To make instant cake,get a cereal bowl put in it 1Tbs of oil,1 cup of cake mix(doesn't matter what kind), and 1 egg, mix with fork and itll get heavy, add some water(depends on you of how much you add)put in microwave for 2min or till its puffed up and done :)

So it would be difficult if not impossible for this material to kill someone who ingested it. At worst, it would be vomited back up and cause diarrahea since it is not recognized by the body or absorbed and thus excreted unchanged. An interesting comparison here would be to the non-absorbable fat substitute Olestra (in Lays Wow! potato chips) which you may know has been associated with diarrhea.

Its a superabsorbent polymer and will turn liquids into a gel. It is the same polymer found in diapers and other related products.

Here is info from the MSDS for Sodium Polyacrylate:

First it has an oral LD-50 (dose at which 50% of mice die) of 5 grams/Kilogram (5 grams/2.2 lbs). This is very high. Thus, a 100lb Human would have to ingest ~250 grams or 5.5 lbs for it to be lethal. There are lots of things, food even, that if you eat 5 lbs would kill you. This be like eating 7 boxes of cereal. Try it if you think this is likely. So a 50 lb child would have to eat 2.75lb. This would be quite unlikely.

Ingestion: Causes irritation to the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Ingestion: Although not a likely route of entry, tests have shown that sodium polyacrylate is non-toxic if ingested. However, as in any instance of non-food consumption, seek medical attention in the event of any adverse symptoms.

Health Rating= 1 (slight, 4= severe). The same as sodium chloride (table salt).

uuhh looks more like polystyrene. I wouldnt want my child eating it. I work in the mining industry and if that is non toxic i will eat my hat.

Extruded polystrene (PS) has a health rating of 0 (on a scale of 0-4) according to the MSDS-Owens Corning. Polymers are not absorbed by the body.

The issue with polymers are the amount of residual monomer (styrene). Everyone chews on plastics (straws, cups, pens, etc.) drinks from plastics often so if you have a problem with PS/styrene (health rating=2, moderate) you would want to change these habits, I guess. High volume chemicals are closely regulated because we are exposed to them more.

Thank you for ur advice, however I doubt small children will obtain this material labeled as instant cake or be watching my video while they use it or be fooled into believing it's edible. The package they obtain will be clearly labeled with all needed precautions. They are also likely to have parental supervision. In a worst case scenario however, the material is safe and non-toxic because it is a polymer that will not be absorbed by the body and be excreted unchanged.
