I haven't been here in a while, I'm glad I came back, this was a good review! There are so many great classics out there, but what do you read that has been published more recently? Just curious.
@BachBeethovenBeatles Thanks! Glad you like it. You know, I try not to create reading lists, just because then I always feel like I'm catching up. I don't do it intentionally, but as I browse I usually end up with "classics" that were published within the last 100 years. Older than that and the language becomes too overbearing to me. Anything within the last 5 years I usually stay away from though, just because I don't feel like it's worth the risk wasting my time with something unproven.
@gnites88 Hell yeah, I actually bought Downtown Owl with my Barnes and Noble gift card just a few weeks ago. That guy is dope. I don't read too many novels anymore, I am obsessed with non fiction esp. when dealing with musicology, music history, and such. But, even when I do read a novel they are only semi-fictional...
@gnites88 I am very fond of Rick Bragg's All over but the shoutin' and Sandra Cisneros' The House on Mango street...Those are both published sometime in the 90's so I guess they aren't terribly "new" but pretty recent finds for me.
You have to review the book House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It's similar to Infinite Jest and has some of the most complex and intricate plot structure of any book I've ever read
@hoppus222 I read it about a year ago and I enjoyed it. I might actually review that this Saturday now that you mention it, as a stop gap -- I didn't get to read a new book this week in the whole process of moving.
I've had a greater reading experience since I started watching these book reviews, and I feel like your videos have made this year probably more tolerable than it would have, because of all the sweet books you've recommended. I hope California greets you well, wear a flower in your hair, and I'll see you when you upload a new video. =D
@JohnHill91 hahaha thanks a lot dude. Your input and everything is what keeps this from being a total bore-fest on my end, too. Glad you're digging the books -- have an awesome 2012.
Dude, have a good move! I enjoyed the review as always, Dean. So much of the fiction world is bloated w/ pretense and 'I'm bigger & smarter than yooou.' You have none of that. That's what I love about the reviews. Keep up the reviews, bro.
Nice last review. I like how your videos have seemed to get away from the needledrop esc style as far as the editing goes. Looking forward to all the Saturday sitdowns in 2012 from California. That sure is a nice wall though...
@MouseEars32 Yeah, I guess you have to start out looking up your inspirations and models, but overtime my own flow and feel has just slowly creeped in as I've gotten more comfortable. I appreciate you noticing. :) and I know, I'm gonna miss Ol' Blue Wall, lol
Hey, when you finally settle in Cali, you should check out All The King's Men by Robert Penn Warren, it's on of my all time favorite novels. It has very heavy political themes, mostly right wing, so I hope you're okay with that. I don't recall you stating any political stance before. :P
@gnites88 Yes it is fiction, it's only non-fiction tie ins are the connections and similarities between the main character and an actual Mississippi politician Huey Long. But that's pretty much it.
@gnites88 what camera do you use

@BachBeethovenBeatles If I had to though, I suppose I'd say I'm a decent Chuck Klosterman fan. Maybe a little Stephen King.

I think for the end of 2012 you should make a list of your top favorite books you read that year. I think that'd be cool

@ToxicMayo9 I will. That will give me a full year of books to look back on. Sounds like a plan.

@gnites88 Sharpest wit in literature. Some dude was wondering if any author had wit comparable to Vonnegut.
