@MrFlo306 You only pass out from helium if there's not enough oxygen mixed in it. Normal air is 70-75% nitrogen and 20-25% oxygen. Helium is used to replace the nitrogen because at those depths breathing normal air results in nitrogen narcosis, a condition similar to an overdose of laughing gas.
@phillymacster They are trying to avoid nitrogen narcosis, which makes you act like your drunk at depths below where recreational divers usually dive. Some people feel it at depths as shallow as 80 feet, or so I've been told. They can't replace the nitrogen in the air with Oxygen, because pure O2 is toxic at great depths, so they replace it with helium.

@pudicus2 Past 66m Oxygen turns toxic, so you use a mix of helium, nitrogen and oxygen in order to dive deeper, commonly known as Trimix.

As long as their is a balance of nitrogen, oxygen and other chemicals in their tanks, so they are fine.
