  • amazing band!!

  • The update allows practice mode to be adjuster manually.

  • @GodSugna good to know. I haven't updated the game yet so I'll give it a shot and update the review as needed.

  • Nice review. I may buy Rocksmith on computer when it comes out.

  • By far the best review of both games on the internet for rb3 pro mode vs. rocksmith, and I've read a lot of them. I have the fender squier for RB3, and am just learning. I think I'll pick up rocksmith to learn even more songs and more basic fundamentals. Thank you for your great opinion and comments.

  • I believe that games like rockband won't die because Rockband is all about making believe that you're a great rockstar(except Guitar Pro mode) and Rocksmith is all about playing for real. They are different, and I hope that they doesn't stop making more Rockbands, as well as more Rocksmiths.

  • Nice reviews! I have both games (RS and RB3) and the fender squire pro, For Rock Smith you complained about tab format not being used, check out the option to invert the string order it makes it look a lot more like tabs. also for squire pro owners who have issue with the high strings not picking up move the pickup on that side closer to the strings. also while it causes a few problems you can play with out the mute and hear your self play in rb3. I hope the developers listen to your ideas!

  • Yes, save and share performances - this is absolutely missing as well!

  • More control for all the practice modes, you said it all again, great review - very useful!

  • I have both games, but I don't have the Squire. I have the You Rock Guitar YRG-1000 for RB3. That guitar will allow you to hear yourself and does all the stuff with Pro Mode and is quite a bit cheaper than the Squire. What is interesting is that both games pick different problems in your technique. I honestly lean more toward RB3 with the YR Guitar, because I can hear myself and it picked up my weak index finger issues and has way more DLC. Plus, you can play pro with friends over.

  • @dcindc74 thats cool. I've never had a chance to play the You Rock. You should make a video of yourself playing to RB3

  • @roseofjerichoband so after a beginner become a great guitar play rocksmith is it possible for the player make his or her own song and play it

  • well at least you think that rocksmith has more technices and better learning guitar

  • rocksmith is way better

  • excellent review. i myself want to learn and was torn between the two, but now it is clear which one i should go with.....both rockband and rocksmith.

  • I haven't bought Rocksmith yet, but I'm planning on it. My main concern is the song selection and whether or not it keeps doing DLC (so far those are the best songs for the game IMO). To me, both Rocksmith and RB3 are glorified tabs. I've got about 4 years of experience under my belt (2 with a teacher) so I don't think either game has things to teach me (unless they have pinch harmonic trainers in Rocksmith). From that PoV I find RB3 better, but will still give Rocksmith a try.

  • Matt, your reviews of Rock Band 3 Squire and this are simply phenomenal, so helpful. When I I got the Squire, it was a great boom to my playing (went to practicing with it about 4 hours a day!). Rocksmith is great for hearing what you are doing and of course techniques like muting, bending, etc, but I think the RB3 squire is still amazing and useful for practicing finger work (the fret detection is so rock solid). So I think if one can afford it, having both is great (unfort. Squire is unavail).

  • @aselledb8 Hey thanks very much. I agree if you are a real guitar/rhythm game junkie (like me) then both games are definitely worth having.

  • I thought your review was very professionally done. I was able to hear a great deal of issues that may come up once I buy it. I want to wait until I finish this semester of classes, because once I buy it that it. And Physics needs a lot of attention. Thanks again for the review.

  • After seeing this review I might just wait a little bit for the PC version of Rocksmith to come out or for Rocksmith 2 to be released. If I get the PC version then it can be modded to get rid of the major annoyances like the lives in practice mode.

Major downside is that the release date for the PC version isn't until later this year. =(

    Thank you for the insight!

  • There is something that I need to say that is not in the video. I noticed a lot of reviewers finish their Rocksmith review with something like "its finally much more gratifying to be playing for real rather than mashing plastic buttons." Implying that Rocksmith is more fun than Rock Band/Guitar Hero because its "real". I love playing real guitar; I also love mashing plastic buttons. There is nothing wrong with liking plastic guitar more than the real one, and one is not less than the other.

  • @roseofjerichoband I totally agree- there's no law that everyone that enjoys music needs to play it

  • @toymasheenSH yeah but rocksmith dosent have any challenging songs besides hangar 18.they need some shawn lane, buckethead, steve vai, jason becker, joe satriani, etc also the calibration on it is bad for me

  • @Bubfield405 that has nothing to do with what I said.

  • @toymasheenSH werent you tryin to say that rocksmith is better than rb3 or not

  • @Bubfield405 It's better at teaching guitar than RB3

  • @toymasheenSH yeah but i wish it had some hard dlc

  • @Bubfield405 Nobody has completely mastered Hangar 18

  • @toymasheenSH how do you know?

  • When you miss a note in Rocksmith you know it. Because you hear a wrong note.

The RB3 Pro interface is built around a video game, as a guitarist I don't understand how you can say it's a better interface for the intended use of teaching people guitar.

  • @toymasheenSH *watches conclusion* I see you agree with me lol

  • @toymasheenSH Yeah - i was a little confused with your other comment but its all good. thanks for checking out the review!

  • Just FYI, fender squire isn't in production anymore, so you don't really have to mention it in the review, since it is really hard to get your hands on it... Trust me, been trying for the past few months to get my hands on one :/

  • @TheShadowstreak well i still wanted to mention rb3 cause i do get a lot of questions about it. plus theres a lot of people that still using the mustang, but i probably should have mentioned in the review that it is basically impossible to get one of the squiers today.

