Driving a 2006 GTO myself, fantastic car... and to clear up for anyone who doesn't know. The spedo has an option where it can switch from Km/h to Mp/h... can go much faster than 200km trust me, also must have the overspeed warning set to 200, thats why the screen changed at 200

@hoookiutne the car was imported to the U.S. from Australia. It was not made in America, although the drivetrain is American (GM V8 and Borg Warner transmission. Same drivetrain as a corvette).  Its called a Holden Monaro over there, and it is a Chevy Lumina SS in South Africa. Vauxhall Monaro in Europe (all of thebeing GM companies in their countries). The MPH/KPH option was on all of them if I am not mistaken.

@eltigi GTO has a DIGITAL digital display. This means that the speedometer needle can be set to show either miles per hour or kilometers per hour with the push of a button. For example, if I'm doing 62mph, I can press KPH and the needle will jump to 100 right then and there.

But the aero isn't what is holding the cars back, its the lack of power to push THROUGH the aero. That's why I wouldn't call it a "wall." What I'm going off of is a 1997 cobra I traded in for my GTO and bone stock the cobra would hit 75 at redline in 2nd gear and the goat has much longer legs but it does have a lower redline then the cobra. That's why the Veyron need 1001HP to get to 250mph. :)

GTO's can do 200, just not in stock form. Forced Induction along with many other mods will allow it. They don't hit an aerodynamic wall at 185. They just need more power to overcome the obvious drag at those speeds. Once you get up around 150 or so, it starts to become difficult to get more speed from just adding a few hp. The veyron needs 1000hp simply because driving at 250 is like driving through pudding, the resistance is ridiculous compared to even 225.

@hbplaya My stock 2005 M6 (six speed) GTO with the factory 3.46 rear gears, did 155 mph in 5th gear, in Wyoming last year. The limiter is set for 165 MPH; I know this because on four jackstands, that is what the drivetrain tops out at, in 6th gear. The cars should make 175, without the limiter, in stock condition. Those boasting 200 MPH, are bulls***ters, unless the car is heavily modified.

The most you might get out of it is 185mph.

There is a LOT of physics involved and it's not as simple as you think.

On top of power, you need the right final gear ratio, suspension, and most importantly, tires.

You can try it all you want (if you take out off limiter) but you will fail each time as hundreds of others including myself have tried and failed.

At 107km/h I was ALMOST at redline and had to shift into 3rd gear. 107km=66mi so if I took it all the way up to reline, it would have been just at the 70mph mark while you are claiming 80mph... sorry but that is not true.

Go test it, get a video, and prove me wrong.
