alot of respect for B.J.J. My research tells me that Maeda did not train in JU jitsu. Sumo westler and great prize fighter he was. Kodokan judo was not olimpic sport till latter. What I do know is that Maeda exported kodokan to brazil which sporned B.J.J. He probably chose Kodokan becuase it beat all the major ju jistu schools in the contempory contest maches.

P.S If you what to be taken seriously dont use abreviations like lmao

  • Ok, pchatingliberal, my comment came out wrong. Maeda trained in both jiu jitsu and kodokan judo, which was formed by Jigoro Kano. Maeda was one of his students. Because of Maeda's many challenge matches, he went against strict K. Judo rules. This may be why Maeda insisted on calling his style jiu jitsu and not judo. He also took out ineffective moves from judo and integrated effective moves from jiu jitsu into his fighting regimine to effectively defeat his opponents. I dont know where you got

  • This is also incorrect. Maeda was a student of Judo. Not Jujustsu...but Judo. Back then Judo and Jujutsu were still interchangeable terms. Infact...Judo was often referred to as Kano Ryu Jujutsu.

  • that is actually and undifined and very debated topic as whether it is jiu jitsu or judo, we talk about it alot in class, it is unconfirmed

  • sumo wrestling from, and yes, Kodokan Judo was introduced as an Olympic sport later, much later. I mentioned it because Kano took out TOO MANY dangerous techniques from Judo to make it more socially "acceptable" and more aesthetically pleasing by using throws and less emphasis on effective ground grappling. This is why Maeda mixed in many jiu jitsu techniques and refered to his style as jj.

P.S If you want anyone to take YOU seriously, learn to spell Olympic's with a "y" not an "I" as you did.

  • No he didn't. Kano removed the more "dangerous" techniques because they could not be pressure tested like the "safe" techniques. This is why Judo annihilated the other Jujutsu schools practicing those "deadly" techniques during the initial formation of Judo. Social issues had nothing to do with it.

  • Comment removed

  • do you really think maeda doesnt know jiu jitsu also

  • howcome Rickson Gracie dosnt compete in MMA anymore??? since he is the best of the Gracies

  • Ever since Ricksons son, Rockson died, he has never stepped into the ring again. He will be giving a seminar in Nashville, Tn. sometime in March, 1st time in America in over 8 years, probably the last. I plan to attend, I see it as a once in a lifetime opportunity. He has a record of over 600 and no losses. A true champion!