  • @TheShadowstreak I have a fender squire guitar/controller for sale if your still interested.Guitar is like new still in box includes xbox 360 midi pro adaptor, rockband 3 game on 360,pick,strap and cord.If your still interested message me Ill give you a price.

  • I'd like to try this but keep hoping RB4 will have something similar and be able to use all their Pro Guitar DLC (which I have a decent investment in). Haven't played RB3 since getting a shiny new ESP Horizon NT-II but would love to come back to Rock Band. For now it's back to burning through 800 cat's lives trying to get the Iron Man solo.

  • @kanshou thats not a bad plan. I would not be surprised at all to learn the RB4 has the same technology as rocksmith for pro guitar.

  • @roseofjerichoband hey another question is it possible to download your own rock music and put it on rocksmith because l think it would be awesome to play guilty gear x2 reload soundtrack like noontide, suck a sage, holy order and some other plus it would be awesome to japan songs like yui-rolling star, granrodeo-trance (a very hardcore song and personally my favorite) and some other some jp rock song from animes opening

  • @TheOutkast4ever No, there is no way to upload your own music into rocksmith. I agree it would be fun to create your own playlist, but unfortunately it takes a lot of work to get a song into the game.

  • @roseofjerichoband last question well this game help us develop our own skill as we learn guitar so we able to create your own type of music because l haven't seen nobody on you tube post a video saying l'm a beginning at playing with a guitar then play the guitar so it'll show the viewer oh he or she can't play the guitar then after months he or she posted another video showing how much they learn from RS then play the guitar with a amp but without playing RS.

  • @TheOutkast4ever There are three things you need to learn to play an instrument:

    1. Talent

    2. Practice

    3. A true desire to play the instrument

While you can kind of substitute one for another (e.g. practice a lot to make up for talent), you still have to have all three. Rocksmith, good equipment, or the best teacher in the world won't make up for the dedication you have to have to learn the instrument. Can Rocksmith teach you? Yes. Is it the only thing you will need? No.

  • @TheOutkast4ever If someone posted a video that showed significant progress after playing Rocksmith, then I would attribute their increase in skill to their hardwork practicing and their dedication to the instrument more than I would attribute it to Rocksmith. Rocksmith is a decent learning tool, but i don't think it is significantly better than the guy practicing by playing along to his favorite songs in his bedroom.

  • @roseofjerichoband well l really want to learn how to play the guitar so bad l mean l see peoples playing my favorite song that l wanna play so badly plus it would be cool if l can create my own song so l just want to say l'm a beginner and I WILL LEARN HOW TO PLAY GUITAR BECAUSE I AM HEADSTRONG AND I WON'T QUIT so l hope l can learn everything l can from playing RS/Guitar and if l learn all l can and if that still not enough then l'll do anything and everything l can to learn

  • @TheOutkast4ever Then one day l can posted my own video and show the world what l'm made of but anyway l'll add you so l can talk to you later on

  • @TheOutkast4ever Sounds like you have the desire to learn so I would definitely say go for it. Good luck!

  • @roseofjerichoband thank you :) and on february l'm getting epiphone wilshire pro limited edition because l heard some demo of it on you tube and feedback from guitar center customers and its a great guitar. Then on march l'll get rocksmith!!!!!

  • I would pay $20 for the song "Buried Cold" for pro-guitar.

I know that its not up to you or anything I'm just saying

  • @carlopez3 man, i'd pay to get one of our songs into rocksmith cause i think it would be awesome. then instead of rehearsals, the band can just get together and play rock band and rocksmith. thanks for being a fan!

  • Excelent review, I actually bought the squier and watched all the reviews about the squier strat maybe soon I won't need the video game anymore to learn something with just for myself. I play some musics at acoustic guitar, but I know nothing about techniques and other things

  • I decided to buy RB3, but in the end if you REALLY want to play guitar you should learn by yourself and use this game at the side. It's just not the same imo. It also depends on what your goals are. Still rocksmith seems better cause you can plug in your guitar, even though the RB3 interface is much better. I sold RB3+squier guitar, cause the quality just sucks. Used the money to buy a monster SG shaped greg bennett tr2 + bugera V5 amp (2nd hand) instead.

    Nice review :)

  • @komani86 Thanks! And I agree with you completely. RB3 or Rocksmith are just stepping stones. For many people, they may never get beyond the video game, but for some, like yourself, you reach the point where the video game can't do anything more for you and you move on to better equipment.

  • Even after watching your review I still prefer RB3, due to interface which I think would build up the muscle memory better from scratch. and this is because Harmonix is experienced w/ game interfacing...Rocksmith was made by guitarists not gamers and that the learning curve for Rocksmith starts higher than the curve for RB3...As you said even w/ both of these tools to get proficient at the guitar you'll need a teacher.

  • @arcroy7 This is my opinion also. I have 0 guitar ability including an inability to read/write music. RB3 is for the noobiest of the noob. Rocksmith is for people who have an actual interest in playing guitar.

Rock Band is to awaken peoples interest in music and the crafting of songs.

  • @arcroy7 Yeah - I think it will be a while before a game is better than a real teacher.

  • Nice review.

I do love the music from your band. Maby you can also be featured on Rocksmith as DLC. I'd certainly buy a couple of RoJ songs.

  • @MathiasMueller1 Hey thanks! We would love to get a couple songs on Rocksmith. Maybe someday.
