@kailabreece ??Isn't everyone allowed to watch youtube and reply/repsond/write something on their mind from it? Don't censor peoples thoughts. We can all watch videos and write comments down. Why wouldn't you just write you don't agree? It's okay to not agree.
@kostaskurelias Of course people can comment. I didnt censor you... nor did I state I disagreed. I only asked why you would make fun of it being a bad topic when you clearly looked for it? I actually agree too, it is a caveman issue... for some, others have a hard time entering the 21st century.
I think gender roles are useful, but we should NEVER be limited to them. In my honest opinion, I think it would be a HUGE disadvantage for the males in my family to do the work the females do and vice versa. But that does not mean that we can't do them. In fact, the females in my family often do MORE and harder work then the males. In fact it seems to me that women do more and harder work than men do. They work also, and they clean cook and take care of kids. Men just work, usually.
Ah gender roles, something that affects me. I work in an elementary school and I am seen as "rare" or "special". True I am much better then most of the people working in the school, but that is not why people single me out, it is because I am a guy. I believe gender roles are societal. It all depends on the individual, regardless of their gender.....or hair color.
Gender roles are customs that evolve depending on the advantages or disadvantages to a social group of adopting them. Economic pressures being one such factor. However gender roles are not purely conventional. They must conform around biological differences. I think that it a cultural difference in male and female behaviour is inevitable given the different sexual prerogatives of both. In the same way gender responds to economic factors it must also take into account the economics of mating.
Superb video; I am glad you resist the reductionist, controversial but very popular Evolutionary Psychology approach. I agree that gender roles are socially constructed; such explicit parts are open to contestation, alteration and reinforcement. They are inherently products of human self-awareness and our existential capacity to collectively and individually define our identities. [con]
I also share your discomfort with the term metrosexual. Traditional gender roles need readapting and even contesting to fit contemporary social needs, but the metrosexual seems to be an expensive lifestyle fad rather than a radical critique. It does not seem to challenge, but merely creates a harmless pseudo-alternative. In my opinion it is a commercially defined stereotype. [fin]
The only thing I have against gender roles is that people think that they are right. I think that gender roles emerge from the fact certain biological traits are connected to gender. I'm not saying "act like a man", I am saying, "if you act like a man, then this could be why". A lot of things associated with genders are not necessarily biological though, but some, like behaviors exaggerated by testosterone is.
gender roles such a cave man topic

I think that industrialization is closing the differences in gender roles and I think this will lower discrimination.
